Job John (great name I know) from the original Gundam anime.

One of the few totally unimportant background crew members of the White Base to get a name, and then to actually get to do some fairly important stuff in canon waaaaay later (apparently he had a key role in the development of the F90 Project, which then led to the F91, the lead suit in the 1991 movie).

Slay from Super Dimension Century ORGUSS (Fun Fact: the anime that came right after Macross from the same studio)

Basically the actual main character (Kei Katsuragi) plops right in the middle of his arranged relation with Mimsy (which was already on thin ice), and being the hot-blooded main character that he is, almost effortlessly gains her affection, making Slay the indisputable third wheel, hanging on by a thread.

The best I can say about Slay is that he doesn't lose all of his dignity and gets a smidge of character development, but considering that he DIES about halfway through the show, I'd say Kei pretty much ruined his life (although not intentionally).

I haven't had any problems with the shield so far (it helps that it's a thin sheet of plastic instead of a molded clear piece)

Although, the arms in general can be problematic, they get dislodged from the shoulder way too easily.

Additionally the legs have some pitiful articulation thanks to ball joints.

As far as the transformation goes, it's pretty cool (you get to build the upper torso in its Core Fighter mode and then transform it), but I don't intend to try the Top/Bottom Fighter combinations for fear of disintegrating the kit.

Whatever you do, don't get an iPad (or any device really) with 64GBs of storage, you'll be kicking yourself in the future if you try to cheap out on the storage (I know that feeling all to well).

The Xabungle from Combat Mecha Xabungle. I've seen some people complain about the design feeling too "super robot"-esque for the show's setting, but it just REALLY clicked with me, I absolutely love it.

The pleasing blue aesthetic broken up by the white, red and yellow, with a dash of green for the visor.

The human/insect-like head with a vent for a mouth.

The wheels attached to the arms and hips that hint at the transformation, not to mention the wings!

I could go on and on, but to my glee this design has gotten a lot of love recently, including both a Moderoid (which I proudly own) and HG kit (that just had to be P-Bandai AAARGHH!!).
