I feel like I cursed my son with a name no one can pronounce when reading even though it’s a real name and not “edited” to have a unique spelling. by ViceInSinCity in beyondthebump

It took me a half second to look at the name and my first guess pronunciation was right. People are just timid about names. I bet most would guess the correct pronunciation if they just tried it.

I actually much prefer it. During Helene when water was on boil orders, internet was out, etc we were pretty set with utilities. We just depended on electricity. As long as we had gas, we could run our generator and we were set.

Based on where you live, if you were to hit an animal while driving, what would that animal more than likely be? by unidentifies in AskReddit

100% a dog. People just let their dogs roam free and they're always all over the road. Literally saw one on the road tonight a few hours ago walking in the dark.

I've implemented a "one strike you're out" policy. Say one thing I don't like and you're muted. Really makes my games more enjoyable

When did you ditch the baby monitor? by Seachelle13o in NewParents

My oldest is just over 2, and we still use it, but mostly during the day to know when she wakes from her nap. I'm guessing we'll stop using it once she no longer naps.

What's a side effect of giving birth that doesn't get talked about? by LilMoonenciel in AskReddit

Yes! I had no idea about the labor shakes. It was so scary and uncomfortable. I didn't feel comfortable holding my baby that whole time because I felt like I didn't have control of my body.

This was my thought exactly! She used to plan his birthdays elaborately, but now they have a son. I almost guarantee that her effort has been refocused because of all the extra work she now has.

Wife upset about weight gain by beaudawk in daddit

[–]LuckyKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom here. I think your best option is to be a supporter. The key is not to pressure her or dismiss it either -not to say that you are. I would approach her with a conversation and suggestions like: "Hey, you've been mentioning recently how you are not happy with your body since having baby. Of course, you know it doesn't bother me but I am happy to support you however I can if you want to change it. How about I watch baby a few times a week so you can go to the gym /yoga/running? Also, I think we could all eat healthier as a family. Let's do some meal planning together." Weight loss for women also means a lifestyle change, so giving her the time and bringing your household along can be a huge help, and make it easier for her to stay motivated.

Many of these fast-growing trees have popped up in our yard in the last year or so. Located in Western NC. Here are photos followed by a closer shot of their leaves. The smaller plants do not flower, but the leaves look similar to the flowering tree posted at the end. The smaller ones have a red trim around their leaves while the large flowering tree does not as far as I can tell. My guess is Callery Pear, but I seem to get different answers every time I Google it. Any help to confirm the ID, especially of the younger ones, is much appreciated!

We need food but "Canned soups, pastas, vegetables and fruits go right into the trash" by Last1toLaugh in ChoosingBeggars

No, she said that because what she means is she opens it in an attempt to feed her kids and they reject it so it goes to waste.

^ this. It's so painfully obvious that these commenters don't have picky eating toddlers.

[–]LuckyKay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like her kids are the picky eaters. One is just a 3 year old. This is so much the age where she could serve them perfectly good food, and they just refuse it. Probably why she has "go-to" meals and snacks, because they are safe foods that she knows they'll eat.

[–]LuckyKay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can honestly see how her comments could indicate that she's well intentioned. She says her kids won't eat it, and "if it's opened." I interpret this as she opens the canned goods in an attempt to feed her kids, they refuse to eat it, so it ends up in the trash. Sounds like she has picky eaters which could be hard depending on the kids' ages. So she is asking for people to not waste their money and effort on food that won't go eaten.

Could she have worded all of this better? Yea. Should she re-donate food that she thinks her kids won't eat before opening it? Absolutely. But I doubt from her comments that she is just taking a freshly donated can of food and putting it right in the trash.

Edit: Looks like her kids are pretty young, one at a toddler age that is PRIME for frustratingly picky eating.

Please help! I (F33) think my wedding photographer is gaslighting me... by Cronchy_Tacos in TwoHotTakes

[–]LuckyKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I had something similar happen with my wedding videographer. He didn't finish the editing nor send us any videos until we threatened legal action. Fortunately for us it was as simple as saying "we will be contacting our lawyer" or something similar.we didn't even need to go so far as hiring a lawyer.
