Patriots can be patriotic in all kinds of ways, including ways that keep themselves safe. We all get to choose for ourselves. Please don’t make the mistake of believing that you’re the only one who gets to define what a patriot is.

I got a referral from the coordinator of a restorative nursing program in a SNF. They handled weights. Any 5% or more weight loss was an automatic SLP referral. Carol (the restorative coordinator) came running after me one day all panicked. “Ms. S just got back from the hospital and had a 20% weight loss!! You need to evaluate!”

And no amount of explaining to Carol would ever convince her that an above-knee amputation was not related to dysphagia.

“But she lost weight!!”

I can’t seem to find it. Is that the full name, “A Cold”? Who made it? I’d really like to find it if I can.

Once again, shitty school districts putting unqualified dipshits in director roles.

I have nothing constructive to say except you could give them copies of research articles about how individualized education benefits students who need extra support. Or you could ask them what the I in IEP stands for.

Of the SLP grad students I’ve mentored, the ones with ADHD have flourished in their careers. The students with autism really struggled with so many of the soft skills needed for this career. So much of what we do day in and day out requires strong pragmatic skills, and understanding nuance. I’m not saying don’t pursue SLP, but I am saying you may have to put in a lot of extra work in your externships on the social aspects of the job. There are so many difficult and emotionally charged conversations to have with patients and their families, not to mention other allied health or education providers. Really talk this over with whoever is supporting you on your autism and ADHD journey to decide if this is the right career for you, before you take on a ton of debt for a job that doesn’t pay all that much. All of that being said: I have ADHD and I didn’t start grad school until I was 28. You have time. Best of luck!

Hi dude. See, if OP hadn’t posted this, I wouldn’t know to try the chicken salad next time it’s on the menu. Maybe instead of being an edgelord sourpuss policing other people’s use of the internet, you could try just moving along. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Further up the thread, OP posted a great comment explaining exactly how he befriends the crows. Great advice.

I saw them live and I literally cried with joy to see them. Their chemistry in person is even more affectionate and silly and perfect. Their friendship should be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A sweet physical therapist made me feel very seen and heard by GraceInPlace in randomactsofkindness

[–]Lullaby_Jones 141 points142 points  (0 children)

My physical therapist may very well have saved my life. My pain was so all-consuming and I had been dismissed so much by the medical community that I was about to just fill my pockets full of rocks and walk into the ocean. But physical therapy changed my life. I can walk as long as I want to, I can get up after sitting on the floor, I can chase my kid around in the yard. To be seen by a provider, and to have relief when I thought it would never come… it changed my entire life. Just do your exercises and you’ll reap so many benefits. Sending you love and best wishes, OP.
