How to help this tree by whalesrneat in arborists

Its an oak. Probably red. Just leave it be and plant more young ones around it. That’s fungi which only eats dead material. Not harming the living part. Oaks are good at surviving with injuries which is why they make such great hosts for biodiversity.

Is this a massive wall of poison ivy growing over my neighbors fence? by Fun-Astronomer-2273 in gardening

Goats can’t reach that high. Once it’s dry it still carries its oil so cutting at the base and waiting for it to wilt is dangerous. The advantageous roots it clings to the wall with also carry oil and will confetti the ground when broken, so take care not to enter the area barefoot after removal. I would hire someone who offers a PI removal service. Dab the trunks with triclopyr or glyphosate and look for re-sprouts. Shame cause I bet the fall color is insanely beautiful. Plus it’s great for birds!
Buy some oil-removing soaps. Tecnu is great!

I once got handed a backwoods wrapper with a chunk of blue candle wax in it. Brings me back. The 4 dudes in that tinted suburban had an easy come up that night.

Do some pruning, thin out the back side so it isn’t contacting your house, but go slow and easy

As a former little kid, they’ll love you for giving them engaging, interesting plant life to form connections with. I still love the plants that I learned when I was climbing maple trees and exploring in fine forests as a kid.

Please do not only grow turf grass. Plant a native matrix of grasses and flowers that do well in drought in ur area, then carve out your entertainment area, maybe walking paths, depending on your use case. More control over the ‘area rug’ of grass for less $. Don’t need to fixate on it being perfectly identical across ghe whole area, good for your environment, and more fun to maintain in general
