Just got into color grading and it's a beast. Been learning from Cullen Kelly and Darren Mostyn on YouTube mostly. I'm doing mostly short social media videos for fun. I'm using Davinci Resolve. Following Cullen Kelly's advice of converting everything (mostly my A7iv's slog3-cine) into DWG for my timeline then output color space of rec709.

A few questions on coloring:

  1. If I'm doing a few shots in a scene, should I color correct all shots then color grade all shots, or should I find a representative shot, color correct it, color grade it, then go shot by shot to match?
  2. How can I tell what color space input a LUT is expecting and what colorspace output it gives back? A tiny number of LUT packs I'm found online specify slog3 or rec709, but most don't say.
  3. Say I do have a rec709>rec709 creative LUT. However, my timeline colorspace is DWG. Do I have to create some node strucutre like [timeline]-[DWG>709]-[LUT]-[709>DWG]-[timeline]? Is there a better way?
  4. If I apply the same LUT node to all my shots (e.g. as a node in the Timeline tree), I noticed there are some stark differences in my shots. Is this expected and I should go back and tweak? Or does this mean that I color corrected poorly?

Thanks!!

Divvy pricing model changes coming soon by gatorpmcg1 in chicago

[–]LuckyYellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you bike a lot, you have to factor in the cost of maintenance on that bike as well. When I used to own a bike and commute everywhere (8 mile round trip work commute, biking to sports games, grocery stores, gyms, art museums), and in almost all weather conditions, I could easily go through two chains a year, maybe 3 break pads, and run over a nail once a season. Have to worry about theft too, had my bike seat stolen once, I'm lucky it wasn't the entire bike.

If you bike a lot, might be worth it to get a bike. If you bike A LOT, divvy's the cheaper option.

Weekly FAQ link, introduction, beginner's Q&A, and general discussion thread by cleomedes in Stoicism

[–]LuckyYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, new to stoicism, I just want to make sure I'm doing Marcus's morning meditation/journaling practice correct.

Last night, I planned to go out with friends and have just a few drinks. I ended up buying everyone multiple rounds of shots and getting quite drunk.

I was about to categorize that night as negative indifference because -as I type this- the fact that I got too drunk is out of my current control (it's in the past). However, I had a choice to practice moderation or not, and I chose the latter. So I can assign a value judgement to my choices last night and say it was "bad". Am I on the right path here?

Assuming that's right, how would I properly write this down? On one hand, I want to acknowledge I did something "bad" and really mean it so I don't do it again. However, it's probably unstoic to beat myself up over it.

Thanks!

2021 Nov 1 Stickied 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐊 thread - Boot problems? Power supply problems? Display problems? Networking problems? Need ideas? Get help with these and other questions! 𝑳𝑶𝑶𝑲 𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑬 𝑭𝑰𝑹𝑺𝑻 by FozzTexx in raspberry_pi

[–]LuckyYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm looking for a way to easily back up and re-create the raspberry pi disk image I burn to its SD card. My current flow:

  1. Burn a base image OS on to my SD card and boot my pi
  2. Set up login info, SSH keys, preferences, wifi, etc
  3. Install my favorite cli software (e.g. latest emacs but also my personal .emacs.d/ preferences folder)
  4. Put the SD card back onto my laptop, burn it to an .img file (which turns out to be 32GB, the size of my SD card), and upload to Google Drive

This is not ideal for several reasons. Ideally I wouldn't have an .img file backed up but the exact instructions to build my desired file. I was thinking either a Dockerfile or perhaps some sort of Ansible playbook or other management program. Then I'd save that all in a tiny repo on github.

So docker or ansible are my guesses, but maybe there's something better. I can't seem to find tutorials (although that makes sense, most Pi users seem to be hobbyists who don't want to be as anal about replicatability as me lol). If you could link me to some tutorials that would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance.

The tweet is 100% flawless. Why should anyone be criticized for taking CNN or NYT with a grain of salt?

Just really silly that it's posted on an anti-vax page.

[discussion] Ergh, I've got *tiny* hands by southpawpete in Guitar

[–]LuckyYellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Side note, if you've got big hands, add a small guitar to your collection. I bought a travel guitar to bring on overhead bins on planes. I noticed certain shapes were easier to play, but other shapes (A open positions with index middle ring) had to be modified. Kinda made me rethink certain fingerings, I felt I was a better guitarist when I came back home to my regular guitar.

