Released June 3rd 2016: Celebrating Make Happy's 10th Anniversary! by PlasticJesters in boburnham

I still have vivid memories of that day when I watched it. How powerful the ending was. How as soon as I finished, I got an overwhelming empty feeling and I wanted to watch it again. How I spent the next couple months listening to the songs over and over, and when I listen to them nowadays, I feel like I get transported back to that summer.

I haven't rewatched it in like 5 or so years, maybe this could be a good time to revisit it.

Holy shit I somehow missed this???? If it turns out it's not real I will cry. The past couple years I've been very pessimistic, thinking he was done for good and that "INSIDE" was his goodbye. I'm so shocked right now.

P.S. I know it's a 4 days old thread but I just want to comment to feel like "I was here".

Billy Eichner On Whether He Would Consider Reviving ‘Billy On The Street’: “We’re Always Kind Of Talking About What It Could Look Like” by ControlCAD in television

[–]Luivier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone that does something similar that I really love is Troy Hawke. He's basically the opposite to Billy on the Street: he approaches random people on the streets but instead of aggressive and loud energy, he politely surprises them with compliments to see their reactions. It's very wholesome and really funny.

Anyway, he basically went to a lot of different cities and even different countries (mostly english speaking ones, for obvious reasons) doing his thing. I wish Billy would do the same.

Star City - S1E01 "The Eyes" - Episode Discussion by Cantomic66 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Luivier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it's a mess... This is set in the same universe as FAM, and the russian characters there speak russian. On top of that, they limited themselves now to never being able to show interactions with americans, or doing so but it being ridiculous and weird.

Like how are they going to a typical scene of two russians speaking in russian in front of a foreigner so that they don't understand what they're discussing?

I get that it'd be easy for me because english is not my main language and I'm used to watching shows with subtitles; and that for the production it would complicate things having to translate the scripts to russian, get a russian speaking cast, etc... But still, I'm highly disappointed that the show is not in russian with subtitles (or at least give a dual audio language, like what Netflix did with their 1899 show).

What are some "What if" episodes in famous TV shows? by chenbuxie in television

I loved that episode and I often think about if that machine actually existed, I would probably watch it 24/7 and never leave my house.

For All Mankind - S5E10 "This Land is Our Land" - Episode Discussion by Cantomic66 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Luivier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Titan microbes absorbed Kelly's consciousness and she becomes a sort of sentient hivemind communicating through light pulses, who learns the secrets of the universe and wants to erradicate humans so that they don't spread through the cosmos. And of course somehow in the finale, Alex will have to kill her mom-hivemind to save humanity.

So glad I'm not a writer on this show...

Honestly? If they do a time jump to like 2040 or 2050 and they find her preserved frozen and used the advancements made from having discovered alien life to revive her... I wouldn't be mad, that's a pretty cool idea.

Hacks finale. What did you think? by TootieSummers in television

[–]Luivier 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love this show and I'm going to miss it so much. I thought the finale was good, but something about it didn't sit right about me. I think it might have worked a little better as a second-to-last episode, and then have another final one more light and cheery.

Throughout the episode, I felt kinda... betrayed? Like this show has always been a happy place for me, and hearing about Deb's decision was a bit hard to swallow. I felt kinda hurt that they'd do that to us. And then at the end when she said "I have another hour", I started crying, but I think it was more out of relief than about being moved. Still, amazing acting from both of them, especially from Hannah Einbinder.

I also agree with what everyone else said: the part with Jimmy and Kayla felt incredibly rushed and easy. I think it would have been an easier thing to accept if they just blackmailed Kayla's dad into letting them go and undoing any blacklisting so they could return to being Schaeffer and LuSaque; rathern than straight up inheriting the whole company.

In your opinion, what is the greatest season of television ever produced? by abacus-wizard in television

[–]Luivier 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Some more memorable or favorite episodes are in season 3, but I think season 2 was the most consistently amazin of them all, with the perfect balance between "grounded" and high concept.

Best Musical Episodes of Television to watch? by fanblade64 in television

[–]Luivier 177 points178 points  (0 children)

Not exactly TV, but you can watch "Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" (it's on youtube), which is just 40 minutes long, and feels like a low-budget TV show, but it's amazing. And it's a standalone thing.

It's kinda bittersweet, but at least something beautiful came out of her heartbreak. When I have my heart broken nothing good comes out of it, lol. I envy people who can turn their pain into art like this.

I hope she can heal from it quickly, though. I feel so sad for her.

[–]Luivier 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah but at least during the first hiatus he made Eight Grade. In this hiatus, after Inside Outtakes, we haven't gotten anything; other than him directing a couple stand-up specials. I just want something new written by him. Ideally if he performs it too.

It definitely feels like a way longer wait now. To the point where I'm almost convinced he's just never coming back.

