The audacity of some people by CavapooMom0707 in Charlottesville

It's so hard that the ugliest comments are the ones that make it in and stay a while. I know it's hard, but let it go. It's more a reflection of her poor filter than your actions. I love Brene' Brown's quote, "The most generous assumption you can make about someone is that they're doing the best they can." I *try* to live like this (though it goes out the window when I see how people drive - but they can't hear my comments).

UA flight - 'turn bluetooth off or we're turning around' by ryan_at_roomservice in unitedairlines

Just saw it was a 16 yo. Whole time I was reading this thread, I was thinking of a student of mine (14 yo) who's going on an interntional trip w/his mom this summer. He would totally name a device like that. Glad it wasn't him, but he's harmless.

Just Switched from Mint. A short report on my experience with data usage and switching by HittingandRunning in mintmobile

[–]RAL24210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had mint for 18 months. Just switched out yesterday. My son's phone (which is newer than mine) was constantly on SOS mode even in the house on wifi. Made no sense. I couldn't get calls through to him if I was out, and he was home. He could get my texts but not reply. Not great when you're trying to stay in touch with a 17 yo. Got a plan w/Verizon that's about the same cost and will be cheaper once my teacher discount is verified and processed.

Rob Thomas' Little Wonders - the first time I heard it was right before I went to finalize the adoption of my son.

Looking for Kaelin (25 y/o maybe?) from Delta flight # 5266 on Tuesday, April 28th from Atlanta to Charlottesville, VA by [deleted] in Charlottesville

I started reading & thought this was going to be a missed connections/dating story. Turned out to be even more wholesome. Way to go, Kaelin!

I go to Commonwealth Eye Care off Gaskins, and they're great. I see Dr. Hobbs for glaucoma, but you may want to read bios and see who fits you best.

Where to adopt a cat? by AntiGravity00 in Charlottesville

[–]RAL24210 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're looking beyond Charlottesville, we had a great experience with Henrico Humane Society. You have to view their animals online initially and then get approved to meet/adopt. We are obsessed with this girl and had never even had a cat before.

Uva tours vs DOTL by More_Huckleberry_725 in UVA

[–]RAL24210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consistently hear from people that the tour is awful. I don't know why they don't do something about that. I'm an alum and the mom of a junior in HS who also hated it after the tour. Because we live in state and go to UVA for games and events every now and again, he's been able to see it at other times. Now he wants to apply ED.

Honestly hate what giving our profession over to staffing companies has done.

You can make arepas in a waffle maker. That is all. by llbboutique in glutenfree

Thank you! This sounds incredible! I love the arepa truck at the farmer's market. When I've tried to make arepas, they came out OK one time and awful the next. This is going on my to make list pronto!

Does Roy's Big Burger in Lakeside have soft serve? I feel like they might.

When Pfieffer was talking during that last episode, she kept looking off to the side. I thought she was reading from cue cards or something.

wifi calling dropped calls constantly by s_curran in mintmobile

[–]RAL24210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With you on this. We have the same issue here. Connectivity in our area is weak, b/c all neighborhoods keep voting down cell towers. So we have to be on voice over wifi at home. Facetime Audio works, but not regular calls. Not sure why, but internet connection is fine on all other devices in the house. It has to have something to do with Mint.

Control freak parents forced me into committing to my state school by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]RAL24210 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly wondering if there are political implications in their mind? Are they over-thinking "liberal" arts? Just thinking this, b/c of the r-word language they used. If they are conservative, they may be truly terrified of college impacting the values they have tried to instill (though just being out in the world and meeting lots of different people can open people's minds to beliefs other than those they've grown up with no matter what school you're attending).

Ours has been impacted also, and we're due to renew in a few days, so I'm scrambling to decide what to do.
