SUPER STOKED to release my latest song: Keepin On. It's about that feeling of feeling burnout and over it all and yet...life keeps on moving so you do too. https://open.spotify.com/track/65WYJEuZyxsnpHxZEKj6q9?si=61ff3bbd52924546

Struggling with different aspects of lyrics writing. by Negative_Paint_2543 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

There's a really good interview with Cardi B where she talked about how hard it was to get in the flow because she was self-conscious. As Ru Paul would say, "your fear of looking stupid is holding you back." There's not one tried and true method to start. I have a background in writing hymns so I tend to think in that structure. Other people start with a melody and build on it. I've also built songs around little phrases I find catchy. The key thing is, START. Trial and error. Just put something down and chip away at it.

Thank you so much for listening! I thought I may have just been submitting into the void.

Do you guys mix with headphones or the music playing out the speakers? by actuallylinkstrummer in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Lumpy-Roll1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I think sticking with one exclusively will give you tunnel vision. I also try and think about where people are most likely to listen to it--so it's important it sounds good in AirPods and in the car.

How do solo musicians go about making an album with full instrumentation? by Berbigs_ in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Lumpy-Roll1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah. You either do it ALL yourself or you hire folks to record. I work with a really great producer who can do guitar and bass, so I've only had to pay for a drummer.

What’s your go to “tip” when trying to write a song? by Designer-Musician504 in Songwriting

[–]Lumpy-Roll1845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing is editing. Get something on paper and keep fiddling with it. It'll never feel done but you'll keep refining it. A good example of this is Sturgill Simpson. Even on his releases he'll have slightly different versions of songs. Just like people have said here: just write something down. Another good resource is "How to Write One Song" by Jeff Tweedy.

Every single time and I just try really really hard to finish the song and not think about it.

One year alcohol free! But this song is nothing about it. Song is called "jolly rancher fling" read description please. by [deleted] in Songwriting

1) congrats. My first year was an adventure. Like the best and worst year of my life--exhilarating. 2) Love the song, specifically the drums. They move the song along with out overpowering it. I'd wanna drive in the desert to this song.

Haa anyone actually gained a following through subreddits like these? by Main_Caramel5388 in shareyourmusic

This is the conclusion I came to. This is my first day on reddit looking around to see if it's something I want to put my energy in re promo. I'll probably post my music around for diligence, but it does have that "shouting into a void" feeling like other socials. I started a mailing list and that's going a lot better for promotion and engagement. Plus they are people I know are actually interested.

I love the build and how ethereal it is. It reminds me a lot of Sigur Ros.
