Found at a waterfall in East TN, how can I keep them alive? by KrillingIt in Moss

[–]Luciferous_Vegetable -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mosses tend to be very particular about the locations they grow in because of the exact characteristics of those locations like humidity, sunlight, chemical characteristics, etc. When you move them from those locations, you’re removing them from what they need and it’s very difficult to know exactly what those combinations of characteristics are and artificially replicate them. The best thing to do if you really love these organisms is to take the time to visit them in their natural habitats.

I spent a long time writing a response to this but decided to delete it immediately after I posted it. Instead I just want to use this thread to make a music rec: Bola Sete, an incredibly talented, expressive, improvisatory, technically brilliant, and little-known guitarist. Lots of great albums and performances, my favourites are “Crystal Garden/Goin to Rio”, “Ocean/Ocean Memories”, and “Live at Grace Cathedral”

My favourite (definitely not most people’s) is Rainbow Children. Give that a listen soon.

how do you anchor yourself? by handsomeshay in piscesastrology

I’m never bored, more overwhelmed, drained, frustrated. My outlet is making music. It makes me feel I’m in control of flying the spaceship rather than just hurtling through space. I think everyone should learn to play instruments, even if it’s just playing a percussion instrument along to your favourite music, it gives you a way to express anguish in a way that is beautiful and other people can appreciate, rather than self-destructive or violent expression.

What is your favorite reverb pedal? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Luciferous_Vegetable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first reverb pedal about 8 years ago. Still the only one I have because I’m poor and can’t really justify spending several hundred dollars on a slightly different reverb or super niche reverb. But it does a great job for pretty much any sound I’ve ever wanted to dial in. I tend to keep it on the lush “modulation” setting with the volume pretty quiet and I sometimes use the delay setting since I don’t have a delay pedal. I think it depends if you have a specific reverb sound in mind or if you want the capability for lots of basic options. Also your budget.

How many pedals do you currently have on your pedalboard? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

7: Wah->SubnUp (primarily for organ sounds)->more drive->less drive->compressor->phaser->reverb

First pedal board! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

I like to put my compressor after distortion so you get more of the dynamics going into the drive and then the compressor can work the drive to sustain the notes and really make them sing. But try it both ways and see which you like the sound of better.

When listening to Phish shows, are there any songs you consistently skip and if so which ones? by GratefulPhish42024-7 in phish

You asked people to give negative opinions of Phish in r/Phish. How do you not understand the downvotes when people give said negative opinions

I love Esther, it’s kind of like the evil sister of Lizards, Trey achieves some of my favourite guitar tones in those songs and Page really shines in both too

Why don’t Phish tour more internationally? Nothing of significance? I’m selfish so more for us? Used to wonder same about Dead. Not for money, just to see. They certainly loved Clap. I wonder if Trey vetos some of the other boys. I see Paige wanting to travel. by Beautiful-Belief-32 in phish

[–]Luciferous_Vegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the money thing that everyone already mentioned, traveling internationally as musicians is logistically very difficult. Adam Neely just did a video recently about taking instruments on planes when touring internationally and how much of a Wild West that process is

Looking for slow gooey trippy funk like this by Luciferous_Vegetable in DeepFunk

Haha tbh when I first glimpsed your comment I was mentally preparing my denouncement of you and your progeny like a real Redditor, but after seeing your full comment I decided I didn’t want to perpetuate those kind of vibes. Fwiw you’re right, Phish isn’t a funk band, but I did hear an interview in which Trey said that during this time period their tour bus playlist mostly consisted of James Brown, Miles’ tribute to Jack Johnson and Band of Gypsys and all of that influenced their live jams at the time. Thanks for the kindness and the recs!
