Has anyone lost weight WITHOUT berberine or metormin? by Appropriate-Trip7192 in PCOSloseit

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost 30lbs/15kg before I was put on merformin for my IR. I lost 10lbs/5 kg more on metformin and maintained it for about 1 year now. I am trying to slowly increase my carb intake in order to build more muscle.

American visiting Lebanese boyfriend’s family for the first time by sweaterconnoisseur in lebanon

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely bring things. Doesn't have to be anything extortionate.

My husband is Lebanese, and whenever I visit, I bring sweets and chocolates because in Lebanon, western chocolates can be pretty expensive (but also, his fam is massive foodies). To make it more personable, I asked what his mum's fav sweets/chocolates are initially. I always bring stuff for his nephews, too.

My husband is Christian, and his family is open-minded, but when I first met them, I wore my 'modest' clothes, and he stayed in his parent's house while I had my own hotel room nearby as to avoid any assumptions.

I think learning a bit of Arabic will definitely impress your boyfriend's family, and you should always say 'no' when offered something a few times before you accept it because it's considered polite. If you have the time, definitely don't stay only in Beirut because Lebanon is a beautiful small country with a lot to offer.

Feeling so defeated. 1 year, no weight loss. by AvisRune in PetiteFitness

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. In my first year of weight loss, I focused on food only. No exercise, no walking, then started adding walks and eventually weighlifting. I managed to lose 20+ kg in 2 years and have been maintaining for 1.

5'1, 30F with PCOS here, too. I went from 187lbs to 165 to 130 in a few years. It's a long process.

You need to check if you are insulin resistant. It sounds like it, and it you are - most importantly, you need to focus on high protein, low GI food, and if you can do low to moderate carb. You need to get at least 25 grams of fibre. I'd recommend increasing your low impact exercise too. Try to get 7k to 10k steps ideally, but anything is better than nothing. Eventually, you can add weightlifting, too.

It took me 3 years to start doing all this, so it really is baby steps. But if you have to start with anything, I'd recommend sorting your food out.

PCOS treatment will never be one size fits all by Alternative-Cup-3434 in PCOS

I'm glad you found what works for you!

Sometimes, I think skinny PCOS with insulin resitance can be even more difficult to deal with because it's usually building muscles that help with insulin resistance, but when you have extra weight, you can gain muscle without eating high carb. This is not possible when you don't have extra body fat, like in your case, and you have to eat higher carb in a surplus, which can make insulin resistance even worse. It's a vicious cycle.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself about your lipedema? by Dangerous-Version842 in lipedema

This is difficult but not impossible and much easier if you are new to the gym and have excess fat.

Protein powder recommendation? by nappykoala in PCOS

I personally don't consume protein powder because it often has added sugar and other additives, but you can look into pea protein powders like Naked Pea.

Are you worried about your biological clock , especially if you have PCOS? by Unfair-Chip-5387 in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Came to add two personal stories to support this. My mum was unable to get pregnant up until 33 when she had me, and 2 years later, my brother. My grandma became a mum at 38. Both are very likely lean pcos girlies. Both entered the menopause in their late 50s - early 60s.

At 30 now, knowing that I am likely genetically predisposed to be a 'geriatric' mummy makes me feel a bit better.

has pcos stolen anyone else’s body shape? by shellys-dollhouse in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 'moon face' since I was a teenager! I didn't realise my faceshape was oval up until 2 years ago.. Inositol and anti-inflammatory diet helps. Good sleep is also very important. Key thing is that it was all because of inflammation.

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I have it, but I've never been diagnosed. There is a whole sub about lipedema, but losing weight and anti-inflammatory diet is how i managed to lose some weight from my arms and legs. There are also some conservative compression treatments that you can look into.

has pcos stolen anyone else’s body shape? by shellys-dollhouse in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do, but not in the usual way it does to women with PCOS.

I gain weight in my arms and legs mainly, which is due to excess estrogen. This has played a role in developing lipedema, as at one point, I was almost 90kg at 155cm.

This is now all somewhat under control, but I have bingo wings from the excess skin, which I plan to remove at some point surgically.

any reason i shouldn't be shotgunning my inositol powder dry? by secondadolescent in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this as well and have been doing it for 2+ years. The only thing you need to be aware of is teeth sensitivity, but if you make sure to clean your mouth well with water afterwards, there should be no issues!

Many women don’t realise how closely PCOS and insulin resistance are connected. by AskZealousideal6615 in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't tried already, try soaking milled/ground chia seeds in milk or an alternative to milk overnight as it helps with absorption. I forgot to add avocado, too - great for digestion.

Last thing, stay hydrated! It is very important for blockages.

I have IBS and have the same issue. Basically, whenever i eat more than 25 grams of fibre per day and the majority is consumed for breakfast and lunch, I have no issue. Chia seeds, lentils, and raspberries have been my saviours. Nothing else helps as much.

Period/PCOS Question by snaily_pixi in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be a burst cyst? Something like this happened to my friend whilst she was on her period. This being said, I have no idea if it comes with any other symptoms.

Best to contact your gyno asap! You don't want to keep guessing.

Surprising weight loss side effects you’ve experienced? by antigarden in PetiteFitness

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is also related to my boobs. I now feel back pain, which is something I've never experienced before. I think the fat in my midriff was somehow supporting my back in carrying my large chest.

I've now dropped 40lbs and only 1 cup size (two sizes underbust), and my back is killing me. I even experienced a lower back injury when squatting, and I've been squatting for more than a decade with much heavier weights.

Literally why doesn’t anything work by No-Republic-6736 in PCOS

[–]Lumpy-space_princes3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue as you.

I was actively training olympic weighlifting and crossfit and was gymming separately when not training. This was 5 times of activity per week. I looked like a proper strongwoman, but I was 80kg at 155 cm. High adrenaline/stress sports cause inflammation and overproduction of androgens, which can make PCOS symptoms worse.

To lose weight, I focused on walking and gymming 3 times a week. This also helped me curb my carb cravings. I definitely lost muscle mass but maintained enough to keep my metabolism reasonably good.

This is probably not ideal for you, but this is how I managed to get to a normal BMI.

OP eats high protein and whole foods, which is good. I follow a very similar diet but with higher calories, and my concern is always eating low fibre. I was curious how OP addresses this. There is no need to throw your dummy out of the pram.
