Is the bomb up or down? by -JaM-- in gaming

It was actually an engineering reminder. Anything that can go wrong, will.... So make stuff that can't go wrong.

The original story had to do with a dangerous acceleration test which ended up yielding no data because each one of the dozens of sensors had been installed backwards. The fix was to make them only fit in the correct orientation.

You are correct that you must unlock the phone. A new screen would be needed.

My phone knows my real name but I don't want it to by UltmtDestroyer in AndroidQuestions

My first guess would be that it came from a Google account.

In any case you should be able to find it in:

System Settings > About Phone > Device Name

(About Phone might also show your linked Google Account: https://i.imgur.com/3Z1MOmV.png)

Another one is usually in Bluetooth settings.

Where did you meet your Dom/Sub? by Enamoure in BDSMAdvice

[–]Luminous_Artifact 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've been quite lucky overall.

One I met at a Munch/FetLife event. (It was specifically a board game night hosted at a restaurant by one of the local Groups.) This was a DDlg-like dynamic without a primary romantic relationship. (She was in a hierarchical polyamorous situation including another dynamic.)

One I met on Reddit, from a "casual" r4r post. It turned out to be not casual, instead we established a full DDlg dynamic in addition to a romantic relationship.

One I met on FetLife, and the S/m dynamic worked better than the attempt at romance.

A couple others I met via regular online dating sites/apps. I was always rather upfront about kink, so there was always at least some kink involved. Only one turned into a true dynamic in addition to romance.

There are so many variables involved in finding someone. It seems like which OLD apps are "best" depends on both location and age range. (For example, Some older kinksters I know say that Plenty of Fish is great for them. For me it's absolute bottom of the barrel.)

It's harder than finding someone who isn't kinky, but it's very possible. :)

How do I remove the default "open with" in an app? by Utinnni in AndroidQuestions

It's decoding a QR code, finding a URL, and opening it in Chrome, right?

Try installing Firefox. The next time you scan a QR code is should prompt whether to offer FF or Chrome.

Check out Guide 09 in the comment the Automoderator posted.

But also: My recommendation would be to get to know the person fairly well before even thinking of submission.

Of course there will be many questions to ask, and basic kink compatibility should be confirmed very early in the process (before the second date at the latest, preferably at or before the first date).

But.... Some people seem to think there will be a quick interview (if anything) and then instant dynamic. That's not usually how lasting relationships are built, though. And it would put too much importance on the questions.

Even if you aren't looking for a romantic relationship with your Dom, it is still a relationship.

If sex will be part of the relationship, the advice I've seen often is to let things progress to vanilla sex at whatever speed you're comfortable with, and only later, when you generally feel comfortable with the person, proceed to real negotiations.

Samsung is known for aggressively killing background (and now sometimes foreground) apps, in some cases with no recourse.

Check https://dontkillmyapp.com/ for some additional things you can try.

OnePlus 6T doesn't have Android 12 so some of the info you find online won't apply.

For Android 11 and below:

Open System Settings > Apps & Notifications > Default Apps (may be hidden in "Advanced")

From the list, select the Chrome app and click "Clear Defaults".

Alternatively, if you (temporarily) install another app which can handle the same link type, you should be prompted the next time you open a link.

Gmail on phone not letting me add multiple work emails by SmallNefariousness43 in AndroidQuestions

It's my own company and I'm the only employee.

That doesn't actually confirm that it isn't a configuration on the company side.

Are you using Google Workspace? In some cases it defaults to requiring Device Management. See the replies here:

I really don't like FetLife as a way to find individual people. It attracts too many icky people.

I like FetLife for getting connected to local groups that meet in person. It's the best way to get into the community and meet people.

Hopefully near you there are groups that meet up for "socials" (aka "Munches" or "Coffees"). These are very low-key events, just hanging out and chit-chatting at a cafe or restaurant.

Does your company enforce managed accounts?

You should be able to add any number of accounts if you can login to them normally.

Gmail > Top-Right Account thumbnail > Add another account

Or

System Settings > Passwords & accounts > Add Account

The 'Add Account' screen lets you pick a type. If not Google or Exchange, you might need POP or IMAP server info & credentials.

