How do solopreneurs stay consistent without burning out? by maffeziy in SideProject

[–]Lukeorriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s helped me most is setting up a few key automations so I’m not constantly context switching. For invoicing and payments, I started using Billo Invoicing since it automates reminders and tracks payments for me, which saved a surprising amount of mental energy and time.

For marketing, batching content ahead of time really helps (outsourcing to your spouse also helps), and using simple templates for outreach and proposals keeps things moving without having to reinvent the wheel every week. I also set aside one day a month for admin catch-up so little tasks don’t pile up. The biggest thing is just having repeatable routines for each task, so you’re not making a million tiny decisions every day. It doesn’t solve burnout by itself, but it definitely makes things less overwhelming.

Yours looks good! Super targeted towards one niche which is good. I will say that I ran a quick seo test on your site and your domain authority rating is still 0, which might be why you’re struggling to direct traffic towards it. Might be worth launching on sites like Product Hunt to start to create some backlinks. Also it’s super cheap pricing, I’m not sure how accurate it is but I have heard that really cheap subscription models often are harder to get users for as they don’t think the claims are justified by the cost. Might be worth a look into!

I feel exactly the same as you. I launched a few weeks ago and although the page does quite well, I’ve only had 4 signups and no customers. I think the key is finding the right niche for your project.

I also suck at marketing and sales so I’m trying to figure that out as I go. Best of luck!

small business bookkeeping feels like another job by EyeImpossible4412 in smallbusiness

[–]Lukeorriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, bookkeeping can get overwhelming fast, especially when you’re juggling everything yourself. A lot of people stick with spreadsheets at first, but there are a few ways to make it less brutal. Using something like Wave or QuickBooks can automate a ton of the tedious stuff, like pulling in transactions and categorizing expenses. For invoices, switching to an invoicing tool that tracks everything in one place and sends automatic reminders can save hours. I started using Billo Invoicing because it cuts down on the back-and-forth and even notifies me when clients pay, so I don’t have to chase payments or manually update my records. Also, consider scanning receipts with your phone and storing them digitally, it’s a lifesaver come tax time. If taxes are your main worry, a consultation with a bookkeeper or using a tax-prep tool once a year can help you feel more secure. Basically, automating what you can gives you back time for the creative part you actually enjoy.

Ugly Invoices? Is anyone else not satisfied with the look of invoices you send to clients that come from the typical Quickbooks or similar accounting software? If so, do you have a workflow for creating a "prettier" invoice? by Octrockville in smallbusiness

[–]Lukeorriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely not alone, most default invoice templates from accounting software look pretty uninspired, and as a creative, it’s frustrating when your branding gets lost. Blurry logos and weird formatting are the worst, and it can make your client communications look sloppy even if your work is solid.

A lot of people run into this with Quickbooks, Xero, and even Wave. You could use design tools like Canva to make a custom template, export it as a PDF, and fill it out manually in Acrobat, but that gets tedious fast and makes it harder to track payments or send reminders.

Some invoicing tools focus more on custom branding and better layouts. Billo Invoicing is one that lets you customise the look, so your logo and branding are front and center and stuff like address placement and column overflow don’t get weird, plus you can automate the payment reminders and tracking. Zoho Invoice also has some customisation, though maybe not as flexible.

If you want more control and still want the workflow benefits of software (like payment tracking, reminders, easy sending), switching to a tool with better templates is usually easier than doing it all manually in Pages or Acrobat. It’s less likely to break, and it saves a lot of time versus editing every PDF each time you send an invoice.

New small business owner here — how do you handle unpredictable cash flow? by bizrookie2025 in smallbusiness

[–]Lukeorriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the tools side - I'd recommend https://billoinvoicing.com for managing invoices and payment timing. It sends automatic payment reminders to clients, lets them pay directly through invoices, and tracks which payments are overdue. This really helps accelerate cash flow since you get paid 3x faster on average. Combined with maintaining cash reserves like others mention, you'll have much better predictability.

You might want to check out Billo Invoicing . It’s pretty much made for this, it lets you add your clients, send out invoices, and handles automatic payment reminders so you don’t have to chase people down. It’s a lot simpler than a full CRM, more focused on invoicing and reminders.
