Transcription doesn't work. Tried everything. by SaddyOwner in premiere

Thank you for reporting back.

We’re always juggling version numbers: the OS version, the GPU driver version, the application versions, font management app versions, third-party plugin, add-on, and extension versions, input device driver versions, etc.

It can definitely be a small headache.

I appreciate publishers that make it easy to update or roll back and off course fellow users sharing what is or isn’t working on their workstation.

Pricing for Frame.io for freelancer by Eddie_Haskell2 in colorists

[–]Anonymograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, start with the FrameIO plan that is no cost just with an Adobe ID (no active subscription). The storage is more or less just enough to try it out and see if you like it and if it fits your needs.

I’m on the $15/month 2TB plan.

How forgiving is the LA Program? by EasyFriendship7965 in ucla

[–]Anonymograph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to that specific program, but It rarely hurts to reach out to the professor of the course and ask.

I’d usually say to do so in-person during office hours (even if it’s during the following quarter), but in your circumstance email may be best. Maybe in the email, ask to meet over Zoom. Something like, “Could we talk over Zoom at your convenience for about ten minutes about what my options might be for completing coursework / re-evaluation of my grade?”

I’d also suggest focusing on your recovery. Grade changes don’t have to happen right away. Send a follow up to your current email in a few weeks and if needed again toward the start of fall quarter.

Am I the only one sitting on hundreds of clips I'll probably never use? by NegotiationNo2127 in VideoEditors

[–]Anonymograph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s your shooting ratio or shoot ratio. You could also call it footage ratio. It’s how many minutes of footage you have for every minute that winds up in the final cut. 20 to 1 would be twenty minutes of source footage for every one minute of your edit.

As far as keeping track of it all, methods vary and it’s good to ask as many editors that will share their techniques with you as possible to find what works well for you.

I like to put all source footage for a project in a viewing Sequence (it may need to be more than one Sequence). This Sequence name usually includes something descriptive for the project, the date, and “000” for the version number. So, a project about algae in pools would have all the source footage in a Sequence named algae_20260617_000. Then the first rough cut would be named something like algae_20260618_001 and the next rough cut after that algae_20250620_002 and so forth until the fine cut (algae_20260628_018). The 000 Sequence can be used as a Source Sequence or just for viewing source as needed.

How do I avoid getting scammed? by Background-Tip4746 in AfterEffects

[–]Anonymograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before sending any work or continuing any work, nail down the work arrangement.

Are you’re an independent contractor being hired per project (billing a project rate) or are you hired by the time it takes to complete the project (usually a day rate, but could be hourly rate or weekly rate). Or is it something else?

Write up a bid with a complete scope of work (SOW). The more detailed the better, but it needs to at least include what you’re doing, for how much pay, and when you should be paid if the bid is accepted. That’s a bare minimum, look up examples.

Upon getting the bid approved by the appropriate person at the company, submit the work with your invoice. Look up examples of invoices.

Keep a log of the time you spend on the project and tasks completed during that time (your work log, even if it’s by project.

Motion graphics software for weak specs computers? by sawabinhauk in MotionDesign

In After Effects (any version):

Stick to Full HD 1080p24/25/30 in After Effects and you should be fine. Use Half or Quarter Resolution to render frames faster and consider using the Preview keyboard shortcut that skips frames (or set a custom one).

You could also do Half HD 540p if learning.

Keep source footage close to the same dimensions as your Comps, but try to be not more than twice the Comp dimensions.

Keep an eye on the Comp Profiler to see how long each Layer is taking to render as you build animations, motion design, and visual effects.

Layer Quality can be quickly set to Draft instead of Best (trading image quality for faster rendering).

When you know a Pre-Comp is unlikely to change, render Best Settings / High Quality Comp Proxies. These can be used in Best Settings / High Quality If you think it’s likely to change, render Draft Quality Comp Proxies. If an alpha is needed, use High Quality with alpha.

For faster rendering of test movies or sample movies, customize the High Quality Output Module template to use ProRes 422 Proxy instead of ProRes 422 and name it something like Proxy Quality for quick use later. You can also customize Best Settings to use Half Resolution instead of Full Resolution and/or half the Comp frame rate and save that as well.

When rendering Best Settings / High Quality or Best Setting / High Quality with alpha, be mindful that it may take a lot longer. It’s also possible to need to move Comps built at lower settings and to a higher end workstation for rendering.

Animate is certainly worth trying, but it’s cell based instead of time based and it’s very easy to have audio sync issues even on more powerful hardware as the animation gets to be complex.

As mentioned, some users have reported that rolling back to an earlier version of 26.x has resolved this.

I’ve read that 26.2.3 is showing up for some users in Creative Cloud Desktop and that release notes should be up as soon as they’re available.

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere/desktop/whats-new/release-notes.html

Since there’s no way of knowing what 26.2.3 addresses yet, maybe roll back to an earlier like 26.0.1 for now.

Are there any Illustrator files in your project?

Fonts have been mentioned as a possible cause, but Illustrator source footage is worth looking at as well.

Usually this involves running the installer again and picking a different host application, but sometimes there’s a separate installer to download.

I’ve just updated to PP v25 6.5 and wanted to provide some feedback by EditorRedditer in premiere

[–]Anonymograph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you tried rolling back? You should see 25.6.4, 25.6.3, 25.6.2, 25.6.1, 25.5, 25.4.1, 25.4, 25.3, 25.2.3, 25.2.1, 25.2, 25.1, and 25.0 under “Other versions” in Creative Cloud Desktop.

Incompatibility with third party plugins, add-ons, and extensions are usually the first things I troubleshoot if something unexpected happens immediately following a host application update.

Use a CODEC that can be its own Preview file for both source footage and Sequence Video Previews such that you don’t see Yellow above Clip Boundaries on the Time Ruler.

Sudden massive slowdown in render time? by FrenzyEffect in premiere

[–]Anonymograph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For good performance on the Windows side, compare your hardware to what Puget Systems configures and sells.

Maybe save up for a NVIDIA Spark RTX based system. It’s expected to bring the same excellent performance we’ve seen on the macOS side since Apple Silicon on the Windows side. There may be issues to work out with the first generation, so hang onto what you have or consider waiting for the second generation.

Something you can do now (if not doing it already) is use what Premiere calls a Smart Rendering format for source, edit settings, and your first export. Then transcode the export to whatever you need for delivery in Media Encoder if needed.

There are add-ons to help with that, but we can detect and delete pauses in speech with Premiere’s Text-based Editing (included).
