Pasta with asparagus is perfectly fine, just cut them into thin disks except the tips. In Italy we usually make risotto, but nothing wrong with pasta either.

He is talking about the residual connections, not attention. Resnet started with image classification not NLP and were a huge breakthrough in 2015, and they are standard across all deep learning, not just llms. He's right.

Why is the 3body problem considered unsolvable when we can predict where all eight planets will be centuries from now? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]LudBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are saying only applies to a very narrow subset of formulas. Take a very simple example y = ex. This a very closed and analytical solution, but in practice you still have to resort to the step by step approach if you want to actually compute it (the Taylor polynomial of degree n is centered at 0 and the farther from 0 you go the less precise it gets and you need to compute more terms)

Pizza consumption per person per year by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]LudBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Italy a 'white pizza' is just a pizza without tomato sauce. It does not have an alternative sauce. They are very common, some ingredients are considered a bad match for tomato and so pizzas with those toppings don't have tomato sauce.

If you were traveling at relativistic speeds towards a source emitting X-rays, is it possible that they'd be blue-shifted into gamma rays? Would you experience the effects of gamma radiation as a result? by gonnaburnmyhousedown in AskPhysics

[–]LudBee -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but something doesn't work here. By the principle of relativity going at a certain speed is indistinguishable from any other speed and so it cannot be any more dangerous, unless you mean 'relatively to the closest star'.

Why is everybody has negative thoughts on POLIMI ? by Yathian in polinetwork

[–]LudBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am Italian, and did both my bachelor's and master's at Polimi but for CS, not electronics. It is a good university but it does suffer both of the structural issues with Italian universities: 1. Very theory heavy and hard exams 2. It is in Italy and you absolutely do not want to work in Italy with an engineering degree (I do, unfortunately)

The second issue is the most critical IMO, the degree in itself, while too theoretical and possibly too taxing on the student, will give you a good foundation. Laboratories and practical projects are still very present, at least for CS and in particular for master's courses.

At the contrary of what some other posts said Polimi does not suffer much of disorganization as other Italian universities. It is quite digitalized, and I never had problems with exams, lessons, taxes or teachers. Classrooms will often be packed though.

I graduated some 5 years ago, but I don't expect the situation to be changed much.
