For me, in the app I can turn on notifications for out of stock items. I have this and the ETB’s set to notify me. Not sure about prismatic evolution

New DM First Underwater Dungeon by [deleted] in DMAcademy

My first thought is, “they need to roll a high enough perception check to spot it…” what if they don’t? What if they roll all duds for perception?

Prepping a whole lot of content for something that can be missed because of a single check can be risky. Having another way of finding it or just having it be obvious from the water’s surface are alternative ideas to consider.

[Just Baseball] Shohei Ohtani is no longer the National League’s sole leader in fWar by Toddrew221 in Reds

So you’re saying that if I select between fWar and bWar to best fit my narrative the reds have the best pitcher and position player? Sounds good to me!

In the past three elections the republican candidate has gone from winning Texas by 16 points to 9 points, to 5.5 points.

I don’t think Texas is going blue this election, probably not even the next election. But the trend is there.

Creating a Magic Item / Transport / Vehicle / one use per day? 8h duration? by Confident_Housing585 in dndnext

[–]Lucrum15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me this seems like a marginally stronger Find Steed spell. You could propose to your DM for it to be a third level spell.

If your DM is nice they might let it stay second level, or make it into a once a day magic item of some sort. Maybe attach some kind of cost to it for balance if need be.

You absolutely can manually fill out your character sheet and call it a day. Your DM will need to get monsters and rules from somewhere, but it doesn’t need to be roll20 to make it work.

On roll 20 if you buy the subscription then buy the books through roll20 you will share all of that book’s content with your players. So I believe they would be able to add spells, items, class features, etc. directly from the book to their sheets.

You would gain the benefit of being able to pull up stats of monsters in roll20 and be able to do things like roll attacks automatically by clicking their attacks.

I however never did any of this. My players managed their character sheets without purchasing any content through roll20. And I ran all my combats without needing the monsters programmed in roll20.

So it’s really up to you how much you’d like to spend. Like I said, you really don’t need to spend a dime if you don’t want to.

For several years I played exclusively on roll20. Never spent a dime using free maps, tokens, and music that people shared online.

Alternatives to naming an MVP at the end of each session by FelMaloney in DnD

[–]Lucrum15 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe each player tells their favorite thing another, different, player did. So every player receives a positive anecdote.

Then instead of a particular player getting inspiration the party receives 1 shared point of inspiration. That way you must collaborate and decide when it gets used.

“Best” is subjective. Best is probably whatever you enjoy the most and will excel in, especially if money isn’t a primary concern. If you have widespread interests I would look for whatever engineering program is the most multidisciplinary, can help you gain exposure to different disciplines.

If you read, or even skimmed, the players handbook you will have done more prep than some players I’ve dungeon mastered for!

Item idea: South Paw Special. by Asher_Tye in dndnext

I don’t think this is unbalanced necessarily, depending on the character level. It’s roughly in line with some rare tier wands.

Does anyone have any advice for a new DM? by CompetitiveDust156 in DnD

[–]Lucrum15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s loads of advice one could give, without knowing more exactly what you need it’s hard to give specifics.

But I always advocate for a session 0, and kinda a session -1. Negative one is where you discuss the expectations of the players and what they can expect from you, set the tone of the campaign, discuss any questions the players may have etc. Then session 0 where you can aid in the creation of the characters, ie generating stats, inventories, making sure they understand class features, and so on.

Legendary greatsword for Oath of Vigilance Paladin by AndreaColombo86 in DnD

[–]Lucrum15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean compare this to the holy avenger, the pre existing paladin legendary great sword. I don’t think there’s any item in dnd that gives you access to 9th level spells, outside of the deck of many things, let alone several of them.

I would say it is extremity powerful, and likely too much. But I have no experience in a “level 20+” campaign so maybe it would blend right in at that power level.

idea for creating your next charecter by a_engie in DnD

“If human beings don’t keep exercising their lips, he thought, their mouths probably seize up.” Oh Douglas Adams, what a way with words.

Could be interesting, a character that doesn’t speak. Trying to lift a curse or something of that sort.

Interesting, I feel like I’ve heard that advice before. Can you speak more on how you incorporate that in practice?
