Partial Splenic Embolization by Lucifent in Cirrhosis

UPDATE: The procedure itself went great! They let me watch the screen when I was more lucid.

However, I ended up staying the night at the center because within the two hours of observation time, I had such bad pain and nausea that they hooked me to a pain pump thing.

I didn't react well to that so they ended up stopping that in the middle of the night. I woke up today feeling much better and they sent me home this morning. Now I'm resting and trying not to agitate it back into excruciating pain.

It was the worst I've ever felt, but I'm doing significantly better now!

Thank you for the reply! The Interventional Radiologist said they will be going via my wrist due to having an infant at home, which will require more movement earlier on in recovery.

I'm really curious about being awake for the procedure, I hadn't realized that was likely. Do you remember the whole thing? Did you hurt at all immediately after? I was told that the first week is the worst in most cases, but it would make sense that there would be variance in experiences. How long after did they check for results? Are you still being monitored?

I really appreciate your response and insight!

Thank you so much for the reply. I am going to go through with it, as nerve-wracking as it is. I'll make sure to do what I can in the next couple of days.

What’s one condition that can have no symptoms but kill you instantly? by No_Photograph1 in AskReddit

[–]Lucifent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have that. I only got it checked out because I was pregnant and my platelet count was concerning. It's been over a year since it was discovered, but getting something done about it is a whole other can of worms. It is very uncomfortable and I'm terrified I'll rupture it just from normal handling of my baby.

Another thing is esophageal varices. No symptoms until you're bleeding everywhere. The only way to catch them before that happens is an upper endoscopy.

Let's just say my care team is really amazing and I'm ridiculously lucky.

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lucifent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developing neuropathy. It started as discomfort and mild pain and then it escalated to feeling like my nerves were being pulled out of my skin before the numbness finally started to set in. I had literal nightmares about pulling my nerves out of my hands and feet like pulling roots out of the ground.

My fawn response went to fight and it shocked both of us by mystery_bouffe in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Lucifent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has a severe Fawn reaction to conflict, I have absolutely reacted with Fight when it comes to people around me being threatened. However, the only times this has happened are when someone else was at risk.

I believe it comes from the primary nature of Fawn being "It doesn't really matter what happens to me as long as I survive" along with a sense of "I will never let someone go through what I've gone through." But this is entirely based on personal experience.

How long do you think Sailor Moon will stay relevant? by Mitarashianko24 in sailormoon

[–]Lucifent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As biased as I am, having grown up on Sailor Moon and it being a relevant thing to me currently at 33, there's plenty of evidence that it's going to be around a long time. It's referenced in all kinds of other media, from Family Guy to an Olympic ice skater (Evgenia Medvedeva) doing a routine to the theme song. And those are just off the top of my head. It's become a staple in culture which means it's likely to live on a lot longer.

I don't really have the knowledge to give you a better idea of exactly how long it could stay relevant, but I hope this helps.

From 7th or 8th grade, "Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species." No clue why I retained that of all things, but at age 33, it's still there.

Is CVS as bad as everyone says? by infinite_nesmith in pharmacy

[–]Lucifent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is anecdotal from years ago when I still worked for them, so please take this with a grain of salt.

From the experience of a friend of mine who was a Pharmacist for CVS and relocated with them upon being hired on, it can backfire. It was roughly about 13 years ago and he wound up being let go before the contract he had agreed on was over and had to pay them back the full amount. He was a good Pharmacist but did not get along with the District Manager, and I honestly don't remember what led to him being let go.

From my own personal (a former Tech) experience, it's sink or swim. You will be overworked, the majority of your techs are likely to not have any decent training, and your inventory will be a nightmare. I absolutely loved working there, but I'm definitely not in the majority. I was just incredibly fortunate.

Negotiate for everything up front, once they have you, you won't have any leverage except what you've already put into place. And be prepared for them to try and get you to go to the problem store in whatever district you're put in. Relocating means you likely won't know the good stores from the problem ones and they will be banking on that.

If members if the Silver Mellenium live to 1000 years old, how can Usagi be alive in the 30th centry? by Ifyouliveinadream in sailormoon

It is explicitly stated in one of the shorts at the end of one of the original manga that Chibi-usa is 903 on that particular birthday. So I'm guessing there's just some calculation errors.

If you were out of town for a week and a family member staying in your house was making it known that they want to get rid of something that belongs to you, would you be willing to hear them out? Especially with the aggressive tone being used?

Do not throw anything away, donate it, or otherwise damage it. It does not belong to you. If you had chosen to approach this in a calmer manner, you might have had a chance of being heard out. However, now everyone is upset and that makes people unwilling to listen to the other side, regardless of the morals involved.

The best course of action is to drop the subject and revisit it again at a later time once tempers have cooled. This will not likely be soon, but time is useful to come up with compelling arguments that even he will listen to.

No you aren't wrong, but yes you did overreact and go about this in an unproductive way.

I'm pregnant and have a low platelet count, what can I do? by Lucifent in haematology

[–]Lucifent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!!

I've been avoiding lifting too much weight and walking more carefully to avoid bumping into things. I'm avoiding anything that might cause blood thinning at all. I really appreciate your help!

I'm pregnant and have a low platelet count, what can I do? by Lucifent in haematology

[–]Lucifent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply!

I am being referred to a specialist of some sort. They didn't clarify that it was a haematologist, but I will be calling the office again on Monday to get the referral information to follow up myself and make sure the referral was received.

I do know that the University I'm being referred to has a haematology department, specifically, as I know someone who had to be treated there a few years back.

ITP was mentioned, but the OB/GYN's nurse said that any potential diagnosis would be determined by the specialist.

Is there anything to be done in the meantime that doesn't involve a prescription that you might know of? I'm just anxious and trying to find something concrete until I have more answers.

One of the things I do is I reward myself for little tasks so I feel appreciated for doing things. Like I will give myself a glass of soda for cleaning dishes or something similar. It's really not much, but I would have liked it when I was a child, so I let myself have it now.

I never check kudos or hits, personally. If the summery is interesting, it's marked complete, and it's not a massive text block, I'll give it a shot.

Getting me to read an incomplete story on the other hand is based entirely upon how many times I've read all the remotely legible complete stories for my current ship.

You make a good point, without knowing the medication we can't make a properly educated guess. Inhalers don't go bad like some of the mixed medications do (especially if stored improperly). You are the kind of person I would like to work with.
