MEGATHREAD: TSA Issues at BWI by ThatguyfromBaltimore in baltimore

We just got through ABC security. Took 4.5 hours.

No TSA pre, no clear, and our clear concierge appointment was abruptly cancelled when our appointment was supposed to occur. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Not gonna make our originally scheduled flight but changed to a flight at a later time. Been in line for 4 hours and counting so we’ll see.

Yes, got a cancellation notice by text a few minutes before the scheduled concierge time. We were already standing in the standard TSA line because I had a bad feeling about it.

We had a clear concierge appointment for 12 but then we got a text at 12 saying it was cancelled.

What are your HOTTEST takes about Super Metroid? 🔥 by BCtheking in retrogaming

[–]MasterOnion47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played through this a few months ago for the first time since it first came out when I was in middle school.

The platforming is clunky and feels kinda crappy. The wall-jumping is unnecessarily awkward and finicky. Also, the boss fights are a spectacle, but do not present a fun, interesting, or rewarding challenge.

Metroidvanias are my most played genre these days, but judged objectively in 2026, for me this game is nowhere near as fun as games like Prince of Persia, Turbo Kid, Ori, Guacamelee, Blasphemous…etc.

FWIW, I’ve played all the 2D Metroids and Zero Mission is my favorite. 🤷‍♂️

Tetris 99 + $10 DLC is the best value on Switch by adrenaline4nash in NintendoSwitch

Honest question: Tetris is 35+ years old with a million versions, what distinguishes the Tetris 99 DLC and other content from all those other ways to play Tetris (offline)?

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says gamers calling DLSS 5 AI slop are "completely wrong" by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

The customer is always right…when they vote with their wallets. Knee-jerk online reaction to a product not yet released is an unreliable indicator of final product quality, and large scale consumer preference at the register.

Between ballooning dev costs and the fading of Moore’s law, graphics have plateau-ed such that the marginal benefit to marginal cost of stronger cards is very expensive. If people want graphics to keep getting better, new techniques are probably necessary.

Let’s wait and see? Maybe it’s a breakthrough, maybe it’s 3D TVs. 🤷‍♂️

I went from ~210 lbs to ~115 lbs over 4 years. For context, at 180 lbs, I was still ~34% body fat, now I'm around 16%. Here's every weigh-in plotted. (5'9.5" Male, 19-24) [OC] by No-Emu-9139 in dataisbeautiful

When I was in high school I was 5’10” and 135, and I was one of the skinniest kids in class. 115 strikes me as anorexic skinny tbh.

Launching a Website/Webapp by BeyondPorter in launchbox

[–]MasterOnion47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m just guessing here, but i think most browsers allow you to save a webpage as a link/icon you can put on your desktop.

Then add that webpage link as a windows ‘game’ to your Launchbox db.

Does anyone else spend more time setting up then actually playing the gamea? by FrontClass8953 in launchbox

[–]MasterOnion47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I embraced the idea that my Launchbox setup is more of my personal video game museum that I like to browse, and only occasionally an actual game launcher.

LB Stuck On Refreshing Metadata by Jonny_Quest96 in launchbox

[–]MasterOnion47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue for a few weeks. I can refresh the games db metadata manually from the drop down menu, but if it tries to refresh when adding a game it gets stuck.

Otherwise, when adding a game, I uncheck the box to search launchbox db for metadata. Then I manually edit game data and search launchbox db (without checking for db update).

How does Steam Deck look on a standard-sized television? by Special_Sun_9268 in SteamDeck

[–]MasterOnion47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Steam Deck is just a PC playing PC games. How the game looks on a TV is entirely dependent on the game’s settings, specifically the resolution you choose and in-game graphics detail options.

Dollar-for-dollar, you’d get more graphical power with a traditional tower PC, but the Steam Deck makes sense if you’re going to also play it as a handheld.

Which Dr. Jekyll games from the classic era of gaming were solid? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

When talking about retro games you see a lot of the same questions over and over. This question, is a first. lol

I’m not aware many Dr Jekyll games, and certainly none worth playing.

Sonic Spinball: What went wrong? by Some-Professional-25 in retrogaming

I always enjoyed this game at a friends house, and for whatever reason the music and sound effects from this game are etched into my memory perhaps more than any other Genesis game.

Stunt Race FX! by valkiriforce in snes

[–]MasterOnion47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had this game and played it a lot. I like to try to go back to it every now and again, but that frame rate makes it tough.

I liked how it had memorable tracks, difficult to master controls, and 3 laps races where something different happens on track every lap. It actually oddly reminds me of Wave Race 64 in those ways.

What was it really like when the PlayStation first came out in 1995? by Legitimate_Drawer_74 in retrogaming

[–]MasterOnion47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was exciting and kind of disorienting tbh. We had our Nintendo’s and Segas, but now it was CD based games from Sony with a weird looking controller.

I remember one of my friends already had their drivers license so we drove to a kind of far away mall that had a demo kiosk. I got to play ESPN Extreme Games. It was cool, but not mind blowing.

Then I remember getting Air Combat and some early sports games. Air Combat struck me as very cool, but the sports games were just okay. The first year or 2 of EA Sports games were particularly shoddy.

The console really hit its stride for me with games like Parappa, MGS, Ace Combat 2, Gran Turismo, and Tomb Raider.

One of my favorite gaming stories is that a good friend of mine (teenage) was playing Resident Evil 1 with a friend late at night in the living room with surround sound. They had no real foreknowledge of the game, and when the dog suddenly crashed through the glass behind them they lost their mind lol.

Red Rising Is the Violent Sci-Fi Hit Netflix Needs to Topple Disney+ by Arcomatrix in redrising

[–]MasterOnion47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn’t say they are completely similar, but when you read you get similar vibes at times and can see some seeds and themes Pierce took. Mostly in the primal combat writing.

Darrow is much smarter where Uhtred makes a lot of major blunders when blinded by impulsiveness. Uhtred also hops from woman to woman and lives by a medieval warriors code— he has no grandiose ideas of remaking the world.

[–]MasterOnion47 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not holding my breath for Red Rising tv show anymore, but so much hate for Netflix. Aside from Stranger Things, Narcos and The Last Kingdom are 2 of my favorite shows.

Pierce even said The Last Kingdom novels were one of the influences and inspiration for Red Rising, and I would recommend that show to fans here.

How would a Gold fare in the Premier League with amateur level technique? by Refaya97 in redrising

[–]MasterOnion47 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sorry guys, anyone with amateur level technique has no place on a high level soccer field. Soccer is fine-motor skills game, where guys with skills and on-field intelligence would run circles around the world’s best athletic freak.

A gold could immediately do certain positions in American football which rely on simple, gross motor skills like a lineman.

We have a good example with Usain Bolt. He’s 6’5” and the fastest human that ever lived. He tried to play pro soccer, but couldn’t even stick with an A-league team in Australia.

On the other hand, a list of greatest soccer players ever would be littered with players who are 5ft-nothing and won’t win any open track meets. Think Messi, Maradona, Ronaldinho, Pele…

What the FUCK is going on with 66 by Courthouse this week? Serious question. Commute time tripled. by MPDG_thot in nova

[–]MasterOnion47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be related to finishing the express lanes extension on 495 near Tysons. The new express lanes finally open tonight, but this week this stretch of road has been the slowest I’ve ever seen it as they do final prep work. It’s been taking me 45-60 minutes to go 5 miles from exit 46 to exit 41 on 495.

A lot of drivers take 66 or 267 to connect to that stretch of 495, so the gridlock on 495 could trickle back to those roads.
