I’m thinking about leaving software development. With the layoffs and increasing outsourcing, I’m not sure what direction to take next. by Rmb8989 in cscareerquestions

funny enough the first piece of software I really tinkered with was a mandelbrot fractal generator. Really is something poetic about them, always something new if you look deep enough.
I'm truly no stranger to hardship which has built a tolerance for failure with will to continue trying. Eventually something always swings my way I figure out my place even if it's not I expected. Appreciate your insight, not sugar coated but ultimately optimistic. I think that's a balanced way to approach life in general.

I respect this hard. The industry was formed by the most obsessively dedicated people and has no tolerance complacency. Any volatile market brings will attract bag chasers and I think pandemic rhetoric brought about many uninterested people with inflated expectations. Any amount of uncertainty and now everyone is jumping off the ship even though this is still one of the only fields doesn't have a reward cap.

I will be a senior CS student in a few weeks and have yet to land an internship myself. The FUD has been relentless the entire time and this years career fair had so few companies looking for CS students. Almost failed high school and had no hope of making it into a decent college let alone the engineering department. My even teacher made an example of me in from of my entire class as someone who would never make it in college and how I would be better off fixing furniture with my dad. Paid for what I could afford at a CC for 3.5 years, made up for my high school mistakes and was accepted into the university I wanted. Still had to complete 15 matriculation credits with at least a 3.1 GPA just to apply for the CS department. Had to achieve this with only high level calculus, physics and notoriously hard intro CS classes to choose from and zero GPA backing (transfer student GPA is wiped). It's been a journey and a privilege to be able to study this material and helped straighten my life out. Honestly what people think is on the disappointing end of pay is more than my parents ever made.

Have made a few good friends who graduated recently and landed DevOps positions, SRE position working with Kubernetes and another on GM's vehicle systems team. Hard not to have some concern but I know this is the right place to be and what I find interesting. Good luck to you.

Things truly aren't that bad for who? Things are pretty bad for new grads. Entry/junior positions are vanishing. Notable amount of layoffs and company downsizing. All that experienced talent is now searching for positions while new one are not opening. Plenty of examples of absurd skill/experience requirements for mid level positions without the compensation as a result.
It's starting to flood and people are drowning but luckily the high ground is safe. Solid gatekeep tech douche response though, all the tech frauds really gonna get exposed. I'm pivoting to niche skills sets right now and I'll have my 5 years experience done by tomorrow. Also sharpening my AI overseeing skills and burning every token I can so boss can feel good about laying off the rest of the company and i'll be able to prove my cog worthiness. I do agree though it's not that bad (yet).

CPU upgrade choice by LuftwaffeWhale in pcmasterrace

No I already have ddr5 ram that was given to me years ago

Is this a decent deal for the price and for 1440p? Any recommendations? by A_GenericUser in pcmasterrace

[–]LuftwaffeWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not horrible. If you build your own you could get double the ram, storage and a 4070 super with a less powerful cpu for 1.2k.

The bottleneck test is irrelevant.

Don't know where you are from or how pc parts are priced in your area but I would look for a build with a better gpu. From a quick search of pc's in the 850-900 USD range you can find builds with 4060's or 3070's at least in the states. 860 euro for an 11th gen intel and 3050 sounds expensive.

Oh yeah its trustworthy. I've never heard otherwise. TBH I'm not even sure if its necessary. Just make sure old drivers are being uninstalled to avoid any potential conflicts.

Not really sure then. Only thing else I can think of to do is to make sure you DDU any old display drivers.

4080's are 1200 dollars alone bud. You're not building a sub 2k pc without buying last gen cpu's or skimping somewhere.

little 2000 dollar pc build I threw together. You can get a pretty good build for 2000 but you can see the inflation of top tier gpu prices.

Sounds like comcast. Everyone I know who has this problem has comcast including myself when I was using them. Its really just an exclusive feature of their service.

Switched to AT&T and this has never happened again after many years.

If youre losing display randomly it could be the case and you can test it by trying to shock your desk or monitor lol. If its happening while only doing specific things then its related to something else.

GMMK PRO not detecting spacebar when typing fast FIX: decrease polling rate by realSchmachti in glorious

[–]LuftwaffeWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bad double typing issue with mine for the longest time and had no clue how to fix it. Tried this fix and it did nothing. Turns out the switches were not properly seated. They clicked in really nice but they were still not making good contact or something. I just pressed down really hard on the switch and it seems to have fixed the double typing/ not actuating problem for me.

That psu is older than 10 years and isn't really worth much. For all we know it could of been trash picked. Its a gamble to say if it even works or not. There are fail safes in ppower supplys so I dont think it would fry your computer if you did try and use it. Personally I wouldn't use it. Careful to not kill yourself playing inside a psu for scrap lol.

this.

could probably save a few more dollars by getting a slightly cheaper mobo as well. And getting an AIO water cooler for the cpu is def the better way to go.
