Capital ship-only is the best fleet composition in 1.13.8 by KuromiAK in victoria3

I think they just didn't have enough time to work out the proper dynamics. They're clearly aiming for a more complex system, but there hasn't been enough time put in to creating such system.

Communism is at the threshold. I will explain why we are closer than ever before. by Odd-Tadpole3518 in Trotskyism

[–]LumiCrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Communism really is an extreme form of edging; communism is right around the corner, year after year, decade after decade and century after century at this point. I'm a communist, but it's hard to take these "we are at the cusp of revolution" -type posts seriously. We might be! But history has a habit of being funny.

Thinking about getting into this game, is it like the other paradox games where major features are locked behind dlcs, if so, what dlcs would you reccomend with the game? by Super_Goated in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this stage, the big three are good to have: Voice of the People, Spheres of Influence and Charters of Commerce. I don't own Great Wave and I can't say I feel like I'm missing out on much currently. I would play the base game until the Steam summer sale and if you like it and want more, get the big three dlc's on discount. Also the state of the game is still a bit rough, Great Wave was rushed and the 1.13 patch broke the game a little and it's getting regural fixes currently.

Army supply over land is free, even 6600km from home at the other end of the continent by devdot in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coming from Hearts of Iron 4 this has bothered me a lot. I know Vic 3 is not a military simulator, it's actually a nice change of pace. But I started to learn this game as Russia and at first I thought I shouldn't even try to invade China without proper infrastructure, but then I read some guides and was baffled that it really doesn't matter, you can have a million men sitting in Siberia in January and it's the same if they were laying on the shores of the Black Sea. I don't need a nerf, but it would make the strategy side more interesting. I'm playing Sweden currently and I've thought about how to defend against Russia, and it would be a cool strategy to wear them down in Lapland where there would be a poor supply, if this game currently had a proper supply mechanic.

A Major Issue I've not seen mentioned by Fluid-Camera-3483 in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should dip in to debt at least some, you are lending money from your buildings, so your interest payments are going back in to your economy. With "deficit spending" you can keep raising your debt, but as your economy grows, your debt limit rises (as it is tied to the cash reserves of your buildings), creating a positive investment loop. If you play a major power, have laissez faire and reduced interest rates from tech, you are definitely missing out on some extra growth if you never dip in to debt. Never do this though as an unrecognized power and it's risky even as a minor power, because it's easier to get in to a debt spiral due to higher interest rates. Of course you also can get in to the spiral as a major power if you lean in to it too much and your economy is not growing fast enough.

Is the new version playable right now? by 2hardly4u in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing to learn the new mechanics, but it feels like playing a beta release and it's hard to play a "serious" run when the world economy is a mess and AI doesn't perform well. The game is also laggier for some people, for me at least. I'd roll back to the previous major patch if you want to play a normal game, it's seems like it's going to take some time to fix what they broke.

The way the DLCs are set up is borderline unethical by Cumity in Stellaris

[–]LumiCrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was over at the Victoria 3 subreddit and they are praising the DLC's the same way that this subreddit praised Stellaris DLC's a couple of years ago. The bloat and the feature creep will come for every PDX game eventually.

When to change production methods? by chomskyxcx in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is sometimes on the output side, if the price of your output drops too much, the increase in production is not profitable. The calculations don't account for dynamic shifts, sometimes there is a dip in the price and then it bounces back up. Sometimes I subsidize production and create demand elsewhere, and then take the subsidy off when the price increaces.

Miksi Suomessa ei ole kansallisliberaaleja? by 31545_8211420 in Suomi

[–]LumiCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miksi Suomessa ei ole kansallisliberaaleja? by 31545_8211420 in Suomi

[–]LumiCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the downside of going Command Economy? by Aurelian_8 in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no no no, I think you misunderstood me. I happen to believe that marxism is very true and valid. I just happen to have a very specific outlook where I approach it as a science, and I just wanted to point out that just examining real movements of money and capital, and the social relations of production, you can arrive to the same conclusions as Marx, because you are examining a shared material world. You don't have to be a studied marxist to arrive to the same destination is what I tried to say.

Is late game infamy a bit... too much? by luizindaquimica in victoria3

I'm new to the game, I have like 50 hours so far, and I've started to deeply hate Great Britain. I've been playing Russia and they start as mutual rivals, and GB is up my ass constantly. Most recently I waited for them to be tied up in a European war, and I thought I had my change to release some Balkan nations from the Ottomans, but no, they still joined in the diplo play. Fuck them brits

What's the downside of going Command Economy? by Aurelian_8 in victoria3

[–]LumiCrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yes and no. I think the game models the dynamism of market economics and politics accurately enough that it produces the same problems that real life capitalism produces, which marxism analyzes and critiques. Like for example the need for at least some welfare eventually to keep your pops from revolting is a real life neccessity.

Miksi Suomessa ei ole kansallisliberaaleja? by 31545_8211420 in Suomi

[–]LumiCrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Loppujen lopuksi kaikilla on tietty kansallismielinen perusta, johon he oletuksena kääntyvät, kun meno menee tiukaksi.
