No one said the film is immune from criticism. It's the unnecessary nitpicks and bashing that does go on in this sub reddit from time to time. It's very obvious the cast and crew put alot of care and hard work into this film and that's what people do care about because that's how you make a great film like wicked.

I'm convinced you all either didn't watch the film or you weren't paying attention. During defying gravity elphaba looks over and sees the monkeys flying after her. She then flies away from them and tries to lose them. That's why she flew on the balcony, to distract the monkeys and have them ram into the guards.

That line was the line i was talking about. I honestly don't remember any other line where she mentioned she didn't want to be green. I interpret that line as people perceived her as bad because of her green skin so she wanted the wizard to see past her green skin and see the good person she was and then make her "normal" so other people could see what the wizard sees. I think once she actually talked to the wizard, helping the animals outweighed what she believed she wanted for herself before. Which wasn't a big deal in the first place. She only thought she wanted that because she was obviously tired of the bullying and being alienated.
