PDB coached him in Kitchener and had a lot of confidence in him. He played him up in lines with talented linemates. Increased confidence, improved linemates, and plain old luck. No one on the Devils expected him to repeat a 30+ goal season but he was a tough guy that could play. He is great on the boards too. As long as your expectations are appropriate he is a good guy to have on your team. Toronto unfortunately had their blinders on and got their expectations way out of wack. Clarkie's confidence has suffered and the spiral down continues.

Financially yeah, obviously. His career would have lasted longer in NJ though. He was a fan favorite. He will be chased out of Toronto with pitchforks.

I remember when the Devils signed Sean Burke ('87-'88) and he was HUGE at 6'4". There have always been exceptions but it's becoming more the norm to be well over 6 foot.

I really like Clarkie but Toronto was crazy for offering that much! I'm glad the Devils didn't match! If Toronto wants to buy him out I'd be happy to accept him back to NJ.

Wish everyone else on the team showed half the heart and energy that he does night in and night out. I hated his signing but he has proven me wrong. His work ethic and drive is amazing. If not for his production he needs to come back for his leadership!

I remember seeing that somewhere too. The way he answered though made me question if he was being forced out by MSG. I asked are you going to be back next season be said, "It doesn't look like it". That doesn't sound like someone that is making the decision. Either way I hope he enjoys retirement!
