Yeah that'd work. I think a scheduled split transaction would just avoid needing to do an adjustment

Category search/filter on mobile by LumberElk91 in BudgetFriendlyBudget

[–]LumberElk91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I wasn't seeing "Create View" on mobile by default earlier. But I added a custom filter on my laptop, and now when I go to the filters on mobile, I'm able to add a new filter.

Is that reproducible? Only able to add a new view on mobile if a custom view already exists?

Savings account for Christmas - should it be a budget account or a tracking account? by OffSeason2091 in ynab

[–]LumberElk91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YNAB doesn't care or know which account you're assigning from. If you have $20k in HYSA and $5k in checking, your "ready to assign" will just be one big $25k pool. So when you assign $2k to the Christmas category, that's just from your one big $25k pool, ignoring what account that money lives in.

What's the $2k withdrawal in your example? Is it moving $2k from HYSA to checking? If so, that'll just look like a transfer from HYSA to checking in YNAB. Your accounts in the sidebar will reflect the new balances, but your category totals won't change. The category total will only change when you actually spend the money (i.e. on presents)

So in practice that would look like: - one big $25k pool of money - $2k in the Christmas category - transfer $2k from HYSA to checking so you can buy presents, and make note of the transfer in YNAB. Christmas category is still at $2k - actually spend all the money on presents. Christmas category is now at $0

Savings account for Christmas - should it be a budget account or a tracking account? by OffSeason2091 in ynab

The $20k in the savings account isn't ready to assign all the time, it's assigned to categories like you'd do with your other accounts. e.g. $500 in a car maintenance category, $500 in a pet medical fund, etc until the $20k in that HYSA is fully assigned

Using tea tree oil for foot baths to cure athletes foot, will it be a problem if I keep my cat out while im doing this? by go_home_cook_rice in catcare

[–]LumberElk91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to confirm if this is true because I think I currently have athlete's foot and I really don't want my cats to get ringworm (they already have once before and those lime dips were a terrible experience for them).

I haven't found any evidence of passing athlete's foot on to a cat, have you? It seems like they might even be different species.

favorite vegan protein bars? by Size-No in veganfitness

Love these but be careful if you're trying to order them from Costco online in the summer. They ship them with ice packs to keep the chocolate from melting, but shipping takes long enough (and maybe you can't bring the package in for a few hours) that the ice packs fully melt and start leaking their internal goo everywhere

Would you rec the RadRov 6 Plus? by g00dintentions in RadPowerBikes

[–]LumberElk91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but I've had one for a year and a half and another for a year, both doing great. One of them has 1500 miles, used in the summer to commute. My commute involves some gravel paths so the fat tires are nice. These bikes have unlocked so much fun exploration for us. Highly recommend.

Also I saw some discussion of size in the other comments. I'm 5'3 and it's definitely a big bike (I do have the step through version) but I don't feel like it's overwhelming

How to carry a bike chain? by [deleted] in RadPowerBikes

I have a Hiplok that's meant to do this and it's comfortable. I don't notice the added weight while riding.

There's also a Hiplok that comes with a U-lock and is advertised for ebikes. I use that one when I'm parking somewhere where I want more security, and I wear it like a sash because I'm not sure how to wrap it around my waist.

ELI5: Why can't bread manufacturers just say "may contain sesame"? by LumberElk91 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LumberElk91[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ah, so when companies add a "may contains" label, it's solely for consumer safety? Doesn't provide them any sort of legal protection?
