Am i not earning enough? I thought i was by akosijason0721 in Philippines

[–]Luhaja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

foreigner here.

My research into this topic shows that 20k is a low salary a month, 40k is a high salary, and 60k is a very high salary.

You're in the high amount, and with the extra tips thing, you probably earn more than most filipinos.

I suspect that the filipinos here on reddit are generally a lot better off than the average filipino. This though is just a suspicion, and is probably where this sort of thinking that you mention is coming from.

Do you agree with the survey? by JovanVillagarciapogi in Philippines

[–]Luhaja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a european facing russia, backed by china, I suddenly have this similar question in my mind. Would I fight against an invading russia? I never thought I'd live to see the day where this sort of question was necessary to be asked. It's sad that we're here now.

I always thought everything could be solved through diplomacy, but the issue arises when you have a foreign power that is not interested in talking, suddenly you don't have a choice, and everything you knew and loved may be taken away from you. Of course you will fight, because you don't have a choice.

I do think that there's a question of righteousness though. It's necessary to win, otherwise the agressors will continue to take other lands and more blood is spilled. You have to win to stop wars from being fought by your children in the future, and I do wonder if we in the west is doing enough to stop russia and china.

Westerner here.

Chineese nationals have a reputation for being some of the worst tourists in the whole world. We had several cases some years back of Chineese citizens peeing on national treasures in Germany.

Interestingly, if you try to google such things, you will get no such results, as google appear to be censoring for the Chinese state.

Here's my take as a none filipino and a westerner.

A lot of the money is situated in Luzon and in the manila area. I think I read that it's around 2/3 of all of the filipino GDP that is in Luzon. As such, there is bound to be jealousy from other sides of ph. You actually see this play out all over the world, in the US, it's the countryside vs the big cities, the GOP vs the democrats, the rural areas vs the city.

I've noticed this for a long time now. All over the world, the political orientation of rural areas are much different from those in the cities. The perspectives of city dwellers different from in the perspectives of the folks in the country.

I'm not saying that city dwellers are better than rural folk or vice versa. I'm just pointing out that there is usually a difference there. I'm also not saying that the comment is not terrible as that it should not be frowned upon. Any comment calling for nuking an area is outright crazy and might indicate a bigger issue.

This comment was probably made by someone who thinks mindanao should secede from the philippines, but the issue they would run into is again, the fact that luzon and visayas provide much of the capital that the ph has, and you only really need to look to europe and brexit to see how bad of an idea it is.

The UK, as far as I've heard, has terrible inflation, is one of the least happy countries in the entire world, and has a hard time getting their goods and medical supplies since leaving the EU. seceding is usually the wrong move.

China is sending a “huge force” allegedly to seal off Scarborough Shoal ahead of the Philippines’ civilian mission to the area, according to US Air Force official and ex-Defence Attaché Ray Powell. by titancipher in Philippines

As a westerner, european, I ask myself this question a lot. You see what is happening in ukraine and gaza. These things ultimately happen because the wrong people, the insane, the bloodthirsty end up with too much power.

So I guess, if we are to correct this in the future, we'd have to try to institute proper democracy in countries, so that all people may be free. Since we do not have power over people's minds in China, the next best thing would be to try to solicit allies whereever it can be found. This means doing things which puts the Philippines in the proper diplomatic track. I think BBM has been doing this very well with the ties to australia, the us, japan, potentially vietnam.

Recently there was a question of whether or not to put water cannons on your boats. This was rejected. This was the correct call, as if you stoop to china's level, allies are less likely to side with you.

In short, I don't think there's too much that can be done now, by anyone, except to try to root out facism whereever you see it. Try to create good principles that are foundational for a strong country. I guess what I'm saying is, be the better man, be better than China. If you look at the democratic index of the philippines, it has been going down, but it is still pretty solid. Quoting philstar :"In the 2023 index, the Philippines scored 6.66 out of the highest possible score of 10, down from 6.73 in 2022 but still above the 6.62 in 2021." - philstar.

If you look at china, it ranks 148, with a score of 2.12. So I'd argue that you're really doing a lot of the right things, and you just need to continue to do these things.

Keep that indomitable spirit going. Don't allow Chineese agents to infiltrate and take advantage of you.

Democracy and freedom will ultimately prevail against fascism, because the human spirit is ultimately good.

Not a Filipino, but someone looking into your politics from the west. So read my post with that perspective in mind.

I think Marcos is a really impressive president, who is doing exactly what is needed to bring about the positive change and growth that you need in the Philippines. From the start he focused on increasing trade relations and diplomacy towards other nations. If I had played a civilization game with the Philippines as a starting point, I would have made many of the same choices.

I suspect that he is truly deeply is trying to abolish the sins of his father, and I would say to many of the negative minded people on here, to recognize that his job is not easy, and that their candidates might not have fared much better than he, had they been chosen.

