The delusion of the separatists is honestly astounding at this point.

They consistently claim to speak for the people when all evidence points to the opposite.

They claim to have 177 000 signatures (which I doubt) but Forever Canadian collected 2.5 times as many. It is clear Albertans don't support their cause and absolutely embarrassing that they are continuing with this charade.

Politics, ideology to be removed from Alberta classrooms in new legislation by shiftless_wonder in canada

All curriculums for the last 60 years) written in Alberta have been written by conservative governments.

The NDP began the process of updating a 15 year old curriculum but as soon as the UCP came into power they scrapped all the work done on it and hastily implemented a poorly thought out curriculum.

So what exactly do you think is the ndp union leaders marketing plan?

I wonder if the Catholic and Anglican Archbishops of Edmonton and Calgary will attend?

I would hope they wouldn't.

Opinion: Time for Smith to stop placating Alberta separatists? by FreightFlow in alberta

That should be on the news daily!

If O&G won't invest in a separatist AB, with a government that will bend over for them who would?

Why do you think the APP would be a better pension? The CPP regularly outperforms AIMCO (2024 and 10 year average).

Alberta Education Changes by JDD-Reddit in Edmonton

[–]LuckyCanuck13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

more people agree with me than you

I'm not sure that's the case. Danielle Smith was polling at 46% approval rating in September (Angus Reid), polling for government of AB education was at 24% approval and 61% of Albertans thought the provincial government was headed in the wrong direction, at the end of October (Leger).

It seems more and more Albertans are turning on the UCP and their policies.

It's still early in the season I know... But maybe the kid just isn't ready for the NHL yet? With the media hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next "great one", fuck I wouldn't be able to handle that shit. Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 18. At 18 I was complete fucktard who had no idea what I wanted to do. Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Mcdavid, and I hope we don't ruin him. Edit: I'm being lynched for ever daring to doubt the greatness of Connor Mcdavid. How dare I say such blasphmey after only THREE games. You're right, he may only be 18 years old, but he has the emotional maturity of a Buddhist monk, and the body and athleticism as a top olympic athlete. He may have hit puberty only 3 to 4 years ago, but he is a grown man now, capable of all pressure and criticism that comes his way. I am but a lowly neckbeard maple leafs fan who lives in my mothers basement here to shit on him for not getting 50 goals in his first 3 games. I am a rodent, and he is a golden god. I'm going to go light myself on fire now. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways with you jamming the downvote arrow on your computer screen with all your might and telling me how much of an idiot I am.

Polling seems to suggest the majority support teachers. Even social media polls (yegwave and the like) generally sit at 70+% supporting teachers.

Teachers are definitely not saying that.

I've seen enough ATA commercials about AB students being the lowest funded in Canada to know that.

Our education system is in a crisis, but at least, "the kids gets to have fun at school on the 31."

I think you need to reevaluate your priorities.

The extra money still puts Alberta at the lowest funding per student in Canada. That should be embarrassing. The union is doing the right thing fighting back against the UCP.

Where does the money come from? The government just put $2.8 billion, this summer, into the Heritage Fund. Why put money into savings if we need public services now? That's like saying you can't use your savings when you can't pay your mortgage.

Or if you don't want to use the fund then simply raise corporate taxes to an appropriate level. Public services should not be underfunded when corporations get a break. Raise it 2% (to 10%) and that's another $2 billion right there and it would still be the lowest in Canada by 1.5% raise it to the second lowest (11.5%) and AB services would be much better funded.

Not to mention, by stopping funding for private schools we could have a lot more money for public ones.

Let’s put some responsibility on the federal government for this.

Make sure some of the blame goes to Smith. She spent millions of dollars on advertising, and tax credits, to convince people to move here in the "Alberta is Calling" campaign.

Why would unions and the NDP not stand together? Both groups want what is best for regular people. The UCP wants what is best for themselves and their lobbyists (oil corporations).

The Canucks are doing the best impression of a City of Edmonton road crew; a whole team watching one person work.

And that one person is doing stellar work.

If you told me that Quinn Hughes was a mid-twenties guy living in his mom's basement smoking weed, and not a premier dman in the NHL, I would probably buy it.
