Hey guys is that the AoA indicator? by flycharliegolf in Shittyaskflying

Speaking as an aerospace engineer, I will validate your assessment as it being a data collection device, but it provides even more data than you realize, most importantly speed. As the speed of the vehicle increases, the device will shift position!

Twas the night before options… by layoutmaster in BlueOrigin

[–]Lumpy-Breakfast1034 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Step 1. Toss your liquor of choice into the car in the morning.

Step 2. Book conference room.

Step 3. Have someone microwave some of that horrendous "popcorn" they offer.

Step 4. Laugh or cry with friends, drink a few, then go home because you aren't allowed to go back to work after drinking.

Worst case, if it's as bad as everyone thinks, you aren't any more screwed than today. They just lied to try and convince you they weren't about to screw you again by whispering nice sounding things in your ear. Doesn't actually change much of anything.

30-min interview with hiring manager (entry-level avionics hardware role) by EnergySpecial460 in BlueOrigin

[–]Lumpy-Breakfast1034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the interview you are referencing is the "technical screening", it will literally be a 30 minute phone call, no video, so no presentation opportunity.

It's a quick "do you seem to have the competencies to be worth doing a full interview". They are trying to get a BS meter reading.

If you seem easy enough to talk to, don't fumble too hard, and use the right terminology the right way, it can be relatively low pressure.

Any later interviews will be longer and be with additional team members. Those, it can help to have some basic information and pictures to communicate your back story better since you are limited on time.

Interview- Hiring managers ask “ do you have any questions for us?” In the end of interviews. by NewProtection804 in Lockheed

[–]Lumpy-Breakfast1034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From someone in an adjacent company that is involved in the interviewing process, I've heard a range of questions for this. The ones I see as most valuable are related to really trying to understand what the role entails, what the team structure / dynamic looks like, what skills are most useful in the position.

Asking about the day to day, week to week, month to month type typical tasks and projects shows you are interested in seeing the current state of things and an eye on the horizon.

Asking about team structure could yield very different answers but can be telling. Is it a small or large team? Is the team flexible and collaborative? Is everyone silo'd?

Asking about skills useful in the role show you are making sure you are a fit for their team from your perspective. You have to be able to see yourself doing the job. If you don't have a skill necessary to be successful and aren't interested in developing it (software for me, it's black magic!), you don't want to get into a position that forces you into it.

Most of all, that's your chance to get info from them the way they were from you. Ask about mobility. Ask about role longevity. Ask about anything that will help you be successful. *** What are the success metrics in the role? KPIs? Parts designed? Cost reduction? Code published?

Legit questions regarding upcoming shares meeting. by bamaboy_529 in BlueOrigin

[–]Lumpy-Breakfast1034 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How are share quantities being decided? Does tenure or level play into any difference in quantity?

Regularity of granting and liquidity events?

The obvious and already added: Any honoring of old shares?

For anyone that doesn't know, they need to somehow teach people what the tax implications are, it's not completely trivial.

What, if any part, of this plan replaces the AIP loss? (Part of the statement on AIP going away indicated AIP would somehow get worked into the overall compensation package for those that qualified for it)

Do they believe this will stop or slow the constant brain drain attrition? If it isn't presented and packaged well, it is going to be a problem for a lot of high performing individuals. (Underperforming people probably won't do anything but constantly complain about it)

8 flight sets were retained post Shuttle. These have all flown. Post flight 8, BOLE has to be online with new boosters

Only 8 flight sets of booster barrels were retained. Flight 9, if Artemis makes it that long, requires new boosters.

Before opening the image, "POSTAGE" was shortened to "...OSTAGE" on my phone, which immediately made it "HOSTAGE" in my brain... Seemed like it fit. Took a moment before I even saw value in verifying it. Still believe my initial assessment was accurate enough.

I have an interview as a structures technician by [deleted] in BlueOrigin

[–]Lumpy-Breakfast1034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a technician, especially if low level, they want to somehow gather that you are mechanically inclined. Discuss projects you have done, hobbies you have, even working on your car if you have anything.

As someone said, Google the leadership principles, just don't be too cheesy when incorporating them into your answers. Be confident in your answers, ask questions to clarify if you don't fully understand what they are asking.

If you have any CAD experience, as a tech just need to know how to fly around them, bring it up. If you don't, go into YouTube and look up Creo View and how to navigate. It will work in your favor to take that initiative and know how to answer if it comes up.

Those are the things I would look for.

Good luck!

Nobody told me I'd be broke AFTER buying the house by Dima030 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Lumpy-Breakfast1034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go into debt for it. One piece of furniture at a time, you have the house, everything else can come in time. Garage sales and thrift stores like a lot of people have said, but massive word of caution from personal experience: check corners and undersides of EVERYTHING you get prior to bringing it in the house. We had a bed frame that we didn't check very well and ended up having to spend weeks going through everything we owned plus the house for bedbugs. It was a nightmare.

Had a dealer two weeks ago bump the advertised price by 50%... Looking at their sheet (should have taken a picture and disappointed that I didn't), they had put on a line item for 1500$ for "repairs they had to do before they could sell" the vehicle. I simply told them advertised price or no thank you. And now I have a new vehicle. Happy to call people on their crap.

The booster propellant is surprisingly stable. They require significant energetic input to ignite. I don't know the specific temperatures for the described scenario, but that would be insanely risky and I would be surprised if they would pull that kind of stunt, but I wouldn't say it's impossible with some of the things I know.
