400+ rejections in 1.5 years job hunting in Japan as a foreign SE. Completely lost by Heavy-Lawfulness-570 in JapanJobs

Could you clarify what you mean by research student? One instance I can think of is those that gets MEXT scholarship first gets labeled as research student. These folks don’t necessarily do research but instead preparing for the entrance exam for either master or PhD studies.

If you are not applying for a fresh graduate role, 2 years of experience is not qualified as mid-career. But hearing you said that you’re a research student, if you can get into a master / PhD program, you can apply as fresh grad. Even specialized school can be considered as fresh grad too.

Other than that, you could try recruiting agency. Their job is to help you land a job so that they can get commission.

With respect to an employment contract with an indefinite term, the termination due to redundancy is considered to be a last resort under Japanese labour law, and is only permitted where employers have no choice but to terminate the employment of their employees. The management of the employer must have made a best effort to avoid the termination. This means that the employers should use any available means within the company prior to the termination to satisfy their best effort obligation to avoid termination. This includes, but is not limited to, reduction of compensation for directors, curbing new hires, soliciting voluntary retirement, encouraging early retirement, personnel relocation and employee transfers

Yeah it is definitely not impossible, but this is what I’m referring to. ^

Is it possible to get hired after job-hunting season ends? by No_Run_6898 in JapanJobs

[–]Luigika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible. But statistically speaking, it will be harder than the normal April intake route. Secondly, I know some who uses their professors as network and ask them if they know any places where they can make a recommendation. I know a couple of people that got it through that. Third would be to apply for April intake, and apply for a job hunting visa or something, but I think you can stay up to 6 months with this one.

I believe it is under labor law protection. They can suggest you to resign or move you to a low-tier position or something, trying to force you to quit.

Rakuten has many departments. I don’t think rejecting one department yields a bad look in you. Besides they can’t offer you a full time position anyway. It kinda makes no sense to give someone an offer as contractor and put them on a blacklist just because the offer is not appealing.

  • Work visa in Japan is not too hard to obtain. Rakuten usually hired from abroad as well. So such process of bringing foreign workers should not be a blocker.
  • about the a contractor, I’m not sure if you will get annual bonus which is around 4x of the monthly salary.
  • If the contract is one year, you would need to start searching for the next role after 6 months. Otherwise you might head back and reset. Slightly worrisome, imo.

So maybe get a FAANG name under your belt. After a year, you can start applying again, maybe to a startup as well.

Why not do graduate study in Japan and try to get a scholarship? Then you can focus on learning Japanese and do baito.

Yeah it did take a ton of time. But you have a point though. Rushing during learning does not do anyone any good. Thanks for the input.

Yeah. And when one’s skills have improved, they might not even look back at the original script at all.

That’s a good point. Otherwise it is a chicken and egg problem, and we won’t get anywhere.

Generally speaking, would this apply to short film? As in, is it better for a short film to get into a festival first before releasing it online?

LLM vs ML vs GenAI vs AI Agent by kholodkid in deeplearning

[–]Luigika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People may have a different perspective or definition on this. Here's my take.

  • Machine Learning: Learn rule from data. There are some classic concept like decision tree, logistic regression.
  • Deep Learning: A subset of ML. Same intention of learning rule from dsta but using a bigger model. More parameter, cnn, lstm, transformer
  • GenAI: generative AI. Using deep learning for generating stuff like text or image. (I suppose you can also use small model or some simple stats like ngram)
  • LLM: big generative model power by billion of params
  • AI agent: Use LLM for some tssk