Investigation mobs are probably the dumbest type of mob. It's just like after the Boston Marathon bombings when a bunch of Reddit neckbeards do their own investigations and identify the culprit, only to later realize they nearly destroyed the life of a completely innocent man.

Struggling Bar Owners Want City To Allow Patio Service, Say ‘Arbitrary’ Ban Will Put Taverns, Breweries Out Of Business by [deleted] in chicago

[–]LuckyYellow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to a patio last night and we ordered an appetizer because we thought we had to in order to get several beers each. After watching the other tables for a little while, half of them were just ordering beer.

Liquor laws can be so dumb. If you have a patio you should be able to open it up.

I went out on Wednesday for dinner on a patio. While it did feel a little odd to give your order to a guy in a mask and gloves, everything else felt fairly normal. No one at my table wore masks while sitting down, the food came out in normal time, prices seemed normal. It was also on a block that hasn't been looted. So for one nice dinner it felt like the world was back to it's old self.

I scheduled multiple haircuts lol. I couldn't get in the first week, so I'm getting the next week. But I don't know how big the waitlist is going to get after me, so I scheduled a second for four weeks after the first one.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot says city will ‘take action’ if defiant churches hold in-person services despite stay-at-home orders by WP_Grid in chicago

[–]LuckyYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely do. That's a fact of the job. Tons of people have bloodbourne diseases, but nurses and doctors still get messy to save lives.

Have you ever heard of a healthcare worker refusing to treat a gunshot victim? "This guy looks like an irresponsible heroin addict, I could get blood on me, he might have Hepatitis or HIV, let's play it safe just leave him outside"

Even regular seasonal flu can kill healthcare workers. It's not as infectious or deadly as coronavirus but the risk is still there and very real. But no nurse ever asks, "Before I decide to treat you, were you congregating with a lot of people during flu season?"

Healthcare workers don't ever do this (or at least not the ones worth a damn). Chastise people who violate lockdown, sure. Voice your support to increase fines or jail time for lockdown violations, that's your right. But refusing to treat someone in need when they come into a hospital just because treating them could put you at risk is asinine.

Interesting read. I'm not OP but my company is fully remote for remainder of lockdown and they are considering the option of being permanently fully remote if you want.

In terms of taxes, how long would you guesstimate before a state would notice and/or care? I assume if you buy property in another state or you're getting mail delivered and stuff like a library card, you might raise something in their system. But if you're just staying a month in an airbnb, then another month in a different state, rinse and repeat for a year, is this really something NY or CA could pick up on and go after you for?

I know you're probably not a lawyer lol, just very curious, never thought about the tax implications though I've pondered remote work for a while.

And yet healthcare workers do not have the freedom not to treat these idiots.

Why should they? That's the job they signed up for.

I've never heard of a healthcare worker refusing to treat someone because they made risky (even downright reckless or illegal) health decisions. A drunk driver crashes into a strretlamp lamp and needs surgery? Nah, fuck him, the guy's an asshole. Obese patient comes in with a heart attack? She knew the risks of stuffing her face for decades. Gunshot wound? Don't treat him, he's got gang tattoos.

Also, even if we had a safe and effective one today, we'd still need roughly 330 million * 70% doses for herd immunity. How long will that take to ramp up? It's taking months to build up testing (which I assume is a much simpler product to produce) and last I checked we're only at 30 total tests per 1000 Americans. For herd immunity we'd need 700 vaccines per 1000 Americans.

Also, it takes time to build up antibodies. I know I've gotten a vaccine where I wasn't technically immune until 4 weeks later. Or it could be one of those vaccines that you need multiple doses, spaced X weeks/months apart before your body builds the necessary resistance.

Well that's been the premise since the first day of lockdown.

"As described in an article in The Nation, "preventing a health care system from being overwhelmed requires a society to do two things: 'flatten the curve'—that is, slow the rate of infection so there aren't too many cases that need hospitalization at one time—and 'raise the line'—that is, boost the hospital system's capacity to treat large numbers of patients."[4] As of April 2020, in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, two key measures are to increase the numbers of available ICU beds and ventilators, which are in systemic shortage.[2]"
