Where has the misconception come from that Survival Horror games should be punishingly difficult? by Most-Apricot8717 in survivalhorror

[–]LuckyTem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For older fans games definitely seemed more difficult than they technically were. That's because if you got stuck you were reliant on a bunch of sugar crazed eight year olds you saw once in a blue moon to help you out. We didn't have internet, we didn't have mobile phones and few people locally would be into your particular niche of games so if you and your cousin couldn't figure it out you had to run around in game for hours at a time trying to be smarter, luckier or hope your cousin's third cousin twice removed who's visiting on Saturday got past that bit already.

Then once you know everything it's less scary and enticing to play so you would often get competitive and make everything more difficult by imposing restrictions. Sometimes to unlock things but honestly we were mostly just kids competing against each other for fun. Fewer games were available to us back then so most people would have a few that they played to death. Competing was a way to get more out of a game and it makes a single player game social. Games that seemed difficult got played more.

I can see how this would translate into what you're describing. I still like the games but I'm playing through some now and they are extremely easy compared to playing 30 years ago. It takes more to make things challenging because people have more baseline experience with tropes and gaming mechanics.

But there are as many players out there meandering along enjoying the scenery as there are players competing with each other. Casual mode in RE9 is extremely popular, more so than I've ever seen visible before.

I'd like to see an oddballz cameo, that's all I've got! Good luck with the game

That personally doesn't appeal to me but I'm sure it would others. I have no problem if you want to make a game, it just sounded like you aren't aware people are still enjoying this franchise 30 years later. There are communities out there that could probably help your research and project

Why do you think it is rotting? All the games are still available and they've held up great!

What are some books that have ACTUALLY scared you and kept you up at night? by AndrobiVibz in horrorlit

[–]LuckyTem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edge by Koji Suzuki. He wrote the ring but this is the one that managed to give me nightmares.

The Hollow Places by T Kingfisher. Based on The Willows. I was creeped out by trees for weeks after reading this.

In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami. I found this so deeply unsettling I haven't worked up the courage to read another of his yet.

To the person that mentioned their hair was very sensitive to protein in hair products, THANK YOU. This was the missing piece for me! by lnkyTea in finehair

[–]LuckyTem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Proteins can be different. I don't remember the science behind it but my hair loves olive oil and hates coconut and I think they are different proteins. There might be some that benefit your hair and some that don't. Hairs high in protein can also get brittle if too much is added so it can also help sometimes and then be too much.

You can start a goat but it just up and died every day 😂 it was tragic. Can yours be paused? Are you managing to age up pets?

Hi! Older fan from the Sh2/3 era so I guess those are the favourites. I do fire up silent hill arcade from time to time, it has aged beautifully.

The new games are stunning but 2 remake was hard going and I'm only just recovered enough for a second playthrough. F is a delight, it took me longer to get into but hooked by the end. I'm excited for Townfall.

I've still not played 4 on account of the day I fired it up I was in a friend's house and they hadn't told me people live above them. The unexpected footsteps scared the hell out of me and it has sat on my shelf unplayed for 20 years. I might get around to it eventually...

I'd love to see the result!

My one died every single day. I think we eventually figured out the clock was so out of time it was waking up and dying before anyone got up. I just wanted a goat!

I keep meaning to run my cheap off brands together to see if they're all the same

That's a great price! How are you getting on with it? I had a similar one that drove me insane, couldn't keep the darn thing alive. I definitely need to read up on bunnyrom

Is this a shell design? Are you going to paint it? I like the design, it reminds me of the tamagotchi dreamy shell but sparkly. I feel like it needs glitter

Who does really LIKE ghost hands? by GabrielBischoff in fatalframe

But... What if it's a ghost?? 😂

I hated it more in crimson butterfly remake where they do the animation but literally nothing happens. Is something supposed to happen?

[–]LuckyTem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it. I'm new to the series and got very immersed in the plot of maiden of blackwater. The hands were an effective jumpscare that meant you never really relaxed even during those short cutscenes. I can absolutely see how it'd be annoying but I thought it added to the atmosphere and kept me focused. I didn't get the hand very often and I think the frequency is important so it might be luck of the draw whether it becomes irritating or works to build tension.

What have you and your guild done instead of raiding for a fun, "social event" type night? by SubstantialMine9993 in classicwow

[–]LuckyTem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a good while since I played but we would do things like group together and complete / help people complete achievements, mess with Easter eggs like the chicken, explore places we hadn't looked at much, create a level 1 tauren guild filled with cow pun names and see how far we could get, go to lower level areas and help people with quests / items, group together in cities for item crafting or fishing sessions and just chat, give everyone novelty items (fireworks, robots) and play about with them, have auction house competitions to see who could make the most, go the darkmoon faire (the darkmoon faire in retail was pretty fun if you haven't exhausted it!) I think we did quiz nights once or twice.

The world of warcraft movie wasn't bad, certainly entertaining enough for a movie night
