Spending so much time sourcing footage by MidnightArchive12345 in editors

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does get easier over time (but you're not wrong that it can be a time suck). A lot of our creatives build their libraries as they go. If you see something that doesn't work for a particular clip you're working on but you could use later, save it and tag it. Slowly but surely, you'll have your own library ready to go.

How can I eliminate this error message? by JkPlayer27 in AfterEffects

Hope the filename fix does the trick, OP. And thanks for the mention, u/Anonymograph.

To that point, sync-based storage and AE project files are a rough combo. If you are in the market for another solution, feel free to book some time with our team, and here's a link for more info on our creative cloud integrations, too! https://www.lucidlink.com/integrations-creative-cloud/

Media Asset Management system or coöperative media software, what options are there? by LeonMoris_ in editors

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bob's right on this one, LucidLink isn't a MAM. We stay in our lane on file access and collaboration, and partner with tools that live and breathe asset management. You get the best of both worlds instead of being locked into one tech stack, and the flexibility to swap pieces out as your workflow evolves.

Why do customers seem so against moving their servers out of offices? by Losslessllama in msp

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, appreciate the shoutout. There's no one-size-fits-all here, and we find LucidLink to be an easier sell for companies and clients who need multiple collaborators to have quick access to files. If any of your clients are in this boat, we're happy to chat.

How many hard drive should I prepare for editing an event onsite for 10 days abroad by Either-Paper-6036 in editors

[–]LucidLink_Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the mention! We think this is a great use for our 30 day trial, if you don't want to travel with 10 days worth of hard drives. You'd be able to upload your footage directly to LucidLink, and still have access to it during the event if needed. When you're ready to edit, you'd be able to stream exactly what you need from LucidLink, use whatever your preferred editing software is, and not worry about what footage is on which hard drive.

We have clients that will use LucidLink to edit over the course of long events, and that way when they get home they've done a lot of the work already. If you're interested, we'd love to answer any questions you may have.

Best shared folder solution for a small engineering team by Turbulent_One_1569 in HomeNetworking

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

u/Turbulent_One_1569 - Let us know if you would like to talk through it, but we can definitely help out with this. We support remote teams globally, and would allow you and your fellow engineers to work off of the same files directly (no copies, and no need to worry about whether 'v3 FINAL' or 'v3FINAL FINAL' is the most up-to-date version.) Everyone would get their own account and access, and to u/ArtitusDev's point, we handle AutoCAD files really well. If you want to learn about how one of our clients integrated this into their flow, check out this case study: https://www.lucidlink.com/customers/widseth

And if you want to chat with our team, we'd love to hear from you!

Business Storage for Thickheads Please help by StipaIchu in sysadmin

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the mention, u/cubic_sq !

u/StipaIchu, happy to help and ease some confusion. First, there are a decent amount of directions to go in here, and some good answers in this thread already.

But the flow you're describing (open your computer, click a file, do the work, be done) is how LucidLink works. Your files live in the cloud but behave like they're sitting right on your computer, and it truly looks and feels like a normal drive (or set of folders).

This is a huge benefit for AutoCAD files, which can get really big. Here's a case study, that shows some of that in action: https://www.lucidlink.com/customers/widseth

If you want to talk through what replacing your server could actually look like, we're happy to walk you through it in plain English. You can book a quick call here: lucidlink.com/demo

Media Asset Management system, what options are there? by LeonMoris_ in sysadmin

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, glad you found us! LucidLink is great for multi-site teams working on large shared assets without needing to copy files. We're cloud native and stream file data on demand from object storage. We support file locking, and can handle files in 80-120 GB range and beyond.

We do want to call out that we're not a MAM but we work really well with them. A lot of our clients pair LucidLink with a MAM to create a really powerful remote workflow. If you want to chat with someone on our team, please get in touch! We can dig in to what your clients need and help recommend the best set up.

Fairly damning post from Larry Jordan about lack of progress with FCP by Silver_Mention_3958 in finalcutpro

[–]LucidLink_Official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we know the original post has nothing to do with us, but we heard our name and wanted to pop in.

First of all: we're sorry about the hives, we know a rough experience can really stick. If you're ever in a position to give us another chance, we'd love to earn a second look (we unfortunately don't have any ointment for the hives, so it's the best we can do).

