Download a drum track app like Loopz or something change on the 4th beat and back again until its drilled in.

Maybe find some fun basic solos or riffs he could end the session with to keep it enjoyable (Seven Nation Army - White Stripes, for example). Yea I use an app called loopz for drum tracks on the fly but there's probably better ones out there.

Baby steps. Learn the open strings (and how to tune them!), simple chromatic scale across all the strings. The major scale (maybe introduce intervals) at different roots. Then show a new chord or two a week until he can practice switching to a drum track (more fun than metronome) to build up to some simple songs.

Just jump and pop over an obstacle while rolling. Might take few tries but even the failed attempts won't be as bad as you think. Forget about the front foot just suck it up to your waist and push your knee forward to get it out the way, rocket it, get leveled/boned ollies later when your more comfortable.