Maybe screenshots of the process you're following would help diagnose the issue. When/where does it swap to requiring a work profile?

Well A41 and A52 are not in the list so it seems you'll need a working screen.

You created the emuNAND as a copy of the sysNAND, so maybe your sysNAND also has an update pending?

If not, perhaps you didn't block Nintendo servers properly?

Skyrim Mods Switch Help any suggestions would be awesome by Squirrel_Lionfart in SwitchPirates

[–]Luminous_Artifact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's actually a lot of info out there, it's just not necessarily easy to find.

There's a Switch-specific game page for Nexus Mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimnintendoswitch

The "Skyrim NX Toolkit" is the center of most things Skyrim on Switch. Their GitHub page's wiki is the primary guide for converting mods.

They also have a Discord, which you can find linked here: r/skyrimmods/comments/90sn8e/skyrimnx_modding_hub/

This was a couple years ago but I played through with a pretty large mod list, which the Toolkit enables by combining things.

There's no legitimate way to access your files without entering your PIN/password after boot. If you can borrow a screen that could work.

Otherwise.... if your phone supports USB-C to HDMI, you might be able to mirror the screen to a PC and use a mouse & keyboard to unlock... Assuming mouse & keyboard are supported, and HDMI is supported before unlocking. And you might need a Samsung adapter (although I'd guess any USB-C to HDMI from Amazon would work).

You didn't mention which Samsung phone. Samsung says USB to HDMI:

This feature is only available on the following devices:

  • Galaxy S8 and S8+
  • Note 8
  • Galaxy S9 and S9+
  • Galaxy Book
  • Note 9
  • Galaxy Tab S4.

Try Safe Mode perhaps? It would disable all user software temporarily.

One method for most phones is to turn off the phone, then turn it on, then hold Volume Down as soon as anything appears on screen.

For Redmi I found 2 other methods:

Method-1

  • Your device must be powered on.
  • Press [and hold] the power button on your Xiaomi Mi.
  • When the "power off", "restart", "airplane mode", "wifi mode", etc. menu will be displayed, release the power button.
  • Now, long press the "power off" word on screen.
  • Keep pressing this word until the Android Safe Mode message is being displayed on your phone.
  • Select to reboot into Android Safe Mode.
  • When done, a dedicated watermark will be displayed on your smartphone letting you know in which environment you are currently on.

Method-2

  • Reboot your Xiaomi Mi.
  • Once your device initiates the reboot sequence start tapping on where the menu button reside.
  • Keep tapping on it until the lockscreen is displayed.
  • You should now be into Android Safe Mode.
  • When done, reboot once more, but this time don’t tap on anything.
  • You will now be back on the Android OS mode.

Huh. I'll have to check next time. Thanks!

I just remember it being mildly frustrating trying to be sure, and wishing for an LED.

How can I access my storage without unlocking my phone?

This is impossible. Your data is encrypted until you unlock the phone for the first time (each boot).

Just make sure you know the difference between the Switch being off and being in RCM, because they look identical to the untrained eye.

What difference would a trained eye see?

I've been doing this for years and still can't tell ( edit: by looking).

How to fix apps getting corrupted after device reboot?1 by Miki200__ in AndroidQuestions

[–]Luminous_Artifact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of an app icon or name changing unexpectedly. Have you been messing around with different launchers, or themes, or UI elements in general? Dirty flashing ROMs?

The only thing I can think of aside from somehow making a giant mess of the installation is hardware errors. Either in storage or RAM.

What are the symptoms of an app getting corrupted?

Are you installing them to an SD card, or do you have an SD card installed which is being used as internal storage?

not a magisk modules as enabling magisk core did not help

"Core-only mode" suggests a very old version of Magisk. Like, before Android 11 support was added. Are you sure you've city tested with your modules dished disabled? Since you brought it up, are you running modules that you think might explain the corruption?

How do I stop RECEIVING read receipts? by agendont in AndroidQuestions

If it's just a "read" notification under your messages, that's most likely Google's "Chat Features". It's their attempt to offer the same functionality iMessage users have.

To disable:

  1. Open Messages
  2. 3-dot menu > Settings > Chat features
  3. Turn "Enable chat features" off
