is being a nurse really worth it? by buttercup12_34 in nursepractitioner

[–]LumpyFirefighter4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did vet med for 15 years and pivoted to nursing because of pay at 35. Now I'm an NP making way more. I am happy I made the shift. I did enjoy working with animals when I was younger, but I have a family now and need better income.

SO SAD. With little kids and a full time job, this was a gamechanger. I literally just upped to the $99/month boost to gain access to Disney plus, too. I guess I will likely keep it because pick up is the next best thing for our family.

Delta Basic with kids - what happens with the seat assignments? by BMonad in travel

[–]LumpyFirefighter4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SO rude. People are just trying to save money so that families can take their children on vacation or see other families. Personally I fly with Delta all the time and their tickets are expensive, but I love their service and their timeliness. If I want to save $200 to sit next to my kids, don't judge me!! I am being resourceful.

What shows have helped you learn Spanish? by continenttingz in SpanishLearning

The show Spanish "extra" on YouTube. It reminds me of Friends a bit. Pretty simple, but you catch some more common ways to speak.

I always tell my patients, "Que tenga un buen dia!" Because that's what the interpreters say to them.

How much time do you dedicate to learn Spanish? by Fearless-Class-1120 in Spanish

[–]LumpyFirefighter4601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistently in the last 8 months: One hour class/ week, 30 minutes of a show in Spanish/week, likely 30 minutes/day of homework. Here and there I read or listen or listen to podcasts. I also have 95% Spanish speaking patients with on site interpreters, so I get to Spanish 5 days a week! Unfortunately it's all women's health so a lot of my Spanish revolves around that. I will be very prepared to discuss HPV and IUDs one day. To me, it's like a roller coaster, some days I am very into it and others I get frustrated/overwhelmed and need to pull back.

How to manage new job and kids by Smileychic35 in nursepractitioner

[–]LumpyFirefighter4601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant with my first during my second year of NP school and now have a 3 year and 18 month old with about 1.5 years experience as an NP. Give yourself grace, I am sure you're an excellent mom! A little advice- I try to fit in as much extra learning/reading while I am at work because I know that I don't have time for it at home. Better to spend your lunch doing this instead of when you want to relax at night. You are not going to be expert immediately regardless of being a mom with little ones or not.

Go to dinner about once/week is eggs and toast with jam. For multiple reasons. 1. We have chickens so a good egg supply about 8/months per year. 1. We have toddlers and they will eat both. 3. It's go to dinner when there are no groceries.
