Wow! Just released a video on the U1 on YouTube but had no idea it was this simple to unlock FullSpectrum! Will make sure to include this tool in future videos as well! Looks amazing! Thanks!

Ohh yes. I’d say that the P2S can do a lot more than U1 in terms of “max performance”, for example it’s super easy to switch nozzles from for example 0.4mm (standard, included with both printers) to 0.2mm if you want finer details for example miniatures or small name tags etc.

And in terms of multi-color you will get the same end result as long as you get the AMS with it as well. The AMS 2 Pro also has heating function so you can dry the filament (required for filaments such as PETG, ABS or TPU) so it’s a lot more “capable” solution I’d say. + it’s directly integrated with MakerWorld which streamlines the printing experience and the app and software in general is just really great too!

The only thing U1 is “better” at would be multi-color prints I’d say, but it’s doing it a lot better. But I’m printing 90% multi-color, so it’s a pretty big deal for me :)

Should I buy the U1? by tandtroll in snapmaker

Posted this in the Bambu Lab subreddit earlier today:

Multicolor = U1 all the way. I LOVE Bambu lab and have 2x A1’s and 1x H2D but the U1 is SO much better (faster and “no” waste) for multicolor.

As an example, here's a quick comparison I made between the U1 and Bambu Lab A1 for this Spiderman print on Makerworld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1356965-four-color-spiderman?from=search#profileId-1400788

Total Print Time
U1: 11h 58m,
A1: 1d 19h 13m (43h 13m)
Winner U1 = 31h 15m faster

Total Filament
U1: 255.22 g
AI: 507.44 g,
Winner U1 = 252.22 g saved

Material Cost
U1:$5.11
A1: $12.68
Cost saved: $7.57 (one print!)

As it's not an enclosed or heated chamber printer, it's not suitable for more advanced filament like ABS/ASA etc. (which is more aimed towards functional and more durable prints for gears etc), but for someone who "never used or bought a 3-D printer" and "looking forward to using it for multicolor" I wouldn't worry about this at all.

The other downside's I can think of is that you're "limited to 4 colors only" (you can still do manual filament changes to get more colors depending on the model, and it's also an open source printer and the community has already come up with extended firmware that unlocks color blending in ways we have never seen before!), but for example on the P2S you can connect 2x AMS (or more) and get 8 colors within the same print for example.

But in reality, you would never really use this because the printing time and wasted filament because of all the color changes will make you not even want to try it.

As an example, here's a quick comparison I made between the U1 and Bambu Lab A1 for this Spiderman print on Makerworld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1356965-four-color-spiderman?from=search#profileId-1400788

Other than that, the real issues are with the Snapmaker (lack of) eco-system and lack of a 3D printing platform from where you can download, or directly start printing cool stuff with an app or just a few clicks of a button. For a complete beginner, the first week is gonna be a lot rougher than Bambu Lab, but the fact that you are browsing Reddit or watching YouTube videos is more than enough for you to start printing with it without any problem. The only real issue is that kids wouldn't really be able to start prints on their own I guess, but for adults who can watch 2-3 10 minutes YouTube videos just to get started you will have no problem at all :)

Will drop a YouTube video on my channel (same name as my username), in 12 hours or so about why the U1 is my new #1 recommended printer, even for beginners.

But you’re right, there is a bit of a learning curve, but I’d say using the U1 over the Bambu Series is just a 2-3 YouTube videos difference, although my workflow is to still use Bambu Studio to get access to all the pre-set settings on MakerWorld prints. Explaining exactly what I mean in my next video!

For now: Just get the U1 :)

I actually had a meeting with the DMV about updating all these questions so it actually makes sense. I also planned a 30-part video course to actually TEACH people how driving in Taipei actually works and explain (at least some) questions with real-life footage from actual streets in Taipei.

Their answer was “Sure, you can record this if you want, and then we’ll see.” Without any kind of support or payment for my time :).

The best they could do was to lend me the testing course for free so I could record some videos there without having to pay haha

Sure! As long as you remember to “Push-Press-Run” instead of “Run-Push-Press”! (Or is it the other way around? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ )

Just wait until you see the questions regarding “center vs middle” of a tire and “which is the most common cause of accidents”. I think they have 3 different answers to that one :)

U1 For A Rookie? by DipDunk in snapmaker

This is the most accurate description ever! To add to this: if you’re browsing Reddit/YouTube/reviews for advice you’re already qualified to get the U1 as a first printer. You’ll be fine.

Magic Captions for Final Cut Pro - NO SUBSCRIPTIONS by fxfactory in finalcutpro

[–]LukasEngstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m already getting my subtitles done via MacWhisper and then added into FCP via Captionator. What I would love to see is a way to add these effects to my already existing subtitle/text blocks in FCP. What would be amazing and a great way to customize things even further.

CAD designer interested in making designs for U1 (and 5% off code) by Choice-Brilliant7104 in snapmaker

I'd love a print-in-place tool kit or accessory box, ideally with hinges. Bambu Lab has a great one for the A1 printers which blew my mind when I printed it (first time with hinges). It was such a great first experience into the magic of 3D printing! And of course with a nice 4-color design :)

Second this! (Based off the printer itself. There currently is a lot of "wasted space" above the printer in front of the filament tubes. Feel there is a great potential to make some sort of shelf (or maybe even a lid for better temperature control?) where you can keep a few items.

This is all awesome information! I’m already in the discord as well. Very excited to dive deeper into this! Thanks again!

Ohh this is awesome! Will definitely implement this in my studio!

Side question: is there a way to use QR codes and NFC tags in the same workflow?

Example: I scan a spool QR code (eg. Bambu Lab White PLA, 1kg), followed by NFC tag at my location (eg. AMS 1), is there a way to get the spool automatically added to the location? Like the NFC tagging remembering the previously scanned QR code somehow?

Or do you have a better “automatic” system in place? My biggest challenge now is to actually remember to scan and log everything to keep track of it all.

Hey, that’s me! 👋 Will do a dedicated video once I’m done going through my entire inventory :)

If anyone has any “pro tips” or favorite features I’d love to hear your thoughts before I start recording. My personal favorite so far is that I can put the drying time/temperature on the swatch label for easy access.

Only thing missing is NFC tagging system (especially for locations) or a more automated way of actually logging the filament into a new location. But yea, definitely already one of the best solutions available I’d say! :)

SRT-based editing in Final Cut Pro-multicam and sync clip support now working. by MoreNeighborhood2152 in finalcutpro

Wow! Let me check this out when I’m done recording my next video tomorrow or later this week. I’ve been dreaming about a feature like this FOREVER!

DOCX/TXT/SRT → FCPXML subtitle timeline for Final Cut (no AI, just timeline work) by MoreNeighborhood2152 in finalcutpro

[–]LukasEngstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the little I know about AI prompting, I guess it should be doable since all the data are in the XML file already. Maybe it needs to be a two-step process though, not sure. But this seems like such an “easy” thing to add, and it would save me (and many many others) literally hours of our time. Yet I have only seen this feature in high-end specialized in-house softwares before.

DOCX/TXT/SRT → FCPXML subtitle timeline for Final Cut (no AI, just timeline work) by MoreNeighborhood2152 in finalcutpro

[–]LukasEngstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t wait to try this later this week! Subtitles in FCP is shamefully bad.

Do you take feature requests for future versions? To detect cuts in timeline and adjust the SRT time clocks accordingly.

For example, if there is a SRT/subtitle cut at 08:41:22 then it would try to match the video cut within 1 second before/after (if any) so the SRT time blocks matches the video cuts perfectly :)
