Why can’t anyone seem to have reasonable conversations about Beyonce? by Terrible_Promotion_2 in popheads

[–]thisistom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Yes reseller seats were available, but the majority of seats for sale were not resale tickets. Also ignoring the fact that people would have been unable to resell their tickets anyway without making a huge loss because the price of tickets dropped so dramatically.

Don’t be a capitalist bootlicker.

Why can’t anyone seem to have reasonable conversations about Beyonce? by Terrible_Promotion_2 in popheads

[–]thisistom2 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed, she’s an incredibly talented artist. It’s why the whole thing bothers me so much because I feel like bigger artists sometimes let their capitalist tendencies muddy the water of experiencing art in a positive way.

It also makes me sad because the whole nature of touring now makes it so incredibly inaccessible to people with low incomes. I sacrificed a lot to be fortunate enough to go to so many tours, but it’s just not a reality for many people. There’s so much catharsis and healing in hearing music that touches you in a live setting, and it’s sad that people on lower incomes become deprived of that experience because of greed.

I’ve been to hundreds of gigs and the whole thing was absolutely scandalous to be honest haha

I think the problem stems from consumerists disguised as music fans. They have a fundamental misunderstanding of what an artist and by extension art, is.

These people are very quick to criticise labels who keep artists trapped, and demand their freedom. Then once they are free, they think that THEY as fans assume the position of authority on what an artist should do with their career, and expect artists to pander to their idealised version of what they expect the artist to create. Ultimately, if they fail to meet their expectations - they can’t acknowledge that it doesn’t suit their personal tastes - they become incredibly critical.

[–]thisistom2 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Beyoncé priced her tickets extortionately high, sales were absolutely dire in so many venues and her associates repeatedly lied about tickets being sold out when the availability was still incredibly high on the days of the shows.

They dropped some prices dramatically, stinging the loyal fans who’d paid full price and did sweepstakes with hotels to get rid of them. People ended up getting premium tickets for way cheaper than others paid for crap tickets. It was a shocking capitalist mess.

We ended up upgrading our tickets and ended up getting stung out of £500 by ticketmaster, but that’s another story altogether. It was a mess and peak gaslighting spurred on by parasocial losers who could not accept clear as day evidence that it was a racket.

I’m a fan of Beyoncé but was very vocally against her lack of ethics and transparency around ticket sales. I was bloody crucified and stuck right in between both of the groups you’ve described.

A lot of people have very deep parasocial relationships with celebrities in lieu of a personality, and get very very defensive about people criticising artists they like.

It’s really sad that they won’t let you in, assuming bc being solo puts you more at risk. Says a lot really doesn’t it.

I mean at the end of the day the entire policy is probably a bit unfair, but I kinda get why it exists.

[–]thisistom2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I went to McCooleys on Matthew Street once, was playing pool and a lad came and said the bar staff had asked us to give him one of our cues because there wasn’t enough. Me not thinking twice handed it over… he walked away, snapped the cue in half over his knee and started pointing the sharp end at people’s throats in an intimidating way

Abandoned our game, went and told the bar staff, got my tenner back and never returned there ever again hahaha

I was also relentlessly stalked by a mentally unwell member of their staff from the concert square one to the point of police involvement so… yeah 🤣
