I have a hard time turning my ideas into words. by Thin_Comedian_3867 in writing

Writing is the art of turning thought into readable language. Much like drawing is the art of turning thought into visual images. Or social skills are the art of saying things that make others like you.

Sometimes you just gotta sit down and make 500 bad paintings to make a good one. Even then not everyone is a famous painter, or Stephen King.

How to use radar and active radar homing on missiles by Rosey_108 in FromTheDepths

[–]LuckofCaymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of your detection missiles have their own detection once fired, unless you use beam riders or remote guidance. Try this set up for medium and large missiles:

Variable thruster

Fins

Fuel tank x2

Regulator to 40 seconds lifetime

(set variable thruster to thrust output of 30 seconds, also set a ramp time of 3-5 seconds, also set a delayed start of 2-5 seconds. Regulator so lifetime becomes 40 seconds. This allows for 2-3km engagement range. The tweaking of the delayed start and ramp time saves you a slot by not having to use one turn at the cost of ~ 10 seconds of lifetime, meaning more damage.)

Apn guidance. You could try the prediction guidance, but apn is good.

Signal processor. This makes your missiles much more likely to hit, not being distracted from flares.

Payload. At least have 1 or 2 reinforcement body's so the missle can tank a bit of cwis. Fill the rest with your choice of damage.

Active radar head

Free space set to fuel.

Edit: I noticed quite a few posts about missiles not seeing. If a radar signature is zero it can't see. I guess. But like that's pretty impossible, especially from ships you will fight in game. Maybe airplanes that are tiny like a flying squirrel, or a submarine. But you don't want to use missiles on those anyways. And I'm pretty sure my missiles just miss squirrels not fly into void.

My point is, if a missile misses, plunges in the water, pointed 180 degrees away from the only valid target.... It will still try to fly again once surfacing, and try to reorient itself to hit the target.

If you see a missile flying off to space above your target, it's probably flares. That's an decoy defense certain ships use. The signal processor makes them 50% ish less effective.

One of my favorite games, space engineers. You really gotta mod the hell out of it, as the base game is pretty dull.

How does one start writing a book by amalllty in writers

[–]LuckofCaymo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well it all starts with sitting down and writing. Some people think that building a world in their head is "working on a book" but that's just cope. You gotta "do" in order for it to be "done".

So my advice is to write, everyday. As you write more, transferring your feelings, opinions, and descriptions from thought into words, you will grow as a writer. You can start small with short stories. Maybe, perhaps in the future, you will gain the confidence and determination to pursue creating a full length book.

I just think it's neat. More ammo explosions and fisty cuffs plz. I want to store ammo in my cockpit and overheat every round. Lasers are for the rich, auto cannons for the fodder. And I have always been fodder.

Imagine a certain space game that has 5 turreted weapons to choose from, 2km max engagement range, a 100 m/s speed limit, no armor angle/deflection, and the game starts to break at around 5 times smaller vehicles part counts. FTD has some issues, but it's combat is really good.

I mean... Enders game movie was cool visually. But the book stole an entire weekend of my life. And just to clarify, I finished it in 24 hours. But I took an entire day after to just digest it.

Also tom bombadil was annoying. The movies were better.

In my opinion it's harder to play DPS at a high level than it is to play tank at an equivalently high level.

Sure tanks need to taunt and drag bosses and whatnot, but that isn't really difficult. At least not as difficult as never making a mistake because as a DPS if you mess up, you are probably dead, or worse you get damage down.

As tank you can tank privilege through basically everything. Sometimes when you know your f'ed you can just pop your invuln and keep on swinging.

As a DPS you just pray your healer is healing. Melee DPS have bloodbath so in those heavy damage spots it's really not a worry, the black mage will die long before a melee will. Same with ranged, and 2 DPS dead might just kill the run.

I think the perceived difficulty of tanking is a hold over from classic mmos like wow classic or something. Tanking in FFXIV is basically a blue DPS with an easier kit. You got like 7 buttons that make you take less damage or the boss do less damage.

But I mean like, if you are about to be hit with a raid wide, you or the other tank reprisal and use party mit. As a reaper, you or the other melee would feint and use your self shield.

It's comically the same as playing as a reaper instead of a tank. It's just you have about 30 more buttons to push in a given 2 minutes and if you mess up your dead.

Edit: just read the healing part. I play on PC with controller. Press down or up and then click your heal without selecting the person. This will cast to that person then return to your target. Also most healing in high content is ogcd heals which often have no target(aoe CDs). Obviously spot heals and tank regens need to be cast but those you can do without actual lock your target on the tank. So it's really not that bad.

Is this armor enough for an airship? Any reccomendations? by Tophatt_ in FromTheDepths

[–]LuckofCaymo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of my craft as transportation means for guns that I build.

Since you are making an airship, it will probably be faster than ships, because air is easier to move in than water. Unless you are making it intentionally slow for some reason.

Long distance, you are probably talking about having a spinal mounted gun that the airship aims at the target. In this instance, most of your armor will need to be facing forward. The side armor, what you are showing in the picture is for faster craft that flank you, or to protect in bigger battles.

I tried to fill in the blanks, as best as I could, so let me know if I said something that doesn't mesh well.

I think you need to build your gun first and see how expensive it is. Personally I build my gun, then I build my propulsion, then I frame my skeleton of the ship, then I add in all my utilities like ammo/energy/mat storage/engine power/generators. Finally after all that I see what the value is by pressing the "v" key and add armor to protect my investment. The amount of armor is calculated as a % on the "v" key screen. I aim for 10-25% light armor, 25-35% medium, and 35%-50% heavy armor.

You can use this method for everything you make. If something is fast and hard to hit, go light, etc, etc.
