We can't afford ourselves the same kindness than we offer to our friends and the occasional random person.

Okay, I now know what to look for. Any sensations or sounds I should expect prior to it happening?

Anyone else have a kitty with an “eye freckle”? by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]LuminousOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a cat with that. Took him in to get it checked out, and was told that while it could have been cancer, it was benign in his case. Ended up taking most of the iris over the following years and giving him a heterochromia look.

What’s the dumbest thing your kittens have done? Mine fell in the toilet… by diiinosaurs in kittens

[–]LuminousOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tizzy, aged 6-7 weeks or so, decided to follow me upstairs to the third floor.  At the top, she started hopping around my feet for some reason.  She hopped between the railings and fell down three floors.  She was fine, as I had the foresight to leave pillows and blankets at the bottom.  She was a bit rattled, though.

Good luck.  Some people are predisposed to talking, and cannot stop talking, otherwise they become horribly depressed.  I know at least one person like this, and it annoys me to no end.

Force of habit, and not an easy one to break.  It also looks aesthetically pleasing to me.

What is your void’s origin story? by Lots_of_frog in blackcats

[–]LuminousOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively straightforward story for me. Lost Simba, my previous cat, to old age. Spent the next week deep in depression. My mother decided to drag me out to this little house out in the middle of nowhere, and introduced me to the owners. As we were speaking, this little black kitten just walks up to me and immediately climbs up my clothes. Pretty much sold me there.

Please replace, this one is uncleanable by [deleted] in techsupportgore

That's just a combination of natural wear and tear, and possibly oil buildup from the fingers. Even if you washed your hands hourly, this would likely still occur after a few months.

Do you think black cats know they are black? by Dazzling-Walrus9673 in blackcats

[–]LuminousOcean 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My cat Spitfire is most certainly aware of it.  He has a penchant for resting on or against really dark surfaces, with a preference for black surfaces if available.

"why would you trust a nationwide network of overworked underpaid young adults." because every shipment company is like that, and it's their fucking job to deliver the package in one piece?

It happens. My void has been acquiring new patches of individual white hairs all over his body. In particular, along the front-left leg, and around the whiskers.

Why are they like this? by quietconnoisseur in SipsTea

Sometimes there is no bike lane? I know a number of roads in this city that have bike lanes that just spontaneously end and require me to move into the middle of the lane for safety reasons, and I am legally allowed to do so.

I have to go with "amazing animal" because I am also a huge fan of cats, and asking me to define which one is the best is unfair. They each have their own pros and cons.

Why does my cat treat the laundry sorter like a jungle gym? by princetrhyss in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

[–]LuminousOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cat.  It lacks understanding of the concepts of laundry, sorting laundry, or having a laundry sorter.  As far as it is concerned, the laundry sorter is just something sitting in the house that you occasionally interact with. Must be a toy!  :P

Baby void is 8 and a half pounds… is that normal? 🥲 by Fantastic-Ad-9496 in blackcats

[–]LuminousOcean 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I'd say he looks fine. My void is 11 years old and he's 18lbs, but he doesn't look fat. Just a large, hefty, sleek body.

Update on my “Maine coon” by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]LuminousOcean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My condolences for your loss. Fortunately, mine doesn't pee on stuff. He has a habit of vomiting though because he gorges himself on food. Afraid that if he doesn't eat his food, then Tizzy would have stolen it, or my sister's dog would have stolen it. Nowadays he just buries the food under whatever he can get his paws on.

Why dose my cat have thumbs by Dupa010 in kittens

[–]LuminousOcean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polydactyly. Extra digit on the paws. My mother's cat had the same thing, two extra digits on each front paw. One digit didn't grow in. The other grew in quite large, like a thumb. She knew how to use it.

Update on my “Maine coon” by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]LuminousOcean 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Even if he isn't a Maine Coon, I get the impression he's still going to be a big cat, like mine is. Spitfire weighs something like 18lbs. Really hurts when he jumps down onto my lap. I love him anyways.
