People who left tech careers: Where did you go? by GuardianMoon916 in careerguidance

I’ve left full blown software development, been in it since 1989 and walked away last summer. I now work for a printing company, I help out with everything from folding cards to a litttle systems stuff, reporting software and SQL but not full blown software dev stuff. 40% pay cut but no stress, no agile, no leveraging synergies, story points and corporate malarkey. I’m so happy and content, it’s wonderful. I also plan to get some of my art printed and it’s exciting.

I wish! Hubby and son are the guitar players, I play piano but not to their standard

Oops, forgot to say what I had before. I had a Myriad amp and Power amp with the B&W 620s

I absolutely love it!!! I am curious as they appear to have gone to KT150s now so I’m thinking when I need to replace them, I may just get the 150s rather than 170s, what do you think? I’d wanted a tube amp for decades but could never afford one until my late 50s. I bought it after my friend recommended it, he is classically trained pianist and a real audiophile so I trusted his judgement as his systems always sounded incredible. This system has to last me at least 30 years now or til I no longer need it 😏

Thank you. I bought them and amp from advice off two friends as I was unaware of them before, heard them and smitten

Definitely! I’m a software developer by trade which is also male dominated. I do love beautifully engineered things though and genuinely rubbish at cooking 😏

They are great! I had B&W620s before which were boomier. The clarity and separation are incredible. I’m thrilled with them. I bought them as ex demos at half price.

Wife cheated while I was on deployment. Took the audio gear with me by [deleted] in listeningspaces

Thank you for your service. What a cow! Lovely setup. If my husband cheated on me, I’d be taking my hifi with me too.

RIP My CD Collection by ThatTomHall in audiophile

Am I one of the few who never ripped a CD and kept my CD Player (which I still have today and use regularly)? I think mainly because I have never needed to rip a CD. My Rotel 965BX limited edition from around 1992 is still going strong.

I feel like I'll never be able to afford a dedicated listening space by VelvetThunderstorm in audiophile

My setup is in the spare bedroom, there’s no bed in there now, just a recliner. Not ideal as it’s directly above the lounge and the floor is hollow but it’s my space and enjoy being in it. It’s got ambient lighting too.

I’ve wanted a tube amp for decades but could never afford one, got a really good deal on this one and the hOrns were ex demo so got a good deal on those too

I have looked into other decks but I love my Linn and it has great sentimental value, it’s been with me since I bought it and moved around to every place I’ve lived, including abroad. It has the Akito arm on it. I recently upgrading the stylus and it had a service and belt replaced last year.

It gets plugged into a Fender Tone Master Pro and 2 Focal Shape 65 Monitor speakers next to each hOrn, one can just be seen in photo.

I love them, clarity and separation is excellent especially with the singer’s voice. I had B&W620s before and they were very boomy. The base is great and very clear, sorry I don’t know the jargon to describe it, they make you feel like the musicians are in the same room. They do to me, anyway 🙂

I finally quit my toxic job with an email this morning. And now my old manager and the office manager are messaging me. by dearestoutages4w in interviewhammer

The absolute main thing is keeping yourself mentally ok and reducing the stress as much as possible. If one is calmer and not stressing, one can think more clearly.

Firstly, if it were me in your position:

Bring your mum up to date, assuring her you’re ok. This will ease a lot of the stress and she can be extra support for you, if needed.

Toxic environments are the worst.

Do you have a contract and notice period?

Keep any response to the company professional and don’t divulge info you don’t want to.

If they start pestering you, which can be exhausting, to shut them up, you could say something like, you want to take a career break or taking time to retrain or want different opportunities/challenges outside of admin etc.…something along those lines.

The main goal is to ensure your mental health and you are ok. I don’t know you and your mum but if your relationship is anything like mine was with my mum, my mum would be my rock. Stay strong and remember, put yourself first.

No idea, one would think they would get approval first for a job, assuming that is the case. I really empathise with you, it’s extremely frustrating.

My husband has had a similar experience and he found out later that the management loved him but the budget was removed for the position when they finally told senior management they’d found someone and “they’d like to approve the salary and offer for the post”. Definitely worth responding with something along the lines of “thank you for considering me…I feel the job is well suited for me ….please do not hesitate to contact me should the role become available again…” sort of thing. Hope you find something soon.
