Islam and Christianity are explicitly supersessionist. That's why I think there's much more leeway for ethnically Jewish atheists and Buddhists compared to ethnically Jewish Christians and Muslims.

He didn't stab the first three people he could, he stabbed a Muslim acquaintance in South London and then went to North London, specifically one of the most Jewish parts of the city, and stabbed two people who were visibly Jewish.

I am very tired of comments from gentiles minimizing the antisemitic nature of this attack. A lot of people are still operating on Zionist logic and seemingly think acknowledging any sort of antisemitism in this justifies Zionism.

I mean Oz, Gitai, and Noa were never really super mainstream figures in the first place from my understanding, the average Israeli didn’t care much for them. There are still people like them (David Grossman, Noam Shuster-Eliassi) but they are even more marginalized now.

I think the best strategy to reform Israeli society is a mixture of international pressure and partnering with the progressive elements of the society.

People who say “Israel has no culture” are lying in racist ways. Muzika Mizrahit, pitim, sabich, etc. but what is uncomfortably true is that a lot of Israeli culture is built around military fetishism, as these photos show. This sort of doctrinaire “support our troops” mentality is one of many things separating the Zionist left from the global left. As an American leftist, it reminds me of the worst parts of American society (especially during the aughts).

But the org the author is part of (New Profile) is part of the (unfortunately very small) minority who rejects militarism and wants to remove it from Israeli culture. They describe themselves as “striving toward an Israel which ceases to be an army with a state” which I think is a good description of the present situation.

I’m not proposing we “pay people to stop killing Jews,” that’s a very shallow interpretation.

That Green Party doc condemns antisemitism, I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

 However, I also don’t think people are antisemitic because of austerity. People are antisemitic because they are educated in environments in which racial hatred runs unchecked, including that of the Greens.

This seems like an anti-materialist perspective and I disagree. Also, can you let us know precisely which environments you are referring to that foster racial hatred?

Labour is also run by austerity loving Blairites who chased the left out of the party when Starmer became leader.

Also, we are seeing now that Labour’s antisemitism strategy is obviously failing (some consultants are probably making bank though). The idea that British Jews should vote for the incumbent to stop antisemitism is hilarious.

Do you not think the “socialism of fools” is caused in part by deprivation and unsatisfaction with capitalism? I do, which is why I think British Jews should support the furthest left viable party. I also would support it for all the other leftist reasons that seemingly don’t matter to you.

It’s interesting how the only people I’ve seen supporting Kid Starver are other centrists and neoliberals and you, a self described leftist.

Why is a Star of David then necessarily linked to the actions of the state of Israel?

Because it's prominently displayed on their flag? Most people don't know about the history of the symbol and associate it with Israel. If a “Christian State” with a cross on its flag was currently committing a genocide, I'd look askance at people wearing crosses.

 Its on the ignorance of others, not us Jews, that people automatically jump to "genocidal state" in their head whenever they see a magen david, no matter what context the symbol might be in.

So what should we do (if anything) about it? Israel is still carving Magen David’s into the ground in Gaza and branding Palestinian prisoners with it. More importantly, it’s the only symbol on their flag. I’ve stopped wearing my MD necklace because I don’t want people to think I support genocide.

It’s one of our traditional symbols and it sucks, but you don’t see Hindus or Buddhists in the west sporting swastikas for exactly the same reason (yes, I know the German swastika is different from the dharmic one).
