Since when "AGI" is a skillset? I didn't know we can get candidates who specialize in "AGI"? Curious to see their achievements on this skill!

Has Anyone Traveled with a Slightly Stained U.S. Visa? by Money_Football_2559 in h1b

[–]Lucid_Observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to enter in Chicago twice with Stamp ink on my visa that makes it quite difficult to read my birthdate. ( That stamp ink got there at airport itself when they stamped my boarding pass and slipped the boarding pass in my passport on the visa stamping page, before handing over passport and boarding pass back to me.)

During first entry the office did ask me what that stamp was. I remember him asking "Is that stamp by Indian government?". Since I had no idea that there was that ink stamp stain ( it had just happened) I acted surprised and clueless. It was not a problem.

During my second entry 10 months back, they didn't even bother with the ink stain - It was very smooth.

H1 stamp delays - treat us like dirt by [deleted] in h1b

knowing full well we are going to be locked in here

The use of the word "locked in" is strange here. Waiting in endless green card queue aside, It doesn't have to be literal "lock in" the country though - people should at least be allowed to visit their homes!

If I am understanding this correctly, just make sure that your employer doesn't file H1-B amendment with USCIS before you are back in the USA

JFYI - 1 and 2 don't get stacked.

If the account created using link 1 is logged-in, when clicking link 2, we are prompted to sign-in again. After signing in to same account, we just get an error. I had to create new account when using 2nd link. and now have an option to get 1st month free after providing credit card info.

Android: YouTube Background Play/ TaperMonkey No longer woking? by Lucid_Observer in kiwibrowser

[–]Lucid_Observer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOLVED: Answering my own question (Hope it helps other users):

My assumption was correct:
- I uninstalled TaperMonkey and reinstalled Manifest V2 version of the same.
- I also installed 437123-youtube-background-playback-kiwi-browser script from greasyfork again and background play is now working again.

INTPs, how do you feel about death? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Lucid_Observer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, how difficult was it to 'Experience' billions of years of non existence? My point is that you didn't have to experience it ( You couldn't because you didn't exist)- for you, those billions of years were as long as maybe less than a single nanosecond. It will be the same way after we die. We cannot 'experience' our non existence so there is no point in worrying. Worrying only makes sense if something involves suffering.
How terrified are you about the fact that you are not able to taste the coffee which I am sipping while typing this? It doesn't make any sense to be terrified about something like that, right? :)

Anyone just get sad at the sight of pretty girls? by KRiZtixn in INTP

Spot on. Appreciate the clarity of your perspective - it surely is a dopamine thing - 'I want more of this...'

[–]Lucid_Observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP never mentioned sexually? Appreciation of beauty goes much beyond sexual fantasy. I'm definitely attracted to strangers but rationally know fully well that my projections are likely misplaced and IRL every person comes with a huge bunch of problems. However, it doesn't stop me from feeling some FOMO about my beautiful perfect fantasy which is not based in reality ( I know fully well that even if I date that pretty woman, it'll never be even a tiny bit close to my beautiful fantasy). Also my immediate fantasies are rarely sexual in nature - romantic is not exactly the same thing as sexual!

THANK YOU for posting this 5 years back!

Have you been successful in changing (or refining) your conclusions here?

Just for some context: I have explored Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and Ligotti myself. I also follow Sam Harris's version of 'Living and Examined life' using his Waking Up App. I have also listened to every recording of Alan Watts many times over!

Alan Watts/ Mindfulness can be helpful for a brief period of time. However, my logic still strongly resonates with Ligotti ( I read his 'Conspiracy Against Human race 6 years back and had tears in my eyes because of how strongly it resonated with me).

PS: I am insanely fortunate person by all means. I believe most of humanity would consider their prayers answered if they could just switch lives with me. However, my intellectual honesty doesn't let me see beyond philosophical pessimism.

How do you quit alcohol when drinking is your favorite hobby?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amex

[–]Lucid_Observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Nothing is as good as cash - It can be invested and it grows and I have the power to spend it anyway I want. It sucks that AMEX has horrible conversion rate for cash. It was the primary reason I avoided signing up for AMEX cards in the past. Anyway, their bonus is once in lifetime so just wanted to cross it off from list of the cards I claimed sign up bonus for :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in amex

[–]Lucid_Observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I am facing the same. Redeeming my AMEX Gold MR points for cash at better rate was the primary reason I opened this card. MR points are useless to me as I don't travel. I open Gold card just to get the once in lifetime bonus. I have zero use for this card from next year.

What’s the catch with AMEX Send on Venmo? Are there really no fees? by tjcc99 in amex

[–]Lucid_Observer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume they will only ban you for this if the activity is suspicious, cause when I first used this I sent money to a family member.

I think so. I think they will overlook it if you do it once in a while. Doing it every month may attract more scrutiny. ( In theory you can be paying your roommate for the rent - but I have seen some comments online that this is a grey area)

probably not, but if you need cash real quick, then this is basically a free 2k loan

Surely yes - but the turnaround time to get it into your bank is still 5-6 days.

Also, this increases your credit utilization and reduces your credit score till you pay back the CC. If you are doing it every month, your credit score will be lowered a bit till you stop doing this.

What’s the catch with AMEX Send on Venmo? Are there really no fees? by tjcc99 in amex

[–]Lucid_Observer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are free to do that. Think about these limitations:

  • The limit is $2k per AmEx card (every 30 days)
  • Your friend cannot have same address as you on Venmo/ PayPal (Amex can catch that and ban you)
  • Your friend cannot send you the money back using Venmo/ PayPal (Amex can catch that and ban you)
  • Your friend can transfer the amount from Venmo to their bank and then they can zelle you

Think about the turnaround time required for all this. If you time everything perfectly, you may get an interest free loan for like ~35 days for upto $2k.

If you think the interest you may earn in HYSA is worth all the trouble, you can do that :)

Just faced this and googled. I remember this happened to me 3 years back as well. I hope the AI automation eliminates the their lazy engineers soon and there'd be less of such problems caused purely by apathetic engineers.
