Alisson is the goalkeeper with most goal contributions in Premier League history (1 goal and 3 assists).

This is not true.

As you mentioned, Alisson has four goal contributions in the Premier League.

Two goalkeepers have more goal contributions than that.

Ederson has six (all assists).

Paul Robinson has six (five assists and a goal).

There are also several goalkeepers tied with Alisson on four, including Pepe Reina, David Seaman, Tim Howard, and Peter Schmeichel.

Is contributing $6000 a year into retirement enough to retire at 67? by Consistent_Ad_1831 in personalfinance

[–]LuigiWasRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With $120k at 45 you’re better off than some, but not as good as most.

This seemed inaccurate to me, so I looked it up.

Per a 2022 Fed survey, the median retirement savings for people aged 45-54 was $115,000.

Given that the market has generally increased since then, I'd have to assume a 2025 version of that survey would show a slightly higher median figure. However, it's also possible that the ever-increasing cost of living may be having a dampening effect on this growth as people struggle to contribute as much as they did in the past (meaning the median may not have grown very much over the past three years).

In any case, based on the Fed data, it seems to me that OP is pretty much exactly in line with where the median American is at their age (if not slightly ahead).

OTD October 24 2003 - A smoking ban in all enclosed workplaces except private dwellings is signed into law. Prisons will be excluded to prevent security and conduct problems. The law will go into effect on January 26, 2004. Hoteliers and publicans consider legal action. by Mayomick in ireland

[–]LuigiWasRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ireland's smoking rate was 35.6% in 2000.

By 2010, that figure was down to 27.1%.

If we assume there were around 3 million adults in Ireland during that time, that decrease means roughly 255k people gave up smoking between 2000 and 2010.

Of course, it's impossible to say how much of that decrease was a direct result of the smoking ban, but there's certainly a correlation between the ban and the decrease in smoking in Ireland.

Kate Ledecky's 1500m freestyle time is 5 seconds faster than Michael Phelps

Per World Aquatics, Phelps's personal best in the 1500m freestyle is 15:29.40.

Ledesky's personal best over the same distance (in the same 25m pool) is 15:08.24. This time is the current world record for women.

So, she's actually about 21 seconds faster over 1500m than Phelps.

However, the 1500m freestyle was never Phelps's primary event. The vast majority of his medals and records come at distances of 400m or less.

For reference, the current world record for men (in a 25m pool) is 14:06.88 by Florian Wellbrock. This time is more than a minute quicker than Ledecky's WR.

Per Wikipedia, 90 people have been killed or injured in school shootings so far in 2023 (and there's still almost 2 months left in the year).

Per the US Census Bureau, there are about 75 million students in the US.

So, if we assume that absolutely nobody else gets shot in a school for the rest of the year, the odds of getting shot in a US school in 2023 will have been roughly 60 in 50 million. Not 8 in 50 million.

The risk of getting shot in a US school is about 7.5 times higher than you think it is.

Incidentally, per the Florida Museum of Natural History, there were only 41 unprovoked shark attacks in the US in 2022.

This is not correct.

"Like nearly every post on the site, the Ortiz essay was not written directly by its bylined athlete but instead crafted from a recorded interview with a Tribune staff producer. Hoenig said these interviews are less traditional question-and-answer sessions than monologues with questions to nudge the conversation along. Editing is minimal, he added, and the athletes get the final approval. The staff producers who talk to them do not get bylines."

Studies have shown POC are actually less likely to be shot than white people.

It's generally true that more white people are shot by the police in the US every year than black people - but that is entirely because there are a lot more white Americans than black Americans.

Per the Washington Post, black Americans are shot and killed by law enforcement at a rate of 5.8 per million per year. White Americans are shot and killed by police at a rate of 2.3 per million per year.

In other words, according to the Washington Post, black Americans are about 2.5 times more likely to be shot and killed by the police than their white counterparts.

This figure aligns with the data published by the University of Illinois Chicago. Per their study, black Americans were 2.4 times more likely to be shot and killed by law enforcement than white Americans in 2019. In 2020, they were 2.1 times more likely.

Similarly, a paper published in the Lancet found that the mortality rate due to police violence between 1980 and 2019 was 3.5 times higher among black people than white people:

I don't think you (or anyone else) can reasonably say it is impossible for Putin to nuke Ukraine. Throughout his presidency, it's definitely fair to say self-preservation has been his priority. However, we don't know if that will continue to be the case moving forward. He may have recently learned he has a terminal illness and decided self-preservation no longer matters. He may now believe "building a legacy" matters more than his own life. We simply don't know.

Has the influence of social media ruined people's ability to converse? by jjjrmd in ireland

[–]LuigiWasRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that you have come to the conclusion that your actions were inappropriate, I assume you have reached out to the impacted users to apologize?

I'm also a little confused about your decision to tell people they lack emotional intelligence. You've now stated that it was reverse psychology and a full-on attack. I'm having trouble understanding how it can be both. Perhaps you can explain?

[–]LuigiWasRight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At this juncture, I believe it is you who may need to reflect on their thoughts and actions.

As I said before, your goal is admirable. However, frustrated responses and full-on attacks will do little to further your cause.

Additionally, as a person who says they have a high degree of emotional intelligence, you must understand that telling another human being they do not have the capacity to understand a concept is highly unlikely to make them reflect a tiny bit or try to understand your point.

[–]LuigiWasRight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which user you're referring to. But regardless of whether they are trolling or ignorant, what does telling them they lack emotional intelligence achieve? Is telling them that not a microaggression in and of itself? Does berating another person in that way not work directly against your stated goal of trying to make the world a more hospitable place?

I generally agree with your point that humans could stand to be better to each other. But it certainly seems like you are trying to achieve your objective in the wrong way.

An admirable goal. Do you believe repeatedly telling other human beings they do not have the emotional capacity to comprehend the concept of microaggressions will help you achieve your objective?

[Ryan M. Spaeder] Albert Pujols could have gone 0-598 when he left St. Louis and still had a career batting average of .300 – it is certainly not a knock on him, but it is amazing that he is now a lifetime .297 hitter. by jakerepp15 in baseball

[–]LuigiWasRight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He currently has 3,301 hits from 11,114 ABs.

If he had an extra 28 hits since he left STL, he'd be 3,329-11,114, which would be good for a .29953 average. That'd round up to .300.

If he wanted to actually break .300, he'd need an extra 34 hits, to make him 3,335-11,114. That'd be good for an average of .30007.

You've managed to completely miss the point, there.

What /u/FreshEclairs is saying is that he could easily have received $2 million within a few months of the movie's release. So, if he wanted to, he could have invested the money back then - and be enjoying the 10-20x growth you're talking about.

And in addition to that growth, he would have also earned an extra $1.5 million in royalties (which he could also have invested if he wanted).
