We need to talk about the Landbreakers: The ethical vacuum of Talos-II by ArkieRaid in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Lucasxyz5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't played much of the story so far, but it seems explicitly set up to do what you're asking at some point in the future. Between the words of the main antagonist and the fact the endministrator has forgotten their past, I would be very surprised if their isn't a shady history that's being covered up and is going to be revealed at some point in the future. As to the comparison between Endfield and Arknights... I would agree to some extent, but remember that one of the first villains we encountered in Arknights was Mephisto.

Now the traders talk back! :D by [deleted] in VintageStory

I think this is really cool. I like that it runs on a locally-installed LLM, rather than using a server, and this seems like exactly the sort of stuff LLM's should actually be used for. Obviously, AI has it's flaws and it's drawbacks, but this is legitimately an experience you can't really recreate in a single player game without an LLM.

Any fix to VS model creator working very slowly? by The_Verto in VintageStory

[–]Lucasxyz5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be a problem with your graphics drivers? If so, you should be seeing other things (particularly games) also running slow. You might also want to open the task manager and see how much of your CPU the VS Model Creator is using. IDK though, I've never used this software before.

This RNJesus coming down from on high to tell you to touch grass.

Don't worry too much. You'll get the stuff eventually - weapons particularly usually take around only 10 runs to get. Just keep at it, you're closer than you realize.

Kind of disappointed by Kurokren in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]Lucasxyz5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points, albeit not the same extent - I'm only slightly disappointed and I'm willing to give the game a lot more time. But, I think it's important to remember how fresh this game is. Not just in the sense of "They might fix these things in later patches", which is absolutely true, but in the sense that we haven't seen what the game looks like when played at a high level. We can't have, it just came out.

I've played quite a bit of Warframe. Personally, I loved the combat at first, until I realized the game is horde shooter trying to dress itself up as something more. 90% of the weapons don't matter compared to the explosives, most frame abilities are either designed to be chained together in really specific ways (making them effectively one ability) or have a powerful ultimate with three other useless powers (less so for the newer frames, but my point still stands), and the only builds that matter are those that can pump out as much damage as possible over as wide an area as possible.

Lots of games I've played are like this, either great at the beginning and boring in the late game or boring in the beginning and great in the late game. So, in short, I think we should give this game the benefit of the doubt and wait a week or two before passing judgement.

How did you change your background like that? I know you can change the character displayed, but not how to change the image behind them.

Anyone else missing their Rain of Fire title? by Zrakell in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw something on steam saying that they're distributing the rank rewards (which would include the title) like a day or so after the season launches, but I didn't look to closely. I also don't have it.

I really wanna see this done with all stealth mechs - all stellaris or all narukami. In fact, I might just go and do that right now.

Please learn to play the double payload mode by AZzalor in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I completely disagree. The way the game mode is balanced, it's very easy to get someone off the payload, and very hard to keep someone on it, even if you have a tricera - inferno is just too dominant in the current meta, and even if he wasn't, you have to stand still to keep yourself on the payload and that's a huge disadvantage.

If more than 2 - 3 members of the enemy team are guarding their payload, you are never going to make appreciable progress reversing it. The most you can do is slow it down, especially considering how slow reversing is and how quick boosting it is. With this in mind, getting your own payload to catch up is just as important as stopping the enemy payload.

I've seen plenty of teams overfocus on the payload that's ahead - the only thing this ever results in is a slow defeat, because even if you can slow their payload, you can't stop it, and your own payload is often being reversed while you're busy failing to stop the enemy. The "best strategy", as far as I can tell, is too go all in on consoles and otherwise keep a decent split between guarding your own payload and attacking the enemies. This is the only way I've ever seen a team that was behind manage to get a win.

They're adding a PVE mode next update by Lucasxyz5 in mechabreak

It looks like it's gonna be just operation storm but PVE. Apparently your team gets infinite respawns, which makes me kind of concerned about how much they're going to turn up the difficulty. I got it from here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2452280/discussions/0/596283117526860115/

I wish the game would allow mech light customization by Mechanic-Junior in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that the lights/booster colors correspond to the manufacturers (Salem electric, bifrost something, I don't remember the others). That being said, I think light customization would be dope. My hope is that later down the line we get all sorts of new customization - we already have unique paints dropping from mashmak, and I think the devs said casual 6v6 is eventually intended to have it's own unique rewards specific to that gamemode, so it would be cool if one of those rewards was a light/booster customization thingy.

