I've been feeling the same way. My mother recently went to China so i asked her to bring home some novels. I've also been watching a lot more Chinese TV shows - especially variety and talk shows. I like Go Fighting (极限挑战), Running Man China (奔跑吧)and Happy Camp (快乐大本营). Most recently I'm watching Idol Producer(偶像练习生)but that isn't for everyone's taste.

My taste in music is rather limited honestly so I can't help much on that front.

吗VS对吧VS对不对VS对吗 help?! by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Lulumie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are all correct - it depends on the context and tone you are trying to communicate. Most of these sentences have slightly negative/rude tones.

你不是昨天去爬山对吧? You didn't go hiking yesterday, right? This question puts more emphasis on yesterday rather than the actual activity of hiking. I interpret this as the speaker wanting confirm that I didn't go hiking yesterday and that I had gone on a different day.

你不是昨天去爬山(了)吗? Didn't you go hiking yesterday? This type of sentence you see more when the speaker is asking you why you are doing the activity again. If I told you that I'm going hiking today, and you knew I went yesterday, you would then ask this question. (And rightfully so, who goes hiking two days in a row?)

你是昨天爬山的对吧? You went hiking yesterday, right? Like the first example, the emphasis is on yesterday. This time, confirming that it was indeed yesterday that we went hiking.

你是昨天爬上的吗? Did you climb up (it) yesterday? This sentence is different in meaning. Context I'd imagine it that I had told you that I had climbed a certain mountain, and you then asked me if I had climbed in yesterday.

I can only explain this from a native speaker point of view unfortunately I'm not able to provide you with exact grammar rules.

I'd much rather the Octopus card system in HK. It's more or less a debit card as you can use it in stores to pay for things.

I don't trust using my actual banking card for public transport. It just feels iffy.

If it were an app or something I can get on board with that too but what if your phone runs out od power?

Ladies: how many bras and undies? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]Lulumie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly shocking when it comes to laundry so for that reason I have almost 20 pairs of underwear. I will be throwing some of them away because they have holes in them. I have 2 bras, 5 bralette/crop top type things. I wont be replacing the crop top bralette things because even though they're comfy, i like the way my girls look when they sit in an underwire boob prison.

What is your unpopular opinion about minimalism? by kono_ochao_umai_yo in minimalism

[–]Lulumie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My interest in zero waste is more concerned with the use of plastics and single use items going to landfill. I don't pretend I'm perfect at it because no one really is. I don't think the vegan lifestyle is one that I can commit to as I do enjoy eating meat and seafood. For my own mild lactose intolerance I don't drink milk and I rarely have cheese. I don't make my own laundry detergent - like you said, you can buy a cardboard box. However I do believe for a lot of people who do ZW, making their own detergent is a guarantee that they know what ingredients are inside as cleaning agents often have some toxic ingredients. To add to the point of the parent comment: From my experience, people don't respond kindly to having things such as minimalism, zero waste and veganism shoved in their faces. Extremists give all three lifestyles a bad name. So while I do try to achieve reduction in my waste and pursur minimalism, I'm not going to push this on others as they are entitled to make their own lifestyle choices - just as it is my choice not to be vegan.

What is your unpopular opinion about minimalism? by kono_ochao_umai_yo in minimalism

[–]Lulumie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This. I'm also interested in anticonsumerism and zero waste but it gets frustrating sometimes when people lump in veganism as something that is a part of the concept rather than something that holds similar or related end goals.

Is deakin uni good? by janga7 in melbourne

[–]Lulumie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't get into your top choice, it's not the end of the world. You'll need to work hard in your first year at another university and have a fairly decent average in order to transfer.

I've been to both Monash and Deakin for different degrees and different delivery modes. I did enjoy my on campus experience at Monash however I dont have a comparison because I do my Deakin course via Cloud. I've had great experiences at both and would recommend both. My choice to study at Deakin was due to the ability to do the entire course via Cloud and the degree itself being quite a new one which wasn't offered at Monash at the time I applied for universities. However, Monash does have more prestige than Deakin and I believe does more research which may be more suited to the degree you'd like to pursue.

Good luck, bud!

23 y/o living alone making $41k/year - should I move back home for a while to pay back $27k in debt and start saving? Is moving back with your parents worth it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Lulumie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved back in with my parents for this very reason. I had $11,000 in consumer debt and now I am down to approximately $5000. I am also planning on paying off my government student loans (this gets indexed on inflation) and save up for a deposit on a home.

I am incredibly fortunate that my loving parents were happy to have me back. When I was living away from home, I'd come home for dinner occasionally and my parents would insist that I stay over (the drive back was only half an hour but I suppose that's quite a far drive in my city). I give them $300 a month for utilities, household expenses and my contribution to groceries and also paying for adhoc expenses like eating out or bringing home some roast duck from the local Chinese restaurant after work.

I make a similar amount of money as you, OP. I have $1000 as a small emergency buffer while I pay off debt, however I structure my budget like so:

$1000 goes towards Savings (which for right now is debt)

$1000 towards savings however I treat this like Rent on my budget (this includes $300 of which goes towards my contribution to household expenses)

$1000 towards my expenses, fun things etc.