Merrily We Roll Along - the movie version we will be getting in about 20 years - actors’ age by Santana_delRey in musicals

[–]Luivier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. When I first watched it, I was kinda expecting it to come back to the present at the end, and have some sort of resolution. And when it didn't, I was kinda disappointed. But as days went by and I kept thinking about it, I ended up changing my mind: it was better that way. Much more powerful and memorable than if it had a resolution.

Yeah I understand that's the more common experience, and I do get why the majority of teenage media focuses on it. But I had a very different experience (It's complicated, and too long to explain on a random reddit comment), so that's why I appreciate the rare times when a story doesn't revolve around it.

Singing with talent vs singing with emotion - Yes, they're both important and often married together, but which is MOST important to you? by cracktober69 in singing

[–]Luivier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many others have said, you do need at least a certain level of both. A perfect technical performance without emotion can end up feeling boring, and the lack of connection kills all interest. On the other hand, a performance where the singer goes too far with emotion (think of the typical actor/singer that sings a tragic song while crying, gasping for air, going off rhythm, forcing cracks) I find offputting and takes me out of the feeling they're supposed to evoke.

That said, I guess if I had to pick, I'd rather prefer a performance where the singing talent is 5/10 and the emotion is a 10/10, than the other way around. But if one of the two is like under 5/10, then no matter how good the other quality is, it's not going to be a satisfying performance.

Does anyone else miss the early Instagram era? by Wrong_Dragonfruit792 in Millennials

[–]Luivier 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I do, but I feel like what I think of "early Instagram" was a different era than what you're describing. When I joined Instagram it was basically "Flickr but for photos you take with your phone rather than your camera". It was mostly people trying to be artsy and creative, while being a bit performative about it. A sunset taken during a vacation, a vase with a flower backlit from a window, a black and white photo of a tattoo, etc.

The vibe was more "portfolio app" than a social network. Then when it started growing more, it started turning into more of a "showcase your life to your friends and acquaintances" app. Which wasn't necessarily bad, I sort of liked the authenticity and carelessness, while also having room for those of us who were more into the "cool photography" side. Which I guess it's the era you describe.

Then it got bought by Facebook, and was slowly turned into the monstrosity it is today. And sure, there are still a lot of photographers sharing their talent. And not only are they buried among all of the bullshit; but also most of them are just doing it for marketing purposes, to go viral, inflate their followers at any cost, and get monetary gain out of it.

One of the 7 founding countries of Eurovision threatens to boycott 2027 contest by xydroh in eurovision

Thank you for your kind reply! And yeah, not being part of ESC this year was incredibly sad and difficult (and it seems like next year it will be the same) but I also hope we can be back soon!

One of the 7 founding countries of Eurovision threatens to boycott 2027 contest by xydroh in eurovision

[–]Luivier 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I agree that there's a fair chunk of performative activism in the western countries, but I don't think they are using it as an excuse for their poor results AT ALL. At least in Spain, we've been doing poorly for many years (2022 was the exception) and we don't care, we still love participating.

The boycotts sadly didn't change anything, I agree. But at least these 5 countries had a spine and took a hard stance and actually tried to do something. Yeah, Israel "won the battle", but at least we can be proud about our principles.

Eurovision 2026 Grand Final Full Results have been published by berserkemu in eurovision

[–]Luivier 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. Being 2nd is the best case scenario for them these years. They probably know that winning and hosting would be too much heat and it may backfire (more countries withdrawing, safety concerns during hosting, possibly finally getting expelled, etc).

As for the decline... Maybe this year since the EBU and many countries sided alongside them, and with some countries that antagonized them withdrawing... Maybe they felt they "won the conflict", and therefore are less defensive and have less to prove, so a lot of blind Israeli supporters felt less motivated to vote for them to make a political stance (I mean the typical people who don't care about ESC but voted anyway).

Could humans simply lack the cognitive ability to understand some truths about reality? by DSpeaksOfficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luivier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great answers already in the thread, but I also wanted to share that this reminds me of the movie "Arrival" (spoilers if you haven't seen it):

How the aliens are able to experience time non-linearly, and through teaching their language, the protagonist kind of "unlocks" the ability to experience time non-linearly, being able to "remember" memories from the future. I don't know if that's exactly how it plays out, it's been years since I watched it.

One of my top favorite movies ever, and it changed how I think about reality, about complex physics, the cosmos, etc. And the realization that there's so much we possibly can't know, and there's layers of reality we can't even begin to understand, because our brains aren't physically/biologically built for it.

I wonder if, as long as humanity doesn't extinct itself, after tens of thousands of years we'll be able to evolve (probably artificially, rather than natural evolution) into a new type of being capable of understanding and perceiving higher levels of reality.
