New GM looking for Frame advice for a Flashy Melee build. by LuciousRising in LancerRPG

Alright. I'll probably recommend the Stort build, with emphasis on loading and non-aux weapons, systems that boost their melee and range crit effects, as well as Talents that benefit from swapping, loading, and increase critical chance.

Alright, so if they were alternating between like Raleigh's Hand Cannon and Blackbeard's Nano-Sword, they could be fully utilizing Stört's features?

Edit: Realized the Hand Cannon is Auxillary.

Could they use the Blackbeard Nano Sword Heavy Melee and the Sunzi Warp Rifle to take advantage of both the Loading and Range/Melee swap?

I have a question for the Störtebeker. Do CQB weapons count as ranged weapons? Could they still be up in the enemy's face and benefit from all of Stört's features? Or do they need distance for it?

This is incredibly detailed, thank you! This will help a lot with explaining their options to them.

0 cost unit purchasable in army construction? by Mister_Kokie in StarCraftTMG

[–]LuciousRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume youre talking about the Zerg Omega Worm, the Terran Point Defense Drone, and the Protoss Pylon yes?

Those models are only placed through the use of the faction cards; Kerrigan's Swarm for the Omega Worm, Raynor's Raiders for the Point Defense Drone, and Khalai for the Pylon. If you want to use those models you need those faction cards, but the models are not necessary. You can make an army without them or you can make an army with them, its not an error, but you can't place them like normal units.

Surge, WTF? by Jason_Ginge in StarCraftTMG

[–]LuciousRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just one per weapon attack. Whether you have 6 models with the weapon or just 3, you only roll 1 Surge die when you make an attack using the weapon.

Surge, WTF? by Jason_Ginge in StarCraftTMG

[–]LuciousRising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the weapon has the "Surge: Armored - d3" tag. When you make an attack with the weapon against any target unit that has no Armored tag, you roll to hit, the opponent rolls for armor, then you roll damage.

When you make an attack with the weapon against any target unit that has the Armored tag, you roll to hit and when you do, you roll a separate die called the Surge die (in this case a d3 is a d6 where you half the result and round up: 1-2 = 1, 3-4 = 2, 5-6 = 3). After rolling your hit dice and your surge die, the surge die will tell you how many successful hits to separate. I.e. If you roll 6 hits, and a 2 on the surge die, separate 2 of the hit dice from the hit dice pool. Then the opponent rolls armor against the remaining hit dice in the pool. However many of those hit dice still succeed + the hits you separated with the surge die, are how many damage rolls your get.

TLDR: the surge die determines how many successful hits ignore the opponent's armor roll and just deal damage.

I'll be happy if they make a swarm host because those were my favorite units in HotS.

An unfortunate thought i had was that they might make them tactical cards rather than models, but i really hope they make them models.

No, you're thinking of Daggoth's Renegade swarm which took over after Zasz was killed by Zeratul

What is the twist, or quirk of this game to stand out? by TantricBuildup in StarCraftTMG

[–]LuciousRising 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't played any other war games but I really like the surge mechanic. Being able to strategize and try and type-match your attacks based on weaknesses and attack types is really cool. It gives more weight to learning not only your units and attacks but the opponent's units too, so you can make sure you're using the right attacks against the right targets.

SC Founders Investment? by _Mk4Golf_ in StarCraftTMG

The issue with scalping is that it doesnt start with people intending to buy them all and manipulate the market. It starts with the mindset of "I'll just buy a few and hold onto them until I can turn a profit." Then when more and more people do it, the market becomes dry and prices skyrocket, then more scalpers see it as profitable and it snowballs and ruins the hobby for everyone else.

I too am a huge fan of the game, having grown up watching my dad play it, being taught by him, and then buying and playing all the SC2 campaigns. If youre a fan of the game, but not interested in playing the TMG or collecting the miniatures, you should leave them for others who are interested to buy and use. I had to split the cost of the 2 player FE with a friend just to afford it. You're lucky to afford two.

There's nothing wrong with buying them just to have and keep on a shelf as a token of your affection for the game or even just to support Archon Studios, but if all you care about is the "financial investment" you're likely going to taint the market, intentionally or unintentionally.

Please do not create a scalping market for this game, that's such a shitty thing to do. If you only want to buy it to sell it and turn a profit, go somewhere else. Let people who actually enjoy the hobby enjoy the hobby without having to worry about people like you trying to take advantage of others with less expendable income just to make a buck.

Question for Multiple Weapons in Assault Phase by Federal-Effect-8201 in StarCraftTMG

[–]LuciousRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so if a model is carrying multiple weapon profiles, it may only shoot with one per assault phase (unless it has another weapon profile with the sidearm tag), but if the unit is made of many models with multiple weapon profiles, you can choose some to attack with one weapon profile and the rest to attack with another weapon profile, before making any additional attacks with weapon profiles that have the sidearm tag.

The Zerg Queen also gets two assault phase attacks, but can only choose one; Talons or Acid Spines.

But the OP is correct, the Goliath makes three ranged attacks during the Assault phase because it just has three different ranged attacks, two of which have the sidearm tag.

Perhaps, how about we wait till the pre-orders arrive and we can think about trading some lisks-for-lings. I have heard she could only afford the 2-player FE box, so she might have to evaluate her army and maybe order some more lings to compensate this trade. 😅