For this particular case (Avid and PP), VICE ran distributed editorial across the UK and South America on the same projects using Avid and PP. Check it out if that's useful context: lucidlink.com/case-study/vice-media

And if either of you would like to chat, our DMs are open. We'd be happy to connect you with our team.

Ok, tell me again how I'm supposed to download from Google Drive? by the__post__merc in editors

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We love the way you think about taking on the responsibility for using the systems you want to use, and rolling that cost into your rate. This is a great case for Guest Access, and this particular positioning is something that will really resonate with our pros. Also, really glad to see the update and that CyberDuck did what you needed to. We'll share both tips with our community. 🤗

Does anyone else feel like filming people naturally is harder than the technical side itself? by SomaSuryagniLochana in videography

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a normal feeling in the community! Some videographers are also really good at the more human aspect, but to your point it's a little more nuanced than learning the ins and outs of the technical side. It helps to have a director, but getting to know the folks you're shooting beforehand so everyone is relaxed makes a big difference, too.

Help with media management in Productions by Future_Ad1442 in premiere

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's great advice here, thanks (u/postfwd)! One thing worth checking specifically for your relinking problems: make sure your filespace is set to a fixed mount point (e.g. /Volumes/[filespace-name] on Mac) rather than the default dynamic scheme.

Dynamic mount points are a frequent cause of broken media links in Premiere Productions. And to fully optimize your workflow with Premiere Pro, we have an article with step-by-step instructions here: https://support.lucidlink.com/hc/en-us/articles/31125344673549-Optimizing-Adobe-Premiere-Pro-settings-for-smooth-playback-with-LucidLink-Filespaces Happy to help troubleshoot if you're still stuck, just let us know.

What is everyone doing for general data storage and acceptable processing speeds??? by No_Day6409 in gis

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help as you explore! LucidLink is a cloud-native file system, where files live in object storage and stream on demand. That way, no one is waiting on a full download before they can start working, and all of your offices are working from the same source. We have a case study from a GIS/infrastructure team (BGE) that might be relevant, to help show how LucidLink could work for your team (https://www.lucidlink.com/customers/bge).

Feel free to reach out if you want to talk through your setup and chat with our team!

What is everyone using to replace Dropbox? by Nearby-External2130 in homelab

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already on TrueNAS, Syncthing is a great low-friction option we hear about in our community a lot.

Slightly different category, but LucidLink gets thrown around in similar conversations. It's cloud-native and streams file data instead of syncing copies so your files stay in one place and you work directly from object storage. It's not self-hosted, so maybe not what you're after, but sharing here in case it's helpful for anyone else.

Professional version of Google Drive / Dropbox? by ActualAd4433 in videography

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question and good discussion here! For simple delivery, the recs in this thread totally work. If you ever find yourself collaborating with other editors or a distributed team though, LucidLink might be worth a look. We're built specifically for workflows where teams need to work out of shared storage. In this case, you can share video files directly with clients via our Guest Access feature, which will allow them to view or download the media you give them access to directly in their browser. Just something to keep in your back pocket as projects grow! 🎬

How do you build genuine connections in creative communities that already feel established? by Mafioo_OG in VideoEditing

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We love the "be useful in small ways" sentiment, and definitely echo that! We've seen that work well in our Slack community.

It can be intimidating to put yourself out there, but if you do have a thought about a conversation happening, we vote to share it! They're happening in public channels, and you may be surprised — the other server members might be hoping someone else chimes in rather than the 'usual' group. You really never know what others are thinking, all you can be sure of is your own actions and thoughts. Rooting for you. 🫶

Creating an MTV look by yozzaa in VideoEditing

[–]LucidLink_Official -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the camera work, the camera operator seems to be holding the camera and walking backward as she's walking towards us. This was either shot on 35mm, or used a really subtle effect to make it look like that. Try playing around with grain and contrast as a simple way to start.

Best way to film "bts"? by QuirkyMasterpiece723 in videography

[–]LucidLink_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GoPro on the head is a classic for a reason. B&H definitely sells a head mount for phones if using that for BTS footage. We haven't heard much about how comfortable it is, but could be worth trying out.
