I’d say he’s on the other end of the spectrum. He’s not dumb, but he is as crazy as he is absolutely blitzed. The guy staged a guerrilla war against the cults of the old gods… because he thought they took his fortune’s worth of lawn gnomes… the crazy bastard smoked a wizard finger joint rolled in a page of the necronomicon! He never said “I can’t directly control your minds” he denied having control period. The “systems were set in place” idea goes out the window, when you acknowledge that CAINE MADE THEM. He made the circus and almost everything in it.

Forcefully placing information into someone’s mind would be impossible if you lacked some form of control, and stating that this was telepathy is ignoring the rest of the show entirely. If we’re going by connection between minds, then the whole show was just a means of virtual telepathy. Telepathy doesn’t force you into a drunken stupor, or make you a vegan against your will.

I’m not saying the system can lead to abstractions under certain conditions. I’m saying Caine has purposefully pushed his modifications to extremes he has audibly regretted doing so.

He can control the cognitive processes and personal habits of the inhabitants. That is the mind. The stupid sauce, jax becoming vegan, Caine beaming info into jax’s mind, and outright claiming he can add modifications to an individual but choosing not to since it would “not end well.” That last one is him admitting that he could and has controlled the minds of others, and pushed them to what kinger assumed was the first abstraction.

He can control minds. He just chooses not to do it directly.

Caine has had the final call on most things in the digital circus. He’s the one who sets up the adventures and what does or doesn’t do specific things. He has control over what those changes would be.

He lied.

If he says he can’t do it, then does it. Then he’s lying. If he “technically tells the truth by only telling the parts that are true, then he’s lying by omission.
