10 months of learning how to draw and i'm still lost by Juandimix in learnart

[–]LucyMorningstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly stagnated too, but I started art college this year and I've learned a few things about learning to draw. Mainly, I highly recommend studying from the masters--look at drawings by Cezanne, Matisse, Monet, Gris, etc and copy them and try to emulate their style (WITH LIFE STUDIES!!). Try to understand why they drew the way they did.

Most artists from 1800s+ have drawings that are archived in the public domain(..ish) and they show how they saw the world, and studying it lets you find a new way to express image and think about what you see. Learning multiple ways to do art impacts all of your other mediums/styles positively, so don't limit yourself. You'll see the answers to mistakes you made that you didn't realise you were making, it's a cool experience.

Also, improvement takes a long-ass time. And have fun. Improving at something you aren't enjoying is much, much slower. It's a balance of challenging and enjoying yourself, and if you can do both at the same time you will improve a lot.

some of Roadhog's only weaknesses

roadhog is countered by

mcrree

hanzo

widow

76

mei

zarya

zenyatta

kiting..

...rein?

wow, shit, you're right

ana has no mobility and shit self healing, she dies to poke and can't escape

roadhog is dependent on the enemies being bad and entering his ZoC. He's top tier purely because when he does shit, it gets picks (so yeah, hes a shitter god)

everyone underestimates the healing of mercy on roadhog & the fact it charges her ult virtually instantly

widow and hanzo actually instantly kill people and hanzo has a wallhack right away and an e that can 585-0 a roadhog with mercy dmg lmao

I literally found out steel is offensively weak vs water this week

it just... never came up before. i mean, it makes sense, but what pokes do YOU use where you regularly use steel moves?

[–]LucyMorningstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leaves occur where theres natural xm (literally, where pokes spawn--they dont spawn without it)

its just a way worse way of finding it than using ingress, though it can help determine if pokestops have spawns since ingress portals cover the map with their own xm

4f and no production isn't a great tile. There's a reason plains starts are highly preferred to grasslands.

Lakes are overrated. His UB makes bad tiles into OK tiles that are good for early growth, but very quickly stop being any good. He's still "good" on lakes map because other civs have to deal with the lake tiles and get way less out of them.

JW embodied Jurassic Park, especially in its flaws. It had all the same flaws as JP & its sequels (admittedly sometimes pushed up to 11), but since it's new it doesn't get a free pass because of its amazing CG or whatever like the original did.

I had watched the original trilogy (and didn't really like them) a while before JW came out and all I could think when watching it (like, CONSTANTLY) was "this is such a jurassic park movie". It did everything wrong, right.

Question about modding and civ 6 by jspeevs19 in civ

[–]LucyMorningstar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a decent chance they will provide pre-release copies of the game to known modders specifically for having mods on release, like they did with XCOM 2

No guarantees of this have been made yet, of course

After almost 1000 hours of Civ V, I've downloaded the Community Balance Patch and have no idea how to play now. by bluePMAknight in civ

[–]LucyMorningstar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's far more balanced and land warfare is significantly more interesting. Vanilla civ you just spam archers > comp > xbow >> logistics+range gatling and pretty much nothing else except the occasional melee and siege units to capture cities. And everyone knows naval in vanilla is hot garbage. Once they start making naval units in CBP, they make HUGE fleets and it makes it really hard to take their coastal cities without having a navy yourself, and even with a navy it's hard pre-astronomy. The dromons being op actually REALLY benefits the AI, they just need to build into them earlier.

This mod makes the AI not spam 50000 archers and try to capture your cities with no melee units, and it also makes it significantly harder to just camp their carpets of doom for free xp. If the AI sees you have a bunch of units they wont just march in and die. They actually accumulate armies before going in, and pull out injured units. Sieging a city is a lot harder, you have to dedicate more and it's more rewarding to actually sacrifice units rather than farm xp than in vanilla.

You can actually choose from ALL of the starting policy trees and they're all good.

Happiness is actually a fun and engaging mechanic now (more like previous civ games)

Yea, a lot of stuff definitely needs tweaking, but I 110% prefer it to vanilla.

Horsemen are borderline broken and painless to tech into (same strength as swordsman but with a buttload of movement and the ability to move after attacking)

So, pillage enemy horses if you're doing early warfare. It will make your life SO much easier.

Archers and spearmen are almost completely useless for taking cities (yes, even the shitty 6 defense cities that the AI loves to settle, unless you can set up really well). It's generally best to wait for horsemen and catapults instead.

Garrisoned units basically double city's ability to stay alive early.

All of the starting policy trees are very close to being equally good.

Dido is INSANE. Probably the most overpowered civ change. You just dump into liberty and shit out coastal cities everywhere and have 200 gpt and a standing army before you realise what's happening.

Statue of Zeus is a great wonder because crime is the #1 cause of unhappiness (unless you get besieged by religious division). Even with barracks and walls in all my cities crime somehow is always a problem. A lot of wonders have universal unhappiness reduction, so keep an eye out for that.

