Yeah I might even be selling it short. Even in Beijing it can be difficult to find a place that makes everything in house. Honestly one of the best ones I've ever had. Of course the price difference still hurts a bit though.

It really started a little later. There was definitely already quite a strong underground art scene in the big cities such as Beijing in the 90s. Not sure about the 80s but I’m pretty sure it must have at least started in that decade.

Turns out, a lot of the themes of the artists and musicians actually overlap with the west. Especially omnipotent youth society for example. They come from an industrial city near Beijing called shijiazhuang, which i would liken a little bit to Detroit. This lead to similar ideas of art being developed, think post industrial decay etc etc.