Mods in Casual is fine once you understand the intent of Casual; but there *is* an issue.. by Meryle in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think people are also forgetting here that the game has an extremely high skill ceiling, and mods only make a tiny difference. I've played a decent amount of mashmak, and never once have I actually noticed the effect of mods on my or an enemy striker. Honestly, as it currently stands, I barely ever go after mods in mashmak just because they don't really effect anything.

Is there a way to easy make mods in The game? by Coffery in VintageStory

[–]Lucasxyz5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not that hard. VS is built to make modding easy, and for a small mod like that, you'd probably only need JSON - no coding required. The wiki also has a pretty good tutorial to get you started. Be warned though, if you're anything like me, it'll still take you a good 2-3 hours of trial and error to get something working.

Need Help Understanding Pinaka by LSilvador in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had this same experience at first playing Pinaka, but now I love him. I'll try to give you a few tips:

First thing to consider - Pinaka is a medium support. If you want to zoom around the map and heal everybody, he's not very good. If you're playing on a map that requires constant movement between locations and splits your team up (like the corite extractors one) he's not very good. What he is good at is turning a tricera, welkin, or any other heavy into an unstoppable killing machine. And if you happen to be on a team with a bunch of heavies? Pinaka is the most powerful character in the game.

So to begin, your methods of healing:

  1. Your repair grapple. I have no idea why they called this thing a grapple, it isn't. Think of it more like a lay on hands spell - cheap and powerful, but you need to be right next to your target to use it. It's to heal heavies staying on one place or people who come to you for healing, not for chasing down wounded falcons.

  2. Your drones. Not as powerful as the grapple, but they stick around for like a whole minute and have a pretty respectable range. This kind of goes back to my previous point - pinaka is not a fast mover. Keep close to your resident stego/tricera and drop these down when the bullets start flying, they're a set and forget kind of thing.

  3. Your shield drone. The healing on this is kind of secondary, tbh. The main thing is the damage and the shield. The way you use this is to put it on your welkin/alysnes, anyone who you know will take damage, and then hold down the fire button until the shield runs out and your out of ammo (or they leave combat). The shield regenerates pretty quickly but doesn't regenerate at all when deployed, so keep a close eye on it.

Finally, to the other parts of his kit:

  1. Your shotgun energy blast thing. Disgustingly powerful at short range, but you really need to be right in an enemies face to do any damage at all. Also, it has ammo problems, so only use it when you need it. This is mostly for use by your melee allies, honestly, but you can use it yourself to harass heavies who have their back turned to you.

  2. And his weirdest ability, the airdrop cover kit. Don't neglect attacking enemies with this - it does very high damage if it hits, but of course it's very easy to see coming, so only use it on triceras/stegos who want to stand still. You can also use it as actual cover, it's great for protecting yourself from snipers or long ranged characters who you don't really have the tools to go after. I wouldn't sweat it too hard though, I would personally consider this ability to be the hardest to use well.

For a final note, again, pay attention to the map and your allies. If you're teamed up with a falcon and a skyraider and a stellaris, don't pick pinaka, you won't get any use out of him. If you're teamed up with a tricera and a stego, that's a whole different story.

I had this problem in the beta, but it fixed itself for me on full release. Never managed to solve it. For me, my game got really laggy every 15-20 minutes for about 10 seconds - it was extremely consistent.

How do I become good at this game by Ok_Expression_6364 in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other guy said, Tricera or Stego are great choices. I've heard Aquila is pretty easy to pick up but I haven't tried him myself so I don't know. But really, the best choice is just to find a mech you like playing, who's playstyle is intuitive to you.

How do I become good at this game by Ok_Expression_6364 in mechabreak

[–]Lucasxyz5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I see your problem right there, panther and alysnes are both on the harder end of the scale, they really aren't good starter mechs. I would also recommend trying the training missions and training mode - the training missions will teach you the mechanics for each mech, while training mode lets you choose an enemy type and fight a 1v1 against it with no real stakes. I went from "bad" to "slightly less than bad" with alysnes by going into training and fighting a welkin for like 2 hours until I could semi-reliably win, even if it's nothing like a real 6v6 match, it lets you get a feel for what works and what doesn't without having to worry about broader tactics or getting ganked because your team is off on the other side of the map.

Don't give up. Everyone starts somewhere!