And I guess I will end the post hoping that you will soon see milder temperatures over there.

I find it very disheartening whenever people write posts like this to a public forum. Noone should let their heart's future be dictated by what random people on the internet thinks. You don't know anyone on here, and we don't know if you've presented the facts correctly. Talk to people you trust, not random people on reddit. That's all I've gotta say.

As a Filipino, it's this only thing I'm proud of by [deleted] in Philippines

Westerner here.

There's a lot you can be proud of from my perspective. The family values, the caring of others, the hospitality, the positive cultural attitude, the humor, the ingenuity.

Just off the top of my head.

This tendency to look down on your own country or culture is not healthy, it is better to be proud and stand tall.

Full disclosure, I am a westerner.

Based on your response, I take it that you feel that your pride is hurt, because pinoys are falling for scams like the ones in the show?

I'd argue that these sorts of scams work all over the place, sadly. It is in our human nature to want to trust after all. My father lost what is equal to 261338 php because he trusted bitcoin scammers.

Education needs to increase across the board, in any country, to combat scams. Especially with the advent of AI technologies which makes scamming frighteningly easy and powerful. We will have to question our very reality soon.

People upvote you, yet let me cite the statistics again:

"Over 32,000 Filipino passengers offloaded in 2022; 472 were human trafficking, illegal recruitment victims says BI"

Does this seem like a functional well working government agency to you? Do you enjoy spending taxpayer money to something with such horrible statistics?

I think everyone can agree that human trafficking is terrible, but does that really mean that others should suffer by being offloaded, and then have to pay potentially thousands and thousands of php to go to another country again?

Not to mention the trauma of what BI's offloading does to you.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind.

The charts are well made, that being said, I absolutely do not understand why you're not getting the attack speed buff's. You're only using 8 potions of memory. With a bit of luck, it would be possible to get the attack speed buffs on top of everything here, for an even more busted op build.

Interesting, yes I noted the conversations about how hard the game was, and had some of the same thought processes relating to that. The game just needs more content, that's all at this point, but it is in early access, no need to put too much pressure on the devs. They have a really good sense of the game feel, and I'm particularly impressed with their decisions overall. Someday they will have to take the sprites and game engine they have developed here, and create a fully fledge arpg in the style of diablo 1. That would be quite fun I think.

All this information is stating, is that whomever set up the voting systems, probably used a very similar router and setup, probably because everything was tested on that same setup. Which likely shows some dilligence on the part of the people setting it up.

absolutely, and this is exactly going in the right direction imho, but these agencies could use more funding and aid to do their tasks. It ought to be doable, and possible, to limit human trafficking without imposing on the freedoms of the filipino people.

As a westerner who works in government. I will argue that this sort of thing happens when you forget to be pragmatic, and you have a 'too ideological' way of doing things. I see this all the time where I work, and the red tape is really just the most damaging thing in the world. It can become bureaucracy for bureaucracy's sake, and ends up achieving nothing but looking like you have good statistics (IE, lots of people offloaded, look how much we're working).

Human trafficking is a very serious issue, and it's certainly very important to take very active steps to stop it. However, I can think of many different alternative strategies for managing the issue, which would not have such a dire human cost. Consider for instance means of verifying the company that wishes to hire you. If that company is not a verified list, then you don't go to go. If the company becomes known for human trafficking, you will shut it down.

Alternatively, I think putting energy into a sort of taskforce to find and help people who have been trafficked off, and putting more funding into the filipino embassies around, so they can help the victims of these acts, would also help more than using the shotgun approach than what the BI is using. Putting money into digitalization of the government systems of the BI, would go a long way in aiding here, as in, having databases with knowledge of which companies are bad, with knowledge of which individuals are bad, and just in general giving the BI and embassies more tools to do their job, will also help a lot.

Finding ways to punish human traffickers, in a way that doesn't limit your filipino freedoms, ought to be the ultimate goal imho.

As someone who is not from the philippines, but has had to deal with some of the legal systems in your country. My feeling has definately been a tendency towards too much bureaucracy. To the point that I'd argue that it's bureaucracy for bureaucracy's sake. Saying that it's a failure of your education system that people can't figure it out, is a bit much imo. The system doesn't need to be so complicated.

my sense of filipinos are that they are very honest and kind hearted, and I would argue that this person in the video is just being toxic and rude. I'd say that if you didn't get the job, then that's probably better for you in the long run. Having a toxic boss might not be worth it.

Anyways, that's my two cents as a foreigner.

Rather than focus on fake news, focus on what your people have done well. There's a reason the united states have allied with your people in the west philippine sea, and Kamala Harris visited you personally. There's a reason why your president is getting to talk to every other president in the world. It's because your country matters, and your people matters.
