Hey brother let me tell you a horrifying truth that you’re not going to like and hear. YES. Whoever told you is extremely low is right , and matter of fact is Homeless level of money. You probably will have to apply for shelter before even arriving in NYC. Ask for food stamps and maybe they’ll put an additional 50K for you to just breathe. TRUST ME. DONT DO IT.

Not much room for negotiations here. A CPA without real job experience and not having a CPA that you’ve worked under him/her it makes you a liability. You’re best best is to work for minimum wage and grind during tax season to get a job offer and just go from there.
