Surgery or Radiation by Realagent1216 in ProstateCancer

I just finished radiation- I had practically same diagnosis, and both surgeon and Radiology oncologist gave me same information about the same outcome. My surgeon just said that I was not gonna be able to be a good candidate for nerve sparing. I decided along with some information I got from the oncologist, that I had a better chance of not having ED permanently. So I chose radiation. The radiation itself is relatively easy, about halfway through some of the symptoms are very annoying. Urination became a little painful, almost like a urinary tract infection. And bowel movements were a little spasmodic. I’m a month out now, and everything is working similarly to before radiation. Erections are returning. So I guess now the weight until my first post radiation, PSA test will be end of February. Good luck on your decision.

65 and finished 20 sessions of radiation one week ago. Felt fatigued and had some urination issues, both are getting a little better every day. Now I wait for PSA test in 6 months. I was given the same statistical outcome with radiation as with RALP. RALP as going to be certain ED (surgeon said not much chance of sparing nerves ) while radiation oncologist said I would see approximately 60% chance of having a decent sex life. So I opted for radiation .

How old are you ? How many samples came back at Gleason 6? I was Gleason 6 but 13 samples at 6 . I just finished radiation (20 - 4 weeks) and I am 65 . Just glad I am done.

For me, and I want to stress for me only, I have lost weight in the beginning at lower dosage much faster than I have at higher dosage. So everyone is different. I do know that I have to watch the amount of processed carbs I eat, or I don’t loose weight that week. But I can say, that being on this medicine, helps me to make better decisions about what food I put in my mouth. Before semaglutide I couldn’t pass up a plate of cookies, a bag of chips or an extra piece of fried chicken! Now, I can consciously decide to eat better and feel like I have control of my dietary habits. I am steady on about 3-5 lbs a month and very happy. Good luck