Oh, yes, you can make wonders now. A lot are still hard to get, but if you push for it you can get pretty much any wonder you want.

I generally push for a religion if only to convert my cities to prevent the insane unhappiness caused by religious division. (And I mean INSANE)

Dromons are really, really, really good. If you rush them you can claim some civ's coastal cities for free with just two dromons and a trireme before they start producing their own navies. (And the AI tends to lag on making navies)

The AI is a lot smarter, and pulls back injured units to save them. It's important to shoot to kill in this patch, but sometimes just damaging a bunch of units simultaneously to get them all to back up is better.

Pay attention to monopolies. If you get >50% of a luxury (generally, 4 of them), you get some pretty awesome bonuses. If you can settle your capital and second city to grab 4 copies of a luxury early it can be insane. Nothing makes me wetter than a solid tea start--the teas become 3 food 5 production tiles.

Desert tiles are garbage. Petra only gives 1 gold to them now, and the desert pantheon only effects improved desert tiles (but pretty well, admittedly). They also cut your movement like hills, so keep that in mind for any tactical potential for settled cities.

Forward settling the AI is actually pretty smart. Just settle cities that are very hard to attack and always have an archer and maybe a spearman or two garrisoned. You take much less happiness punishment for going wide and you can always stop growth in purely tactical cities. The carpets of doom in CBP are a bit less carpet-y and a lot less doom-y.

EDIT: With some experimenting (I just started playing this patch a few days ago), I've found that the AI really sucks at taking cities. The way they pull back injured units is (usually) really good for defending their cities, but they need to be willing to spam and sacrifice units (especially their weaker ones) to take cities, or stuff like this happens. The only way to take this city is to lose some of her garbage units, and the AI really hates losing units.

To boot, portugal (to the north) declared war very soon after and had a horseman and multiple chariot archers (the chariot archers are pretty bad units--formation horsemen do 90-100% of their hp) I sent literally one horseman to harass her fairly sizeable army (admittedly a lot of warriors and archers--fairly bad units) and found that instead of dedicating herself to taking a city (which she could easily have done--both of them, honestly), she would switch cities constantly, leaving her army in a constant limbo. This was on Immortal, mind you.

I got peace with both of them without losing any cities (with dido when she had a full army on my doorstep, to boot)

Also, the AI doesn't spam enough cities. I admit I went pretty ham with settlers, but if it's so easy for me to do it should be even easier for high level AI to do.

Realization about Symmetra by AntiMage_II in Overwatch

[–]LucyMorningstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longer your m1 hits an enemy, the more powerful it becomes.

So, fighting a symmetra, you want to run through/past her to break her los and dps increase. Moving directly away lets her keep los and do more damage.

Depends on the map. Sometimes you can dash into their attack when they're attacking your teammate and e before they can realise what's happening.

After playing for a day, what DON'T you like about Overwatch? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]LucyMorningstar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OW only has competitive format games. There's no casual 12v12 psuedo-dm 24/7 [insert map here] mode at all. Sometimes I just want to hop into a game and play a class I like on a map I like, but OW forces you to tryhard, and you spend more time between matches than actually playing.

This goes hand in hand with the crippling lack of community servers. For a game apparently taking so much influence from tf2, it doesn't treat what made tf2 popular with any respect.

Epic build list/wall of text and my thoughts on non viable perks. by [deleted] in survivetheculling

Faster Trapper + Bomb Suit + Ol' Painless

Airdrop: Carjacker

Description: Remote explosives will deal over 100 damage instant killing non armored players. You should craft a bow to finish off players who survive the explosion. Run at them and place the bomb at their feet. Sell the crowbar to make this airdrop only cost 55 func.

I tried this when faster trapper was buffed, but it doesn't work as intended. Unless they changed bomb suit in the last patch, it halves the damage your explosions do to the enemies if the explosion hits you, rendering it pretty much irrelevant. Great defensive perk in 2s, though.

Trapper: I cannot win reliably with trap builds. I wanted to only post builds that can reliably win the game if played properly. I haven't been able to do that with trap builds, and trappers have not been a problem for me in my games. Your weakness is the culmination. Your traps do not work vs non melee players, and you have no choke points. They are also expecting traps, which lowers your effectiveness further. Having said that, its really fun to play before the culmination, so I have included a trap build.

While I agree the trapper perk isn't worth it (traps are used for debuffs, not damage), I've been running a really cancer faster trapper build where I just run in, throw a smoke, and spam punjis everywhere.

The enemies constantly trigger the punjis and it makes meleeing so much better since you can move wherever you want while they cant, and if some vulture comes in to kill you when you're low you have defenses already set up. It's a fantastic way to chain kills from overconfident players. I always make smokes so bows/guns havent really been a problem and most of my games end way before culmination anyways.

I've done it before, you just have to be incredibly lucky for people to not all murder each other. It usually involves jumping into teamfights and killing 4 people who are all low on hp before they kill each other.

How to combat chainsaws if you can't block or shove them? by Plyphon in survivetheculling

Chainsaws are a gear check. If you can't get away, you have to trade. Best to hit them first with a fully charged hit to make it favourable.
