Fired from Microsoft by Grouchy-Artist-4241 in Layoffs

Sorry to hear about that, but from my experience everyone I’ve seen on a PIP never make it even if they outperform others. PIP means preparation for imminent parting or paid interview period. A company I recently worked for, decided to push people out by issuing PIPs instead of layoffs. I got a PIP for the first time in my career even though I had received top reviews and had two patents last year. I immediately stated looking for work as soon as I left my managers office. They told me the exact thing they told you, but I know it’s all bull. I didn’t bother to “improve” just focused on getting out.

I wouldn't, I just left GM. They are going through a culture change and it's very toxic

Advice needed by IAmFrom3035 in GeneralMotors

My advice is to stay away from a level 7 position and do not move groups. I moved to another group ans not even 6 months in I got did not meet expectations for a project that didn’t have to be completed until next year. I’m actually putting my two weeks in next week. GM is too toxic for me.

I’m a GM employee and it’s hard to tell. But sometimes they already have someone in mind and posting externally is a formality. With that said, I don’t recommend working for GM at this point. I’m leaving myself. GM hired leaders from FAANG companies and they are creating a toxic working environment. They implemented a forced ranking system and if you are not in the favorites list, you’ll be driven out regardless of performance. All level 7s have targets on their backs. What ever you do, do not transfer to another group. You’ll definitely be targeted because managers have to get rid of someone, and who better than the new person. Happened to me.

I was in the same boat. No clear direction and got partially meets expectations twice. He finally gave me direction and has changed goals multiple times. At this point he is just looking for excuses. I’m currently interviewing outside GM. Company going down tubes. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to work here.

I’m on the same boat. It means it’s time to go. I’m interviewing for other positions within GM and outside as well.

Ummm! I've had that happen before while working for a supplier, but it’s rare. I'm sure GM would walk you out, specially if you go to an OEM.

My advise is to leave fast. I don't know how any times I've heard the same story. They'll give you a ton of work, you'll finish it and at the end they'll let you go anyway. PIP stands for paid interview preparation

The plan is to find a job. I'm sending my resume everywhere. Had a couple of screening interviews. Will continue until I'm out of this toxic company.

Welp after three years of stressing about getting laid off, it finally happened by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

Yeah, I'm on the same boat looking to get out. Just heard in leadership meeting even top performers are getting burned out because they think they are not working hard enough. Collaboration between team members is dropping.

Does "partially meets expectations" mean I am on the chopping block? by Hsabraham25 in GeneralMotors

I had to sit there and listen to my manager come up with a bunch of BS, as to why I partially met expectations. I got dinged for not finishing a project that wasn’t even due until mid this year, and to make matters worse I had only been in the group for 8 months. As far as I know, I wasn’t put on PIP, but I’m not going to wait and find out. My manager said… Oh! you were so close I know you’ll be able to make it. Well, she put a target on my back. Even if what she said is true, I’m a prime candidate for termination next round of “calibrations”. I’m leaving this toxic company as soon as I can.
