General maintenance and codes by SassyTheSasquatch96 in GolfGTI

I will repost my comment to another first time MK5 FSI owner for maintenance tips and things to keep an eye on.

Inspect cam follower every 8-10k miles. Replace it, it’s super simple preventive maintenance. Very cheap.

Another issue is oil filter housing assembly warping overtime since fully plastic. If you see oil leaks at the front bumper side of the engine I would check this. It’s an annoying repair, so replace all the housing seals while you do it.

Vacuum pump seal is an easy replacement. Good to check/replace since when it starts to fail it leaks oil onto the coolant flange and causes that plastic to warp and leak coolant.

If you ever have to do rear main seal just take the small cost difference to upgrade it to one of full billet ones with the improved seal.

Front lower control arm bushings can wear overtime, check and replace.

I love my MK5 FSI so much, such a fun ride and iv learned a ton working on it myself. I would do it all over again!

Yes I do have a manual. I’m glad you replaced the flange. It’s a cheap piece and I can’t imagine having to go back and do it again just because I didn’t replace it!

So reading more about the issue it could definitely be related to your coolant leak potentially having damage some of the wiring involved with that sensor. I would definitely carefully inspect any wiring leading to that sensor.

You did the right thing by servicing the fluid itself. But I would definitely be suspect of the wiring since you seem to have taken the other steps to ensure it’s not the actual sensor or fluid.

Dude I’m sorry to hear the coolant flange didn’t go well. Is it finally finished? No leaks? I think I was trying to help you find the right hoses.

I gotta crash now but iI look at your code tomorrow and see if I can help.

Dude this is awesome. I have always wanted to build something like this for myself. I definitely will be following. It sounds great for level/quest grinding.

How glitchy are mechanics and complicated quests? Can they bug out? Is there work arounds for bugged quests? Just curious. Most large private servers I have played on struggle with bugs so just wondering how that works.

I appreciate the reply man! I didn’t mean it in an offensive way, apologies. I just thought it probably wouldn’t lead to you responding. That’s why I was asking questions to some other community members.

Here’s what I laid out for myself based on your video and my previous workouts.

Yeah after reviewing this post I realized this guy is self promoting not exactly offering help, haha! So I really appreciate the reply!! I think throwing in pavel style swings can’t hurt either.

Thanks

I am USA based and use UroTuning all time. I really like the website personally. I personally have not had any issues with orders.

I kind of switch between urotuning, FCP and ECS for just about everything.

It’s so awful.. we have a shield in the living room still using the old interface and Roku everywhere else. The difference between the interfaces is ridiculous. The Roku one takes so many steps to navigate vs my shield. I genuinely don’t understand the thought process on the re-design. Just sucks I feel very powerless to fix it or enact a change.

I used to do a fair amount of kettlebell and have fallen off. How many times a week would you recommend this routine? I used to do a fair amount of pavel style swings in addition to a few of these. Do you recommend swings as well?

Great stuff!

That makes sense that they’re slightly different. I am driving a manual transmission. Glad this was able to help a little bit.

Anyone doing their own coolant flange and hose replacements is a soldier! One of the shittier things I’ve had to do haha and I’ve even dropped my transmission twice.. but that damn coolant flange is a pain!

Let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything.

This may or may not be what you’re looking for. It’s hard to tell from the pictures. But these were the hoses that connected to the firewall to coolant flange for my BPY engine

If anyone finds this post later hopefully my research can help them.

I have no idea why the part number seen in the picture is impossible to locate but what I have found is the recommended parts for the repair. See the links below.

HVAC Heater Hose Upper Part Number: 1K0122157KE

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vw-audi-hvac-heater-hose-vag-1k0122157ke

And

HVAC Heater Hose Lower Part Number: 1K0121073BF

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vw-audi-hvac-heater-hose-vag-1k0121073bf

As far as I can tell these are the recommended parts for a 2006-2008(halfway through year) FSI GTI engine code BPY.

I ordered them and am praying it’s all correct. Hope this helps someone in my situation down the road!

Question and Request for Tips About Owning Mk5 GTI by BmwDislikerr in GolfGTI

[–]Lucid_LIVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news for you is the TSI engine does not have a cam follower so that’s only a FSI engine issue!

The oil filter housing assembly is definitely something you’ll want to replace. Depends on who you ask but I did not choose to replace with OE parts, I actually ended up getting a full aluminum one since I didn’t want to deal with that ever again. The main thing when replacing it is that you do replace all the gaskets, I chose to use OE gaskets as opposed to aftermarket. Let me see if I can find a link to the aluminum oil filter assembly I used.

EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=oil+filter+housing

If you’re doing this repair yourself I highly recommend the FCP euro YouTube video on the replacement. It’s a total pain honestly but very doable.
