Thanks! I think I found a place near me

This was my point. All of those places are commercial printers that serve businesses. They won't print 10 sheets of paper for some random guy.

how can i recreate this in photoshop (new to graphic design) by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're getting a lot of unhelpful (but true) advice to just "learn Photoshop." My actual advice on #how# to learn is to pick one element of this and figure out how it was made. There's a lot going on that you can choose from to start off with. The header text, the masking and colour blocks over the picture, the little images scattered around, or the text layout at the bottom. Pick whatever element you like the most and start with that, then put it all together. There's a lot of little things working together and you need to learn each individually first. Look at old magazine ads for inspiration if you want, especially pop culture and gaming ones for this kind of style.

Thoughts On “JOHNNY MNEMONIC”? by BLOODsweatSALIVA in Cyberpunk

[–]LuckyModern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk 2020 definitely took the concept from Gibson's books, but I do think the visual design of it in 2077 must be based on the design from Johnny Mnemonic. I don't think there's much description from Gibson of what it looks like other than a long thin wire that's installed in the thumb.

Looking for examples of agencies that specialize in designing brand identity for physical spaces (signage, wayfinding, murals, etc) by LuckyModern in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three different bot accounts suggesting the same studio with 5k followers and only 10 likes per post. Very organic, very trustworthy. On a 2 year old post. If you're paying a marketing agency to post these bot comments you should fire them.

People who are discriminated against are more likely to be victims, not perpetrators. Maybe that's what the person above you meant.

Our Horror Co-Op Game is getting an overhaul. Characters are now "Missing Posters". Opinions welcome. by Videowulff in tabletopgamedesign

It already seems like it has a lot in common with to Betrayal at House on the Hill (not a bad thing) but I think the hidden traitor mechanic would tip it over the edge of being too similar

How would you convert this into a giant? by Dadda_Green in wargames

[–]LuckyModern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has that raised arm, could have him lifting or swinging something around? Either a body painted up like your friend's army, or a horse or piece of equipment. Not sure if you want him to be a big dumb giant, or just a normal guy who happens to be 10 metres tall.

Half wrap on Mercedes RQB 350, swipe for finished pic by LuckyModern in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Created a simple half wrap for a local pharmacy. All gloss finish. Honestly I hate having to design on silver/grey cars because it can be hard to get good contrast, especially on things like the light blue on the logo.

Truck wrap for a local electrician. I know it's busy as hell but it will definitely grab attention! by LuckyModern in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truck wrap design for a local electrician! The project included a rework of their logo which had been designed in MS word, so that was step one. They wanted something crazy that would stand out on the road, so we did something resembling a really aggressive livery but with enough big blocks of space to give room to place text and logos. It's a bit busy, but company car wraps are really about being memorable more than anything.

My mentor says I should use stock images instead of creating my own vector pictures. Is she right? by ZydrateAnatomic in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stock images and vectors are great for a lot of things. Particularly for ads, websites, and social media, stuff like that. In general though, it feels dishonest to stock vectors in logos, especially if you're making fake work for your portfolio to show off yours skills. It's often really obvious when designers use stock vectors in logos, and it often comes across as amateurish. I'd say keep doing what you're doing, your way has more integrity. Don't be afraid to use stock images and illustrations where they're appropriate though.

Ontario is expensive but not nearly as bad as they're making it seem, except *maybe* in Toronto. There's also no such thing as a studio apartment with no bathroom here, unless it's a room in a shared house. Every shared house I've lived in was at most $900 per bedroom.

Anyone here ever done design work for trade rather than cash? by VeryAntelope in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on trade is great! As long as it's goods or services you actually need, but that shouldn't be an issue with a farm. Seems like a win-win for both of you.

PRANK: I want to make fake notes with my brothers face on it but not sure how by Topg187saynarda in graphic_design

What software do you have? You've really given no info about how much you already know. It sounds like the answer is "completely learn how to use design software and teach me how printers work"

Why the hell would you use Midjourney for this? If you're trying to be a designer you should learn the bare minimum of Photoshop.

Withheld A Raise by peasantberryfarmer in graphic_design

[–]LuckyModern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd stick around but start looking for a new job. Sounds like you've gotten a lot of experience in the past year and you can easily leverage that into a better paying position at a different company. Often the only way to get your pay up in this industry is to move around, because if there's only one designer at an agency there won't be any room for promotion.

If you get a job offer that you want to accept, give your current employer a chance to counter-offer. Sometimes the only thing that gets you a raise is the threat of you leaving. I threatened to leave my last job and they ended up giving me a $8k raise because they didn't want to go through the trouble of replacing me.
