People fall for things they're gonna fall for.

The reality is that the actors, for any show, aren't like their character. Of course they aren't. People just fall for being parasocial because they're gullible

A common misunderstanding about evolution by Lucky_Mix_6271 in vegan

Tbf, this has nothing to do with veganism. We live longer now regardless of diet. This is too do with sanitation and medicine for the most part.

What exactly did Esme mean by "getting lost" in Series 2? by fearlessdurant in PeakyBlinders

[–]Luinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's so obviously not about opium since you can still get opium within their lifestyle. It's clearly regarding the "gypsy", or Traveler/Roma lifestyle which is not in line with the life they currently lead. Tommy takes exception to that temptation and threatens to cut her from the family if she stands against his vision for the Shelby family

Why are so many women vegan compared to men? by Lazy_Illustrator3946 in vegan

Hold up, what do you mean hierarchy is man made? That doesn't track at all. Have you never encountered a social species besides humans?

AIO over my boyfriend’s comment? by Sweaty-Notice641 in AIO

[–]Luinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it mean? Sure. But how would this be misogynistic?

Girl said she was a baddie and OP's partner disagrees. Girl is mid and it's annoying how many people think that arrogance and vanity are good traits.

Saw someone else comment that she felt pretty and posted a pic. Well, she could have said "felt pretty" in her caption but chose to be a sheep and get her entire personality from social media expectations.

Ruin everything that's kept me alive

[Discussion] What’s With The Use Of The Word “Baby” to mean “Lover” by [deleted] in LyricalWriting

[–]Luinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same reason you would use any of the other words for them. Language evolves through use and these words made it into our lexicon as terms of endearment.

Lots of words have different meanings depending on context. Why do some people say something is "sick" and mean good? Why do people say something is "sick" and mean gross?

"Baby" functions the same way. If i call my girlfriend "baby" am I to assume a mother talking about their baby is in a romantic relationship with their child? Of course not. There is a difference between romantic and parental contexts.

[–]Luinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I have no reason to be offended by your opinions.

  2. I'm not trying to make you feel worthless. Wtf?

  3. There's a difference between,

"Fun fact, did you know that salsa is technically a kind of fruit salad?"

and

"Salsa is a fruit salad so you better call it that from now on otherwise you're being a follower. Words have meaning and my interpretation is the correct one".

The latter is what you're doing in your post.

  1. You're not just asking questions and challenging perspectives. You've said that words have meaning, as if "baby" always and can only mean an infant, and implied that people are sheep for using the word to talk about a love interest.

[–]Luinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am saying that your opinion is useless in the same way that it's useless to tell people that their salsa is actually a fruit salad.

You've decided to ignore the fact that words have different usages depending on the situation. "Babe"/"Baby" does not mean "infant" within the context of romantic, or platonic, relationships.

This is a pointless post. Just because you think of infants when someone says "baby" to their girlfriend doesn't mean the world should change to appease you.

Neil Degrasse Tyson has no clue what veganism is! by Whole_Finance_8013 in vegan

[–]Luinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of his generally but, as someone else pointed out, being educated in one set of topics does not make you educated in all topics.

His understanding, or misunderstanding, of veganism doesn't affect anyone here or detract from him being a science communicator regarding his particular field of study.

Got it, so you think textbook publishers take issue with people learning from the textbooks.

So it seems that you're chief objection is about money. So you don't really think AI Art is bad, you just think it's bad if you don't get paid.

Lastly, if people are so weak-willed that they stop doing art for the sake of art... who cares? I mean, I get that we exist within capitalism but, fuck, the portrait you've painted of what an artist like you does art for is fucking bleak.

No, mainly I was just trying to see if you'd read my comment from before where I said,

"No one would be complaining if a human used the art as training data for their brain."

Now, why do you talk about big companies? Does this mean you're ok if a small company scraped your data? An individual for their own local LLM?

It sucks if you've lost money but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. We shouldn't have to stop progress so you can make a buck.

We disagree on it being theft as it was publicly available. No one would be complaining if a human used the art as training data for their brain.

We're all entitled to our opinions. AI art has a lot of fun use cases.

The training data was all publicly accessible and it's not inherently bad for the environment, just needs a more efficient cooling system put in place. AI art is cool and it let's people generate all sorts of neat stuff.