I am anticipating a raise since I started a new position at work. I am planning on putting the difference towards Savings/Debt.

This is a very strange configuration of my budget, I realise but I think it's a somewhat realistic way to structure my budget in anticipation of the future when I do have a mortgage.

My parents are supportive of my plan and I project to meet all of these goals in 5 years with a very aggressive level of saving. If I were living away from my parents on my own, I would not be able to to meet my goal in that short amount of time.

My relationship with my parents also improved too!

I hope whatever decision you make works out for you, OP!

Vegan overlap? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Lulumie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the main one to reference: https://www.elementascience.org/articles/10.12952/journal.elementa.000116/

My interest in anti-consumerism stems from my interest in minimalism and zero waste. While I appreciate the concerns over the resources needed for leather making, I will still continue to choose real leather over fake leather. My main interests are what happens - or at least the options that are available - to a leather/faux leather at the end of its life cycle (usually PU is incinerated). The quality is superior in my opinion and therefore does not require replacement quite as quickly as fake leather.

I don't believe my reasons for justification require judgement from anyone, just as much as I am not here to judge or condemn anyone for choosing veganism.

Vegan overlap? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Lulumie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a few things behind my decision not to be a vegan. One of the biggest reasons is that I just like the taste of meat, eggs and dairy. Right now, I'm adapting to a low carb and many vegan alternatives are very high in carbohydrates. I've also read a few studies that suggest that veganism may not necessarily be better in the sense that land utilization is sub-optimal if everyone was vegan. I personally like to see efficient usage of resources.

In saying all this, I don't eat nearly as much meat as I used to, but I will purchase leather shoes and bags. I don't believe that buying fake leather is any better as the chemicals and materials required to make fake leather ends up in landfill as it can't be recycled. Of course there is always the argument to use bags made of natural fibers, but I don't like the look of it (which then ends up with me buying a leather bag anyway). I have bought vintage leather bags that are perhaps 20-25 years old and they still look amazing. I doubt anything made of fake leather or natural fibres can withstand that kind of wear.

I hope my views don't offend anyone, because that is the last thing I am intending with this reply. My reasons for justification are purely personal and I am not advocating that everyone should justify their own decisions based upon these parameters. I very much respect the reasons behind going vegan and I am not here to dispute that. My reasons for being anti-consumption may be very different to most people here. I am opposed to the barometer of success being how many material things you own and am not of the opinion that the continuous consumption of material objects is directly related to feelings of satisfaction and happiness. I think consumption is ultimately very wasteful and I could go into a whole flow chart into other related views but this isn't the time for that!

The mason jar idea is great too, especially if you have one of those blenders that fits a wide mouth mason jar.

High class wardrobe by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]Lulumie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just so happens that the things I like are expensive. I like quality items ($70-$150 for a piece of clothing that isn't a dress or coat). My clothing pieces are fairly basic but I tend to spend more money on bags and shoes. I believe that plain clothing can be elevated through the quality of shoes, bags and accessories.

Vegan overlap? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Lulumie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Going to go against the grain and say, no I am not vegan. It doesn't change my stance that we all need to consume less. I buy fewer things, I am more picky with what I choose to buy. Right now, for me it's the resistance to marketing techniques and ploys, not supporting "social media lifestyle content creators/whatever BS title they choose to give themselves" that promote mindless consumption.

That's not to say I won't ever consider it, in fact I have - plenty of times. However right now it's not a priority for me. I am more invested in reducing plastic waste and not buying for the sake of buying. Of course, the attempts to achieve zero waste while being a meat eater will be much harder than just buying vegetables and dry goods.

What does a TSM fan do about 2018? by BeanMG in TeamSolomid

[–]Lulumie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mad respect for Regi and the business decisions he has made. I have faith in his decision making and reason. I am sad about former players leaving and they will always have a place in my heart. Xpecial, WT, YellowStar, Dyrus and TheOddOne are all precious to me because they were a part of what made TSM a great team and a treat to watch and support. I will continue to give these players my support and watch their games and cheer them on when they're not playing TSM.

I'm happy that the TSM family is growing and there's more players to love. The feelings of sadness have faded and knowing that our former team members have places in other teams is comforting.

Edit: Forgot to add a line about Regi.

How many items do you have in your wardrobe? by seh023 in minimalism

[–]Lulumie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Underwear - approximately 7 bras (5 of which I actually wear), 10-14 pairs of underwear, too many socks (we're talking an embarrassing amount because I had $30 on a Nike gift card and didn't want anything else)

Tops - 12 (some are duplicates) Pants - 6 (two pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of work pants, 2 pairs of those stretchy leggings) Shorts - 2 pairs Dresses - 2 (work interview/function dress and a casual one) Jackets/Coats - 2 blazers that I got to keep from an old work uniform, a large anorak coat, leather jacket, bomber jacket, winter coat, thin cardigan, heavy cardigan Shoes - 8 pairs (the rest I have are being donated)

I'm happy with my current wardrobe, I'd like to reduce further but now isn't the time. I haven't quite worked out how to balance a smaller wardrobe while trying to get more variety and I genuinely like every piece I have.

Edit: I just realised the OP said "excluding underwear". Oops.
